You dont have to ask about this offcourse CC. I know personally few webmasters and they really dont want people to pay by cheque. As cheque payment mean bounce payment in 2 weeks time

It's cc all the way. I've never had a single problem with using my cc to purchase stuff on the net.

Oh come on, guys!!! How else do you pay for on-line porn?! You can't send them a money order!!
You know what, I am going to submit another poll... these questions are starting to drive me up the wall!!

I use a credit card, but for protection, I use a card where I've asked the credit card issuer to set a very low credit limit ($80.00) and I monitor all activity daily and on line. That way I can easily charge the going price for a site but if the number is compromised within the site or the biller, I'll know immediately as will the credit card issuer who will block any excessive sudden use. I pay each charge as it appears on the account so the running balance is usually zero.
This technique has nabbed two "unscrupulous" sites that rebilled after I cancelled a subscription (it was not ccBill, by the way) and one case where an attempt was thwarted to use the card account to pay for an auto repair in St. Louis (I live in LA).
The added benefit is that online porn is the only purchase I make with that card so the statements give me both a running history of activity and the 800 number to call if a problem arises.

Agree with PK - let's find some better polls.
Right now some of the more popular sites are getting more and more expensive - because other sites are charging more. That could be an issue for all of us.
I remember that quite a few PUs had a lot to say against high-price sites half a year ago or so. Let us bring that up again....

It's definitely credit card all the way. The more interesting question to me would be what type of credit card since I wonder how many use pre-paid cards rather than a personal card or check card.

propably due to the low dollar, if who runs the site is not american they would need to make site more expensive to get same income.. I'm with a company exporting to the US and we can certainly feel the hurt of the low dollar, si I'd imagine webmasters can too.
Looking at the bright site, porn membership has never been cheaper to buy from europe, since it's all charged in dollars :-)

Most billing companies no longer accept the anonymous pre-paid credit cards any longer, for obvious reasons.

I'll tell you that that being American, I don't appreciate at all what some of these companies are doing, especially since they gear all their sites toward the American consumer (such as naming Olga "Betty"), and I am not patronizing the sites that are doing this.

Wow, and can you tell which processors were involved (it is processor which is of interest here)?

I'm sure it isn't.. but for a large part it may well be.
I think most the sites billing in euros are just calculating from the days dollar ratio.. So if site price is $29.95 one day it would cost 22Euros.. then next day if dollar drops it would cost 20Euros.

That would be an interesting topic for next poll.
Myself, I allways see it as a big plus if a site is ccbill caus i never had any problems with them, wheras with others I did experience some double billing and shady shit that was a pain to sort out :(

Sorry, but no I can't remember. It was three or four years ago and they both occurred within two months of each other. Both were "flaky" sites that were trash and the processors had strange names. I'm sure I'd recognize the names if they popped up again so if they do I'll say something.

Please shout LOUDLY if you recognize them (maybe in site comments?). It's really important to know who's who in this business.

You're right; will you submit it yourself or want me to do it? (to fit it into current poll system, I'll probably make it something like "Which CC processor do you think is the WORST?")
> Myself, I allways see it as a big plus if a site is ccbill caus i never had any problems with them

Never had problems with CCBill - when I realize a site use CCBill, I feel more secure.
In contrast to SegPay for one - just had an irritating fuckup with them. When it takes several e-mails and a long wait to get what you just payed for and wanted to get into here and now, it's something that makes me hesitate to join a site that uses these guys...

I submited one titled "How much does the CC processor affect your decision to join a site ?"
But think it would be great if you submited yours too, you might have a better angle on it with "the WORST" processor.

As an aside regarding your poll submission ...
We're going to accept it with a little tweaking. However, for the record (and so they don't think we're dissing them) we'll note that both Denner and roseman submitted similar questions (that were not approved at the time) over the last few months.

SegPay!
Thanks Denner for bringing that name up. It was one of the two that I had cancellation issues with back in 2003 or 2004. I remember them because of the strange name that still makes no sense to me.
asmith12 - that was one of the two. I haven't seen the name come up at all recently. Must be either because I look only at good sites these days (compared to 2003 before I found TBP), because they've defrauded themselves out of business or because I've just not bumped into them again.
Anyway one down, one to go.

:-). Thanks a lot, it will help.
Question to admins: given this discussion, don't you think it is a good idea to have separate (from sites) rating/comments of credit card processors? Might be difficult to implement, but should be very useful for this community. Or at least to make another type of "rating" poll (with ratings) and make the first such poll about credit card processors?
