I rarely go to bars. Just my luck to go to a gay bar. What bars have dancing? I think you must mean a night club, and it's been like 35+ years since I was in a night club (alcoholic drinks + a dance area). As you might have guessed, I rarely went to night clubs. Lol.
Never been in a gay bar or gay night club.

I've been to gay bars in my home city in some occasions just for a drink with some friends (they are just bars like all the rest, with music and alcohol and all) and I've been approach by some guy once or twice. I think the best strategy is to be polite but direct: "thank you very much, I am flattered, but I am not interested, thanks". And that's that.

I stay away from gay bars. I don't qualify as a patron.

I wouldn't spend long enough in there to be approached.

I actually walked into a gay bar by accident with some friends a number of years ago (the place had recently changed owners and its "theme" unknown to us). We looked around and one of my friends commented that it looked like lonely guys night out. We then noticed the gay posters and figured it out. However, we did finish our beers before leaving ... a man has to have his priorities.

It's not uncommon to make this mistake -- especially if you're in a new town looking for a little action. The idea for this poll came to me because it happened once just like it's presented.
It was a normal-like bar, drinks and music ...and (yes) dancing.
Just like your boy-girl in mixed surroundings, a dance many times gets your foot in the door -- so to speak.

I am not really into the bar scene, if it were to happen though I would be gracious, but explain that I was mistaken about the establishment and leave.

The local pub near where I used to work was run by a gay couple and although it was not officially a gay bar as such, most of the normal patrons were gay. I used to go there quite a lot with friends from work for a lunchtime or after work drink. On many occasions both there and in "normal" clubs I have been approached by guys. As I am completely comfortable with my (hetro) sexuality I treat them no differently than the women who approach me that I am not attracted to, politely say I'm not interested but maybe have a quick chat. I certainly wouldn't up and leave a place because of it, Im not afraid that I will turn gay just by being around gay people :)

I think we may be talking about two different kind of "gay bars" here: one that is just like a regular bar, with the difference that it "gay-friendly" and is frequented by more gay than heterosexual people, and another type which is more like a gay-sex-encounter kind of bar. Maybe the first type is more common in Europe than in the US, I don't know. In Madrid or Lisbon, for example, you can find both type of gay bars.
I think I wouldn't feel confortable in the second kind of bar, and I would probably leave it quickly enough; but in the first type of gay bar you can just hang around just like in any other bar, so I wouldn't have any problem staying for a drink or two.
