Usually yes, I prefer landscape to portrait and tend to view them mostly. On the other hand, if the gallery view has square thumbnails, cropping them in one direction only is ok.

I say yes since a thumbnail doesn't tell you its been cropped and if you making a judgement off the thumbnail that could easily discourage you.

I've been really incensed in the past when I thought the thumbnail represented the photo, then found out by paying the site for the content that the model was much smaller in the picture before the cropping.
It's a simple concept: Show us what we're really paying for. (And save on your own time/money continuum by not bothering with cropping.)

I don't mind, so long as there is a good idea of what you are getting.

A cropped thumbnail means wasting time to see what the picture REALLY is. Sometimes the picture is so much better than its cropped image, but you have to look to find out.

Yes, of course. Thankfully, I really haven't run into many sites where they aren't.

I'm leaning between "Yes" and "Undecided". Can anyone give me examples where sites display cropped thumbnails?

Some site designs dictate square thumbnails so they crop them. That's generally fine with me - I don't feel strongly enough about it to complain.

I'm with otoh, not wild about crops, but not a high priority in my decision making.
