Ha Ha! I have yet to write a review that didn't suddenly stop and pop up, "Must limit text to 1500 characters" the strange thing is, I have had several that say 12 characters left or 15 or even 2, but these still say I need to shorten it. I don't know if we need that many more characters, but a little more would be nice.

Lol, same here!
But I think some people don't want to read more than that.
But it would help to give more information of course.
And I too have had the same problem with spare characters. Usually I have like 10 characters left and need to shorten it until I have about 50 characters left. Kinda weird.

I usually dont surpass the 1500 characters, but every so often I do and I try to squeeze everything together rather then have a space between each topic of my review. So it couldnt hurt to add more room, so people have the freedom to do as they please.

Hey guys,
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I have looked into the problem mentioned, and think I have solved it. It seemed to be an issue where if you pasted something into the field larger than the allowed limit, it would give you the alert, then fail to update the 'characters left'. It should work as expected now.
Please keep an eye on this and if the problem persists, please do not hesitate to contact us.

When I intially voted this morning I wanted there to be a higher limit, but I changed my mind just now and thought I'd say why. I too have wanted to write more since I tend to use as much space as I'm allowed. While more would seem to be better, I actually think that wanting to go over the limit may be an indication that the review is getting too long winded. I have usually found that if I go back over the review I can easily edit out some things and still say everything I wanted to express. So, I think a limit is a good idea, although maybe it could be upped conservatively at first. If reviews get too long, I wonder if people won't read them.
Just my $0.02.

I love this poll, thanks for the opinions so far...
It's a tough tough call for us and we hate to take any freedom away. I think Snowdude makes the point and explains it well about why there's such a limit. We feel 1500 was reasonable enough to give a good clean crisp but not over-wordy review. By design, the reviews are intended to be simple and to the point.
However, we're always interested in how the community feels and this poll should help with that. I can't guarantee this poll will cause us to up the limit, but it's something we'll at least consider now and in the future.
Good stuff!

I agree with the 1500 limit. Otherwise the valuable stuff gets lost in the word forest. Being one who tends to be effusive with words, I find that word count limits are effective at getting me to reduce an overabundance of adjectives and adverbs...and to get straight to the point.

I think 1500 is enough to state your opinion. I rarely reach the end on some reviews :) I think they should be as much compact as possible. Off topic but forum and individual model reviews/comments could improve much PU.

It's a little restricting, but it forces me to refine some of my ideas. I wish more reviewers gave a more indept review of the content of sites.
too little is as bad as too much.

I need limitations. The current limit works for me. I start a review and end up beginning a new version of War & Peace. As a former editor, I think all of us need to fine tune our writing. I could go on and on, but that would show exactly what my problem is.....

I agree with your 2 cents. We need limits to force us to get to the point. I could go on and on, but that would miss the point, wouldn't it?

I was thinking maybe you could change how many lines you can use in pros and cons which is 10 to maybe 15. Sometimes I have to limit them and put them in the bottomline section.

That's something I haven't put much thought into actually.
I've changed it to 12 lines for now and will see how that works out. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the comments Jay. I was really on the fence here since I always have more to say, but I certainly don't think it should be unlimited. At least we get to have our say!

I wouldn't say it's too restrictive. I'm usually able to fit in all the information I'd like for a fairly detailed review.
Only thing is, I sometimes like to insert a line break to separate different things I'm talking about, and sometimes find my self having to take these out.

I'm like the others who write too much and then have to shorten it. The 1500 limit's OK with me, though.
It forces you to provide the essentials with concision, and frankly, my own reviews are in my opinion often pretty damn long. People don't like reading long-winded crap.
Fuck I've edited this now, too. It's like, Strunk & White meets Tits & Ass.

I think the 1500 is just barely enough. It requires me to make my reviews more concise but it can be quite difficult. I have a tendency to ramble at times, so the limit forces me to get to the point quickly - there have been occasions that I've had to leave out details though.
