^I will definetely go see the Avengers but I'm not sure about Dark Shadows. I wasn't a big fan of the original per say but this version appears to be more spoof than actual homage and I'm not sure I'll bother watching this on the big screen. Long live the Brown Coats.

I wasn't a fan of the original Dark Shadows series either.
But I've really enjoyed several movies by Tim Burton. His movies often have a wonderful visual experience. And I often enjoy his offbeat humor.

Alice in Wonderland, Beetlejuice, and Batman Returns were some of his movies I liked.

^I'm a huge Tim Burton fan. Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite Tim Burton Movie. There's also Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Of course he can make major stinkers like Planet of the Apes. I don't know under which banner Dark Shadow will fall but the first trailer I saw gave me serious misgivings that it will be something that I like. Long live the Brown Coats.

Timeline on future Marvel comic book movies:

There's no word yet on when we can expect "The Avengers 2," but "Iron Man 3" is slated for release less than a year from now on May 3, 2013. "Thor 2" will follow on November 15, 2013, and "Captain America 2" is scheduled for April 4, 2014.

^I guess we can safely say that the next few years will be filled with sequels and/or prequels. That's not a bad thing per say but I kind of miss the days when there were original movies getting released on a regular basis. Long live the Brown Coats.

AP NewsBreak: Ubisoft assembling Avengers for game

By DERRIK J. LANG

Associated Press – 7 mins ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Now that they've saved the world on film, "The Avengers" are teaming up for a motion-control video game.

Ubisoft Entertainment announced a partnership Thursday with Marvel Entertainment to create a game based on the popular Marvel superhero posse. The game will be titled "Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" and will be released for both the upcoming Wii U console from Nintendo Co. and the camera-based Kinect system for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft Corp.

"The idea that we're making a motion-control version of 'The Avengers' is a unique proposition if you compare that to superhero games of the past," said Tony Key, Ubisoft's vice president of sales and marketing, in making the announcement to The Associated Press. "This is the perfect type of game for that because these characters are very action oriented. They're always fighting and throwing things."

"Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" will focus on such characters as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk fending off an invasion of genetically altered Skrull aliens. The title will feature more than 20 characters from the Marvel universe and would be based on the "Secret Invasion" comic series, not the recent film.

No release date was announced, but Key said the disc-based title is expected to launch after Nintendo debuts the Wii U later this year. The successor to Nintnedo's Wii will feature high-definition graphics, increased online capabilities and a touch-pad controller. He said more details about the game would be unveiled at next month's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The game will be the latest addition to Ubisoft's motion-control arsenal. Previous titles released by the Canadian publisher that rely on gesture-based devices include the artsy shooter "Child of Eden," street brawler "Fighters Uncaged," superhero dueler "PowerUp Heroes," the "Your Shape" fitness franchise and top-selling "Just Dance" series.

"Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" will mark the first time that the "Assassin's Creed" publisher has developed a game based on a franchise from Marvel, which was purchased in 2009 by The Walt Disney Co. The developers previously worked with "Avatar" director James Cameron to craft a third-person 3-D action-adventure game set on the planet Pandora.

Sega created each of the games pegged to the films of "The Avengers" forerunners, including last year's "Thor: God of Thunder" and "Captain America: Super Soldier," but there was no console game released this year alongside director Joss Whedon's blockbuster "The Avengers," just the mobile game "Marvel's The Avengers" and Facebook title "Marvel: Avengers Alliance."

Fans freaked out last year over unofficial footage and concept art posted online of a first-person "Avengers" game that was reportedly in development by THQ Inc. The footage of Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America and Thor battling the infamous Skrull was yanked by Marvel from YouTube. A representative for Marvel declined to be interviewed for this story.

Traditionally, games based on Marvel movies have been released around the same time as their super-powered counterparts to benefit from parallel buzz. The open-world action-adventure title "The Amazing Spider-Man" from Activision Inc. is set for release June 26, ahead of director Marc Webb's film of the same name on July 3.

The big-screen adaptation of "The Avengers" starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye has smashed box office records, earning $207.4 million domestically in its opening weekend.

"For us, that obviously raises the brand itself to an even higher level, and that's good for our video game because we have an opportunity to reach a broader audience than just the guys who love comic book characters," said Key, who added that "Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" would be family friendly despite the game's focus on fighting.

