the more money that is spent on real props and plots to the extent that they become more important than the porn, you're in danger of catching limp syndrome.
There is nothing more sexy than a PornStar dressed up for the character and trying to act like that character and doing it badly because ultimately they are there to fuck not win an academy award.
Take a look at Killergram.com who do the cheesy lines and transparent plot lines like handyman comes to fix a leak or fill a crack...
I watch 24 because I like the plots and the action...I watch porn because I like Pornstars who dress like sluts and act like sluts...the 2 should remain mutually exclusive...

I watch movies for their fantasy aspect and not their reality. I want acting in my porn just as much as I do in any other type of movie that I watch. What I don't want to see are studios who invest money in making porn movies so that they look like non porn movies. A good example is "Pirates". Clearly using the appeal of "Pirates of the Carribean". In this case the acting is not sex related, but plot related. I'm reminded of movies from the golden age of porn where there was a plot, raunchy sex, and the acting was good to some cases amazing. What diffirentiates these with todays stuff is that they wanted to make a porn movie and not a mainstream one with hard sex included. If anyone thinks that he/she doesn't want acting in their porn then good luck if tomorrow all the girls stopped pretending that they are enjoying getting DP'Dd upside down by 2 guys for the third time that day.

How many porn movies have there been with real plots and anything substantial in them? Kris Kramsky did a couple of things that mixed hot sex scenes in with other stuff that was much better than your average porn movie, but other than that...
The Vivid & Wicked stuff that purports to have real plots is boring crap, in my opinion. Vignettes can often be fun - just set up a situation that leads fairly quickly to sex after some tease elements and I'm happy.
ALS Scan has done a number of scenes that I have really liked where the models just talked to the camera before doing a great masturbation scene. That worked well with girls, like Courtney Simpson, that had the confidence and wit to pull that off.

Porn that attempts to be "serious" is porn that is never screened on my monitor.
Give me cheesy every time!

I think it's fallacious to believe that a real plot would preclude good porn. Barbara Broadcast, Dracula Sucks, and Public Affairs (or was that Spirit of Seventy-Sex?) all had plots, thin though they became at times, but there was some damn nice sex, too.
All four logical possibilities are possibilites (no plot, lousy porn; good plot, lousy porn, etc.).
I like to think that sex is part of life, so why not have flicks that make it part of life, instead of it always being "No plot, please. We're only here for the sex."
Think also The Last Tango in Paris, The Incredible Lightness of Being (Lena Olin was very sexy!), Midnight Cowboy. Those were pretty close to hardcore porn (though I'd skip the theatre scene in Midnight Cowboy).
But "professional" is a subjective term. Those porn movies from the '70's I mentioned were professional by porn standards, IMHO.

I am a fan of those funny one liners, I like set ups like a girl's car being broken goes to a repair shop then the whole crew gets a little action, don't know why but I think it's funny and great for porn movies

REPLY TO #6 - Drooler :
A friend and I went to see Last Tango In Paris back in the day and were mightily disappointed at the lack of porn in it. Why it got an X rating I'll never know. We did enjoy sitting in back of 2 old ladies though!
Caligula would be a better example I think.

Little of any porn has great acting or interesting
plots however the potential exists to do it. The
question has always been, will the average viewer
buy it?

FWIW: I've heard that stories by Private (like "Robinson Crusoe" or "Cleopatra") are VERY popular, so yes, average viewer will buy it. It's more expensive, that's for sure and very few guys are doing it, but that's another story.
Personally I'm quite tired of all the same "meat on screen" and ANY variety is a good thing for me as long as it's not too violent or too disgusting.

This is why porn is jacked up now. They act out everything and don't care about what we think. No matter how much we complain about it, it is not going to change.
