Capn (0) Less brutal.

It is a hope rather than an expectation.

BadMrFrosty (0) I think the word "porn" in this poll could quite easily be replaced with "entertainment" and my view would be the same.

When you go to mainstream movie boards like IMDB or rotten tomatoes and see horror movies rated on the brutalness of their kill scenes or even worse, when you see a more intelligent psychological horror rated down because of its lack of in your face blood and gore, it's easy to see the way things are going.

The same in porn, 5 years ago some of the more "extreme" niches, were just that, niches where you would have a handful of sites providing that type of content. These days, things like fisting, gagging, rough sex / simulated rape, BDSM are all over the place. Even the large "mainstream" networks have sites dedicated to what used to be called extreme.

It seems like what was extreme for one generation becomes normal and mainstream for the next. I shudder to think what people will consider entertainment in 10 - 20 years time. There have been a lot of sci-fi books / movies that suggest that we will be entertained by live to the death combat. I don't think that seems too farfetched....

Denner (0) One choice here is somewhat scary - at least the second ...
As a middle aged guy I see a lot of our society/societies (US and Europe) getting more and more rough - and more and more ego-oriented - the old deal with a GOOD KARMA - and peace and love - seems to be moving out...(but it has been for some time, has it not?)

Sad - and I fear that could be the deal at porn too. So, again sadly - I voted the number two. Wish it is going to be different..

To the death combat?

Romans had it, but they didn't invent it. It is probably primeval.

I think that goes in cycles.

I am afraid brutality has always been in the base instincts.

That doesn't necessarily mean that we will be in the brutal phase of the cycle then.

We may be at/past the peak of it now....

I hope.

surferman (0) I voted more brutal, although I sincerely hope I am wrong and that a reversal of trends might begin. To get their "kicks" it seems as if everything has to be so much more extreme for people to be satisfied these days, and that seems to be the case with porn too.
What also seems to be the case is that none of us necessarily want that, and yet the minority who do seem to be the ones who end up calling the shots! Or am I out of touch with the majority.........

pat362 (0) Unless all of us are very different than most other people in the world then I can't see porn getting more brutal. Most of us have complained about some scene being to abusive to the performer that I can't believe we will pay for something even worse.

I do believe that porn will be more accessive but not through mainstream media. I think that rules guiding TV are too strict and in some wways not enough so. I think the push will be through the internet. As the technology to connect a computer to a TV(I know it exist) becomes more and more like a basic plug and play system like regular cable than we will see more porn on TV.

PinkPanther (0) I suspect that we'll see all the extremes represented:

a) we'll have amateur sites whose updates will be pics and vids of every woman that came in the door and signed their model consent form

b) we'll have glamour sites where not a single inch of the model is as they actually looks in real life

c) we'll have tons of self-shot material - it will be one of the most popular ways for young women to earn money to pay for college, which will cost $100K/semester in 20 years

d) we'll have sites like Brazzers that will advertise with plastic surgeons they are associated with - and the sites will compete as to how much body manipulation can be done

e) we'll have virtual web-cam/lap-dance shows, which will be tremendously popular - giving adult men one other reason to not ever leave their computers

f) there will be numbers of brutal porn sites that have roving ISP's and members will have forums devoted to finding the current ISP's for the day to have access - it will be kind of like the early days of raves - only nastier

g) porn site ripoffs will be rampant - the mobs that currently traffic in credit cards will have moved into porn to a massive degree

h) we'll have alliances of web sites that used to be unique that will band together to ward off porn piracy and will have their own Standards & Practices Acts specifying 1) treatment of models, 2) treatment of customers, 3) levels of brutality

Actually, I'm probably making predictions for 5 years from now. It's difficult to predict 20 years out.

graymane (Suspended) I would hope intellectural development, education, and just plain common sense would initiate dumping raw hardcore, particuliarly as it relates to B&D and the humiliation of women. I see a softer genre, broader acceptance, and certainly a media being treated as primetime material.

turboshaft (0) It'll get more brutal whether we want it to or not. :-O

Max Hardcore will become a sort of Lenny Bruce of porn--locked up for what is the future mainstream. And even though many thought his approach kind of sucked he paved the way...on a road made of tears and heartbreak (from his models).

And we'll be lucky if it takes twenty years to get there. More like ten.

BadMrFrosty (0) REPLY TO #6 - Capn :

If you believe what Freud had to say on the subject, violence is the one of the most basic and fundamental parts of human existence. It is the society in which we live which controls to what level those violent thoughts and desires are acceptable. As society becomes more and more accepting of violence be it in dramatized entertainment or sport, I think it is not a great leap to believe that society will become more violent in general. Which, again if you believe Freud, will lead to happier and more content human beings as we will not be suppressing our innermost desires as much as we do today. Make of that what you will.

lk2fireone (0) In my battery charger. I was reading an article today that said today's cybercriminals are now targeting non-conventional electronic appliances such as battery chargers and digital photo frames. So why can't we download porn onto such devices as well?

Wittyguy (0) Actually, I would expect porn to be less brutal because in 20 years the net will be more regulated and subject to more government intervention than today. Having said that, I wouldn't really know what to expect in terms of the varying types of content out there. I expect that the porn industry will grow and shrink with the times but it will always be there with something for everyone.