Marvel's superheroes have been a dominant presence throughout the history of games. They most recently assembled for the Capcom brawler "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3" and the Activision Inc. role-playing sequel "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2." Gazillion Entertainment is currently developing a free-to-play online game featuring them called "Marvel Heroes."

I know I don't usually join in the discussions here but caught a sneak-peek on HDNet this weekend and thought I'd mention the movie.

God Bless America
Written and Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait

It tells a tale of an every-day kind of guy who's disgusted with what's become "normal" behavior here in America. When he's told he's got a brain tumor he decides on taking some drastic steps.

Sortta reminded me of "Falling Down" ... but not too much.

The HDNet preview was touted as "before it hits theaters" but honestly, I doubt this movie will see the inside of many theaters. Still, I suspect it may become a bit of cult classic. A black comedy, to be sure. Funny in spots and very thought provoking in others.

It's not available at NetFlix yet but I think Amazon has it available for rental.

Oh, one last thing ... Don't let the title fool ya. It's not a flag-waving kind of movie as it takes an unflentching look at some of the selfish behaviors we all see every day. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

He was on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me a few days ago, and is quite, surprisingly, funny (I always thought of him as sort of the smash a watermellon type of comedian), I must say it sounds like an interesting movie, somewhat in the vein of Falling Down. Bobcat Goldthwait - I'm not a big fan, but one day I was out of town with a friend who had on the Comedy Channel on the hotel TV. Goldthwait was on and blew me the fuck away. He had me roaring with some of the most savagely-pointed comedy this side of George Carlin. When he's in the zone, he can be amazing.

I finally saw the Avengers and the movie is simply amazing.
I can't think of anything that they could have done better. The action sequences are all well done with not too many high speed kinetic movces that are unrecognizable on screen, the effects are amazing, the acting from all players is top notch, there is a very gooid mix of action and comedy, the pacing is excellent because there wasn't a single time where I looked at my watch and that's saying a lot from a movie that is nearly 2:30 long.

The only thing that might be a negative is that it's going to be really hard to top this one so a sequel is maybe doomed to failure simply because of this excelent movie.
The other problem might be in the upcoming stand alone sequels that we know are coming like Captain America 2, Iron Man 3and Thor 2. Where can they now go when they have this movie too look up to? Long live the Brown Coats.

I saw Battleship and I enjoyed it. This is the closest any director has come to shoot a Micheal Bay movie. The pro military, the slow motion shots, the cute girl that has almost no screen time and yet is a key element of the story, the great effects, the great action sequences.

If movies weren't so expensive then I would recommend you see this on the big screen because it's an action filled movie with a lot of great sequences but ticket prices are very high so you can probably wait until its released on DVD/Blu-Ray which should probably be sometime before December anyway. Long live the Brown Coats.

I hope so too, as I loved World's Greatest Dad, his delightfully offensive 2009 comedy. It's a sort of barometer of my tastes in the comedy genre--if a film pisses off and offends viewers the way that one did, I might just enjoy it.

On a side note, I recently saw Bobcat on Real Time with Bill Maher (along with Arsenio Hall of all people) promoting his newest film and I barely recognized him--not quite the manic standup comedian many fans probably know him as. Comic-Con 2012: Marvel announces four new films at panel

By Eric Pfeiffer | Movie Talk – 13 hours ago

In a surprise move that wowed the fans in attendance, Marvel Studios officially announced four new films in development during their Saturday panel at Comic Con.

Producer Kevin Feige formally set the titles and release dates for sequels "Thor: The Dark World," (November 8, 2013) and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," debuting on April 4, 2014. In addition, Feige announced that brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will helm the "Captain America" sequel.

Marvel also confirmed speculation that they are developing the cosmic superhero franchise "Guardians of the Galaxy," which is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014.

But the announcement that received the biggest reaction from the crowd was test footage of the forthcoming "Ant Man" from director Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead").

"I've always thought there was a great film to make out of that," Wright told the cheering crowd. "And one that would look better on the screen than in the page."

During the clip of test footage, the film's hero who, can change his size at will, is hiding inside a tiny air duct while two security guards stand in a long hallway.

