Variable.
It is never anywhere near what they claim it to be.
Up to 16 Megabytes per second.
They may as well claim up to 50, because the highest I have ever seen is just under 8 once.
Drop outs of connection in the early evening are a pain too.
When it is behaving itself on average I get just over 5 megabytes per second.

I voted it varies because in different locations I have different connections ranging from 4 mbit wifi in my house to 100mbit fibre connection in my flat. You guys above mean megabyte or megabit? Very big difference :)

Mine's "fast," but when the other side of things isn't, not.

I could pay for even faster, but I'm patient and already download more porn than I could ever realistically watch.

Many ISP accounts here in the UK are capped lately. Mine is 8mbps with a cap of 80gb, that I often come close to.
They're upgrading to fibre and I just got offered 40mbps for a similar price, but with a 40gb cap. Missing the point...

My speed is officially 30 Mbps but this is meaningless because each site varies when it comes to speed.

I recently upgraded from 150-160 KB/s to 620-630 KB/s. But that's still a snail's pace compared to what you other guys are reporting.

I find my 8 meg connection quite fast enough, I already download stuff quicker than i have the time to view it so don't really want to move to a new faster package in case i lose my unlimited downloads.

I've cable internet since day one so no way to be certain that mine is the fastest possible but it's really impressive to see how quickly I can surf and download at the same time.

The whole thing about internet speed confounds me. My internet speed used to test at faster than T1, but then my download speed never was faster than 525 kbs/sec. I got Comcast out and added their phone service, got a new modem. Now my internet speed tests as slower than before, but my downloading is at 2.5 mb/sec. But now I have no phone signal - you gotta love Comcast!

I rated mine very fast because the shithead cable company I have internet service through keeps giving us "free" speed upgrades while instituting monthly download limits/data transfer. My downloads average between 2 and 3 mb/s. Fast enough to have downloaded exactly 1.2 TB of content in January 2011. It seemed to shock the cable techs as much as make them mad. The older tech asked "where in the hell you putting it all at?" He was under the impression that external hard drives were 500 GB at most.

Good thread and fine to get some info about other PUs - almost worldwide.
Not too heavy here - just 8/1 Mbit - but it's ok for speed in general - AND BTW: Saw that Drooler reply:
"Mine's "fast," but when the other side of things isn't, not."
Thought the same thing: Most places I'll get a download speed of 0,7-0,9 Mbit/sek - so what's the point in upgrading and paying for a 30 or 50 Mbit???

Pretty fast, but of course never fast enough. I'm satisfied with my current speed, though.
