It depends on the definition of closed down. If you mean 'stopped updating' then yes, several times, if you mean the website is literally taken off line, then no, I don't think so. Most sites generally seem to still allow members to join even if they're rotating content or not even updating at all.

+1 for what Marcus said. I have no concerns getting a site membership to a site that isn't updating. I obviously won't rejoin that site though.

I don't think so and I don't even think that I was on one that stopped updating during my membership but I have joined some sites that were dead when it comes to new content. I just knew that prior to joining and was only doing so to get access at their past stuff.

I've never had this happen to me at a paysite, although I'm sure it happens most times a site closes. Often they still allow existing members to log in even if new sign-ups are not allowed. I definitely joined plenty of sites that are not updating, many in varying states of disarray, and unfortunately some that were completely empty (I did get my money back). I've also been allowed back in a few that were officially closed for new memberships, which was really nice! While not a paid membership, I did have a free membership at the amateur site picland.to when that closed. They handled the closing very badly. No one including the thousands of amateurs who uploaded their pics had any notice of the upcoming closure. They just deleted everyone's pics and started forwarding their domain to another site. Lots of people lost their only copies of their personal pics, but there was nothing anyone could do.

Yes it happened to me once back in 2010. I took a 1 year's membership to the old G18 Spot Girls 18 sites because the monthly membership was expensive at $39.95 so the annual membership appeared a good deal at $99.00. Unfortunately the site disappeared offline with about 5 months still to run. I wasn't that bothered about it as I'd already downloaded everything I wanted from the site and in a way feel a kind of sense of satisfaction in having their photo archive stashed away on a hard drive which is no longer online.

I once rejoined a site that had closed its access but not its subscription sales.
Once joined a site that shut down for two weeks with no forewarning or explanation and came back on for the final week of my (final) subscription. (They'd spent those two weeks reducing the quality of their content.)
I once got kicked off a site for my access having been sharing by someone apparently working at the billing company, which screwed over the sites, too.
I've rejoined sites that defined "update" simply as "change the dates." I gave 'em hell at PU.
And I've seen content updates stop permanently in the middle of a subscription at a variety of sites over the years.
One thing I've learned is not to say, "I've seen it all." Another is to stop and unearth the unexamined assumptions I'm making when I'm considering a subscription.

I forgot the site's name but it was similar to VideoBox and Videosz ... "American Vice" (maybe???). Squirrel could help because he was a member at the time as well. One moment the site was there, next moment it was gone with apologies by the owner who was immensely likeable and involved with his members. I felt sorrier for him than I did for myself even though I had still five months to go on a yearly membership.