Ant Man, no more than a few inches in stature, then launches an attack on the guards, morphing into full human size to deliver a punishing kick before shrinking in an instant to literally ride on top of one of the guard's guns.

Even in rough cut form, the footage wowed the audience and seemed to quiet speculation as to whether the character could succeed on the big screen.

"Ant Man will kick your ass one inch at a time," Wright quipped.

^The only movie that I know I won't watch is Ant man. I don't care if it wowed the entire crowd at Comic-Con or anywhere else for that metter because I already know that the vast majority of the movie will be all green screen CGI and I'm frankly getting tired of those types of movies.

Not too mention that the idea of a super hero who has the abilty to reduce is size to that of an ant or back again does absolutely nothing for me. On the plus side. I will save 13$ by missing this one. Long live the Brown Coats.

In the trailer for the upcoming The Bourne Legacy, they show, apart from the explosions and shootouts, a chase scene where the hero is riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

Don't they realize that's illegal in California?

Any idea if they used the same director as in Bourne II and III? The one with the shaky camera? "The Bourne Identity" was the best movie in its genre we ever watched, the sequels were major disappointments because of the poor (to us) camera work.

The director for all the Bourne movies was Doug Liman but he isn't the one doing this most recent version. That's why they hired Jeremy Renner instead of Matt damon. Matt made it clear that he would only comeback if Doug Liman was the director.

I don't know if the new Bourne movie will be any good. The trailer looks interesting but these days that doesn't mean much. Long live the Brown Coats.

I hate to disagree, Pat, but the director for the Bourne Identity was Doug Liman. The others were directed by someone else, (Paul Greengrass in both?) All I know is that he majors in handheld cameras, for more immediacy, and I dislike him for it. The follow-ups were a real let down for me.

Doug Liman was the director of the first Bourne movie:
The Bourne Identity

But Paul Greengrass was the director of Bourne Parts 2 and 3:
The Bourne Supremacy
The Bourne Ultimatum

Paul Greengrass is famous for his shaky camera, that makes me wonder if he's sometimes drunk when he watches his films.

I like films where I can follow the action, instead of the herky-jerky movements that has become popular today.

Edit: I posted this, before I read messmer's reply.

I believe he believes shaky cameras and handhelds "immerse" the viewer in the action more. I'm no fan, especially in the theatre I start to get sea sick. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.

Thanks for the moral support because many people appeared to like Greengrass' style. Let's hope he is not directing Bourne IV!

I saw "Savages" this week. I agree with reviewers that are calling it Oliver Stone's first must-see in years. It's WAY over the top. I read it as Oliver Stone's "fuck you, you young whippersnapper!" to Quentin Tarantino. There are amazing scary funny performances by Benecio Del Torro & Salma Hayek as the lead bad guys. And Stone gets to work out his love of mixed media in a way that fits the story with lots of web-cam footage, etc.

Thanks for correcting my error on the Bourne movies. I was so sure that it was the same guy because Matt Damon had mentioned not wanting to work with anyone else.

Greengrass is definetly not directing the latest Bourne movie but we aren't out of the woods yet because the guy directing it is mostly known as a writer so that type of career doesn't always translate well into directing. Long live the Brown Coats.

Sorry I missed that the first time around, Pat. You had mentioned already that Matt Damon would only work with Doug Liman but somehow I missed that. After seeing the two sequels, I don't blame him!

Sad day for the movies. Tony Scott is dead.

================
================

August 19, 2012

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tony Scott, director of such Hollywood blockbusters as "Top Gun," ''Days of Thunder" and "Beverly Hills Cop II," died Sunday after jumping from a Los Angeles County bridge, authorities said.

The 68-year-old Scott's death was being investigated as a suicide, Los Angeles County Coroner's Lt. Joe Bale said.

Several people called 911 around 12:35 p.m. to report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor, according to Los Angeles police Lt. Tim Nordquist.

A dive team with Los Angeles Port Police pulled the body from the murky water several hours later, Nordquist said. Scott's body was taken to a dock in Wilmington and turned over to the county coroner's office.

One lane of the eastbound side of the bridge was closed to traffic during the investigation. Cargo vessels moved at reduced speeds through the east side of the port's main channel during the search, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Investigators found a note in Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on the bridge, according to the Los Angeles Times. That note listed contact information. A suicide note was later found at his office.

