I guess it varies according to the review. Reviews are by nature subjective, and if a site really works for somebody, it's good to see them enthuse about it. OTOH, if the review is little more than 'this is the best site ever!!!!!!!!!!' that doesn't really help the site at all.

People giving 100 or 50 to a site are not very convincing but if enthusiastic means that they write a lot about a site and are eager to answer related questions, then it helps. There must be something to a site that has very dedicated fans.

Varies by case. I decide only after a number of reviews and after I get to see what the site has available. So any views both positive or negative help to complete the whole picture.

it varies really, what excites another, might be lame or crap to another, so its useful when there are several reviews to compare them to.

It's a case by case situation for me. If a review has a score in the high 90's then there better be a lot of info to corroborate that score. If there isn't then I assume it's a BS review or a huge fan incapable of offering an impartial review.

REPLY TO #2 - RustyJ :
I recently gave a site a 50 score and that's only because you can't give a lower score. Mind you I got burned with that one but that's all right because my review and others may hurt this company in the long run. At least I hope it does because the alternative is that other people will also get burned.

I usually discard reviews that are over the top 100/100 ratings and has all positives/no negatives

Varies, I try not to put too much weight in the scores since I think the scores go into too many factors, like how we perceive points. I had used this example before, there's a bigger difference in 80 and 91 than 50 and 61 to me.
I heard a musician talking about how fans of music were either "haters" or "biased". I thought he made a good point that "everything can't be mediocre, some have to be great and some poor or we wouldn't have anything to define mediocre by"

Sometimes they remind me why I like the site, other times they remind me why I didn't give them a second though

It's a bit mysterious to me. I wouldn't know for sure if a fan was really OVERLY enthusiastic until I joined the site and found out myself what all the gushing praise was about.
Sometimes people here (and probably me sometimes, too) see something that just gets their hormones running at peak and it gets spewed at the PU Community. Would it work the same for other members? For some, maybe. For others, not.
I remember when I posted a comment about the ATK Galleria going to 3000px photos. To me, that was great news. But I don't think I influenced anyone very much.

When the poll says "Overly enthusiastic", I assume it refers to the reviews that have had no real content - or acknowledged any "cons" in the site - just been "Wow! This is the greatest site of all time! It's fantastic! I love it! Everyone should join!"
Those kind of reviews turn me off and make less likely to join a site.

I have scored 2 or 3 sites with a 50 because the sites are (were?) total crap with absolutely nothing of any substance. One of them was a solo site for Angelica Costello, aka VENUS, that had hardly any Venus material.
It took me 15 minutes to browse the entire site and there was nothing, nada, zilch that I could download.
So when I see a 50 from someone else, that tells me a lot.
On the other hand, as for 100's, I really don't think a score of 100 is possible. 21Sextury is close to 100 in my opinion, but I'm not keen about the navigation and have a few issues with the search function. DDF Prod is also close to a 100, but it has issues with the update process and with a few broken links.
Bottom line, if I see a 100, I'm very skeptical. When I see a 50, I usually believe it but, like a car wreck on the highway, I still want to check it out.

A site's score is often a guesstimate of how much a reviewer likes a site. Or it could be a more objective rating of the site's contents: quality, quantity, ease of use, plus price.
I'm more interested in the details and personal opinions of the site than in the exact score.
But also, whether I join a site depends on whether I think I will enjoy the site contents: there are many sites that get a high score that I won't join because the contents are not to my taste.

I don't really put much weight on "over-enthusiastic" reviews or testimonials. I generally decide for myself if a site looks hot...or not. If it looks like the raves don't match the content I just consider them to be shilling for the site.
