Horses for courses.
I like them both.
Desktops are usually more powerful, laptops more versatile.

Much prefer the desktop: better monitor, better keyboard, less expensive (although notebook prices have dropped way down these last few years). But for the same money, you get much more with the desktop. The advantage of a notebook is portability. If you don't need portability, the desktop is the way to go.

Got three laptops a few years ago and haven't used a desktop since. I have one hooked up to my stereo system to play music and another takes up very little space on my desk. My wife has her laptop which moves from place to place in the house and the desktops gather dust in the storage room.

I've never owned a laptop so I'm not really able to judge the differences between laptop and a desktop except for the obvious portability of the laptop and significan ndifference in overall size. I think lk2fireone said all that there is to say on the advantages of a desktop. I'll only add that it's a lot easier to upgrade a desktop and therefore you're able to keep that computer for a much longer time.

Desktop for sure...
Only used laps in work/travel situations - provided by the company.
Now retired - could not dream of using laptop for my daily pornbrowsing - or anything else about pc at home...considering buying yet another desktop.....two desktops, two screens....wild...browsing the stock market or maybe watching Jimi Hendrix or Led Zepelin on one and porn on the second - or visa/versa - it'll surely - I hope - blow my mind...LOL

Used to have both, but couldn't be bothered swapping files and emails etc around when I needed to work elsewhere. But when working from home (most of the time) I use it with a mouse, keyboard and monitor attached, so it's pretty desktop-ish.

I download exclusively on my PC since it's a wired connection to my modem. That makes it faster and more stable (I think). I download onto an external, portable drive. Once it's on the drive I watch porn maybe 30% on the PC and 70% on a laptop. I just got an IPad, but since there is no way to plug in a drive, it'll remain porn-free. Thanks, Mr. Jobs. Thanks so fucking much...

Ditto otoh.
I also use my laptop (with a 17" screen) as my desktop alternative. I plug in my large monitor when I'm near it and a regular mouse and it's good to go.

Yep, it seems to work - although because I'm at the desk more often than not, with the 22" screen, I opted for a 13" - I find 17" very unwieldy! (Insert random penis size gag here...)
Oh, and re Cap'n's comment about desktops being more powerful... true, but gladly nowadays, for most folk (serious gamers and the like aside) pretty much any computer you buy is easily enough for whatever you want to do with it.

I like my desktop better, for it has a widescreen monitor and is also in HD.