The British-born Scott, who lived in Beverly Hills, was producer and director Ridley Scott's brother.

The two brothers ran Scott Free Productions and were working jointly on a film called "Killing Lincoln," based on the best seller by Bill O'Reilly. Their company produced the CBS dramas "NUMB3RS" and "The Good Wife" as well as a 2011 documentary about the Battle of Gettysburg for the History Channel. Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" was a summer blockbuster.

"Top Gun," starring Tom Cruise, was one of the highest-grossing films of 1986. Scott teamed with Cruise again four years later on the hit "Days of Thunder."

Scott frequently worked with Denzel Washington, most recently on the runaway train drama "Unstoppable." The pair collaborated on four other films: "Crimson Tide," ''Man on Fire," Deja Vu," and "The Taking of Pelham 123."

In a tweet Sunday, director Ron Howard said, "No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day."

Other Scott films include "True Romance," written by Quentin Tarantino, "The Fan," with Robert De Niro, and "Enemy of the State," starring Will Smith.

Scott was married to actress Donna Scott, who appeared in several of her husband's films. They have twin sons.

Completed in 1963, the 6,060-foot Vincent Thomas Bridge links rises 185 feet at its highest point above the Los Angeles Harbor. Many have taken their lives by jumping from the span.

Yeah, that was a bit of a shock. I wasn't a huge fan, but he definitely made some popular culture classics.

Plus I'd have totally paid to see Top Gun 2. Maybe his brother will finish it. Maybe Goose could come back as a zombie, or A.I. like KITT in Knight Rider. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Like Toadsith, not a huge fan of his work, but sorry to hear. Top Gun still ranks as the best, most unintentionally homoerotic films of all time (according to one of my gay buddies), so I guess I will always remember him for that. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.

For something different. I saw ParaNorman and I loved it. The movie is quite funny and the claymation is top notch. I think the movie may have a hard time at the box office because it may have been badly advertised. I think that even if it doesn't make as much money in theateers then it will make it's money back with dvd and Bluray. Long live the Brown Coats.

World's Greatest Dad

I had a evening of fantastic but ultimately flawed movies which I thank this thread for. Both I thoroughly enjoyed but for me fell down in certain area's which I wont go into here as I'm afraid I would bore you.

But if you were a fan of those then I whole heartedly recommend:

Dead Set

and

Fifteen Million Merits (Part of Black Mirror)

Both tackle some of the same ideas as Bobcat Goldthwait's films but I feel do so in a more subtle and refined manor.

If like me you think the world is dumbing itself down to the level of utter retardation these two things are biblical in their insight. The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I might see ParaNorman.

I saw Coraline a few years back. Enjoyed it, and even bought the DVD.

But my tastes are not representative of the mainstream. A lot of blockbusters leave me cold, and how I like a movie has no relation to its commercial success.

^I've never really seen Coraline so I can't tell you how it matches to ParaNorman but it's definetely on my list of movies that I will see sometime this year.

I didn't know that I would enjoy ParaNorman as much as I did. There are some really funny moments in them. Long live the Brown Coats.

Atlas Shrugged Part 2 will be out in another month

Not a single cast member from Part 1 was carried over to the second installment. Is Lehman Brothers making movies now? unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

Chris Butler, the co-director and writer of ParaNorman, also worked on Coraline.

Coraline was based on a book by Neil Gaiman.

Coraline is a modern-day cartoon, mixing fantasy, weirdness, plot and a bunch of other elements. I thought it could have come from Tim Burton, the movie just seems to have his special brand of weird.

I also thought that when I heard that Coralinet would be a claymation movie but alas it isn't. mind you that may not be a bad thing. I don't want to bash Burton because he has produced some really great movies but the last movie that I really liked from him was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and that 7 yrs ago. Too much of the stuff he makes these days is simpy rehashing some of his oldr stuff.

He remade Frankenweenie which is his old claymation movie that got him fired from Disney. I saw the preview and it's look really nice but as a 30 minutes little movie and not an 87 minutes one. Long live the Brown Coats.

I am not sure exactly what claymation is.

When Coraline was released, they were saying it was stop motion animation. They film puppets, and move them a little bit at a time. Dakota Fanning worked on the movie about 5 years. I don't how a child could work on a cartoon starting about 10 years old, until she was about 14 years old. Because her voice is the character, and I would have thought her voice would change over the years.

Anyway, I remember one of the actors in the film saying that they produced maybe 3 or 4 seconds of film in a really good day, which is why it took about 5 years to make the cartoon. Edited on Aug 23, 2012, 08:44pm

Who can understand the movie business? Or Wall Street? You can make money, or lose it, and sometimes it's really a matter of luck.

'Titanic' effects maker files for Chapter 11
Associated Press – 1 hr 49 mins ago

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Less than a year after going public, the digital production company founded by director James Cameron has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and agreed to sell the core of its business to a private investment firm for $15 million.

Digital Domain Media Group Inc., best known for its work on Cameron's "Titanic," has produced visual effects for more than 90 movies, including "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and the "Transformers" series. And in April, its Tupac Shakur hologram made a splash when it took the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and appeared to perform alongside Snoop Dogg.

But the company was "running out of cash," Chief Restructuring Officer Michael Katzenstein said in court filings, and had violated cash and debt requirements set forth by its lenders. It tried to find additional outside sources of capital, but wasn't able get enough to restructure its debt and pay its operating expenses, he said.

The downward spiral was swift. The company went public just 10 months ago, selling nearly 5 million shares at $8.50 each, below the expected $10 to $12 range. Drifting to the $5 range by spring, the stock then spiked as high as $9.20 following huge reaction to the Shakur hologram, with the performance garnering 15 million YouTube hits within 48 hours and winning a top award at the creative marketing gathering Cannes Lions.

Building on the buzz, Digital Domain got the green light to create an Elvis Presley hologram for shows, film, TV and other projects worldwide, including appearances.

But by August the struggling company said it would review its options, suggesting a possible sale. Shares have fallen as low as 44 cents in recent days.

One of the biggest shareholders in the company is former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, who is listed in bankruptcy filings as owning 1.6 million shares. From the high to Tuesday's closing price of 55 cents, his holdings have lost $13.6 million in value.

Digital Domain, based in Port St. Lucie, Fla., has studios in California and Canada that create digital visual effects, animation and digital production for the entertainment and advertising industries. The company had spent the past few years building a new animation studio in Port St. Lucie, using millions in incentives from the city and the state.

But it defaulted on a series of loans and just days ago said it would lay off about 280 workers and close its Florida facility. CEO John Textor, also the company's second-largest shareholder, resigned, protesting the decision.

The downfall was so quick the company was still hiring up until last week, said Jack Raisner, a lawyer with New York-based Outten & Golden who is suing the company on behalf of employees, saying they weren't given 60 days' notice of the mass layoff as required by federal law.

"It was inducing people to come from California to the company in the last few weeks," Raisner said. "They were told things to make them believe the company was healthy financially."

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has ordered his inspector general to investigate the process used to award millions in state incentives that were used to lure Digital Domain to the state.

The company said last month in its quarterly earnings report that it had already received about $50 million of $80 million in grants it was awarded by the state of Florida, and that it had spent the money on workers' pay and to cover expansion costs.

Digital Domain filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, along with a Canadian court. Day-to-day operations of Digital Domain's remaining business won't be affected by the Chapter 11 filing, the company said. Debt holders have agreed to provide up to $20 million in financing that will fund its activities while it restructures.

As of June 30, the company had total assets of about $205 million and total liabilities of about $214 million.

The sale agreement with Searchlight Capital Partners LP includes the company's operating subsidiaries in the U.S. and Canada. It remains subject to an auction process where the company can consider other higher offers, and must be approved by the court.

Spoiler alert!

In one of the X-Men movies I saw, Cyclops was already dead.
So I guess that the X-Men movies and the X-Men comics have divergent stories.
But that happens, I guess.

50 years after forming X-Men, Professor X dead
Associated Press – 49 mins ago

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Fifty years after Charles Xavier banded his first class of mutants together as the X-Men, the telepath-turned-team builder has been killed by one of them.

The teacher, who trained mutants in Marvel Entertainment's X-Men comics through the years, was felled in the latest issue of "Avengers vs. X-Men" by Scott Summers.

Summers, aka Cyclops, was one of the team's founding members. In the current series, he's been taken over by the Phoenix force and is lashing out.

Marvel editor in chief Axel Alonso says it wasn't writer Brian Michael Bendis' initial intent to kill the character off, but "as the story progressed it became obvious that this had to be the last stand of Charles Xavier."

He says the mortal blow will have ramifications that will reach into new titles coming this fall.

^Actually both Scott and Doctor Xavier were killed by Jean Grey/Phoenix in X-Men Last Stand. That movie would be a great example to use in movie class on how you can screw up a money making franchise. They picked some of X-Men's favorite characters and then spent two movies developing them to then turn around pretty much kill all of them in the third one. It was such a mess that they couldn't even make a fourth one and decided to instead reboot the entire series and go back in time. Now that's what I call a clusterfuck. Long live the Brown Coats.

Scott was killed off in X-Men Last Stand, as well as Xavier. But due to the laws of Comic heaven, a miracle occurred, and Xavier returned to life.

You don't need to follow consistency or logic in a movie, especially if it's based on a comic book, or science fiction.

My theory is that the studio realised, after doing some early screenings, that they had a gigantic pile of crap on their hands and fans were going to be royally pissed by the wholesale murder of all their favorite characters and that's why they went back and added some new scenes like Xavier being reborn. It didn'twork. Long live the Brown Coats.

As far as I was concerned, killing off Jean Grey/Phoenix was the biggest mistake.

Famke Janssen, the actress who played Jean Grey, is one hot babe.

I've seen quite a few of her movies, including Lords Of Illusion.

I liked her in City of Industry, a small crime movie with Harvey Keitel. A lot of action.

I liked her in Rounders, where she has a small part. That's a Matt Damon movie about poker playing.

I saw Captain America: The First Avenger, starring Chris Evans, in a movie theater in 2011. I thought it was one of the best comic book movies I've seen. I later watched it on DVD, and thought it was still great.

But now Captain America has a new job: President of the United States.

Go, Captain America!

Captain America gets new job title: US president
By MATT MOORE | Associated Press – 1 hr 7 mins ago

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Captain America has a new job with perks, a spacious office and a title that others spend millions of dollars to get: Mr. President.

One of Marvel Entertainment's best-known heroes since he socked Adolf Hitler in the jaw in 1941, the sentinel of liberty will trade his New York City apartment for the White House in the pages of Marvel Comics' "The Ultimates," a series set in the Ultimate Comics universe where the U.S. has been torn apart by factionalism, out-of-control anti-mutant hysteria and outright secession.

A career soldier for whom duty trumps political parties, Steve Rogers is seen as the last hope for the country and wins election as a write-in candidate in issue No. 15, due out Wednesday, said Sam Humphries, who is writing the story line.

He called the election the next step in the character's long role as "America's defender," a job he's had since soldiering during World War II.

"Cap is answering the call of the people. This is not the first time he's stood up for an America in crisis. This is a further evolution in his role as America's defender, from soldier to superhero to president," Humphries said. "He didn't ask for this position, but if it helps him reunite America, then he'll take on the job."

Humphries said Captain America is not in any political party and the job, while not something he sought, is something he will do.

"Cap has been elected to do a job, and he's going to do whatever it takes to reunite America. He doesn't see his place as having press conferences in rose gardens, he sees his place as out in the field," Humphries said. "This will result in a unique and thrilling presidency we've never seen before, in history or in fiction."

Rogers will take the oath of office in issue No. 16, due out in October.

I saw Dredd yesterday and I simply loved that movie. I didn't see a single thing that I'd change. It's really too bad that the movie was tagged with an R rating in the US because this pretty much killed it's chances of making decent box office money. The 3D in that movie is simply gorgeous in large part because of Slo-Mo a new drug where times slows so you have a scene of breaking glass and you see all the thousands of pieces just slowing moving toward you in slow motion.

I'm scratching my head as to why the movie was awarded the R because there isn't that much violence. It's graphic only when Slo-mo is in use otherwise it's your run of the mill multple bullets killing multiple people. Long live the Brown Coats.

Dredd 3D had an opening weekend of $6.3M, which means it bombed. And this was not a cheap movie.

So for people who want to see it in a theater, you need to hurry before it disappears.
