Sort of OT: Topless beaches Interesting video on CNN: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-484938?hpt=C2 The chants of the ladies are pretty funny, "free the udders". I didn't realize there weren't topless beaches in LA, I would have assumed there were. Certainly doesn't seem like topless beaches are all that uncommon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_soc...ces_in_North_America Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars. I believe there were topless beaches in L.A. back around the 1970s-1980s. Never took advantage of it back then, more the pity.

I think topless beaches are perhaps prefrable to nudist beaches. At nudist beaches you get to see a lot of sights that make you reach for the eye bleach. Cap'n. Yeah, the only topless beach I have ever been to was in Europe when I was too young to enjoy it (went to the "wrong" beach with the parents). Amusingly that Wikipedia page lists a nudist camp that is local to my home town - they always have a float in the various town parades - usually some sort of tongue-in-cheek theme, so to speak. Interestingly, the camp is located on Sun Lane right off of Lick Street. Honest. Technically in any New York State Park it is legal for women to go topless, I wouldn't recommend trying it at a park that doesn't have a regular group topless folks visiting it though because locals can get mighty angry about such behavior and be a real pain-in-the-ass despite the legal nature of the behavior. Well, I guess I'm going to have to move to New York before the weather gets too cool. Of course women going topless makes plenty of people angry...because as we are all probably well aware the female breast is evil! Pure evil! And the nipple is so unspeakably horrifying and blasphemous that when it is exposed in public, whether it be at a topless beach or at the Super Bowl, it is like a plague of locusts raining down from the sky! Or topless women are so popular that when men hear about them they flock to the park, pick up the scent, and soon surround the women like a pack of hungry drooling dogs with a bone (Drooler, I'm looking in your direction). I don't know about you, turboshaft, but it took me months of therapy to get over seeing Janet's nipple ring/cover thing. I mean, what the fuck was that thing? It still haunts me... I'm curious where the puritanical fear of nipples came from in American society? Shit, its just a tit, It isn't really even a sexual organ... And if they are so evil why don't men have to cover theirs, espicially the men with hairy saggy ones? Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars. Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Maybe people are worried they're just going to start squirting milk spontaneously! Since guys don't have milk ducts (at least I don't think they do...) they don't have to cover them up. Maybe people think exposing the nipple too much is bad for it, like the possibility of a bad sunburn or something. For an organ that's very important early in a human's life--hell, all mammals, mammary glands are a defining physical feature of the class--the female nipple sure gets a lot of bad press, or just an unusual amount of attention. I think you have an incorrect idea of nipples and by default the breasts they are attached to. Breats are in fact 2 major sexual organs. All you have to do is check past mentions of them on this forum and you'll see that all of us enjoy looking at them. I'd even be willing to say that looking at womens breats gets us excited and turned on. At least I hope that's the case because if it isn't then magazines like Playboy must really have made their money on the great articles. What breats aren't are reproductive organs. If my theory that breats are sexual organs and that just looking at them has the potential to get people turned on then is it any wonder that many societies prevent women from exposing them in public. Another problem that I can see is where do you draw the line with topless beaches? Are they only for adults or are children and teens allowed to expose themselves? See if we include underage girls on topless beaches then you now have that slipery slope of possible pedophilia activities rearing it's ugly head. It makes sense for pedophiles to be near topless beaches if their are any chances of seeing and taking pictures of topless young girls. Long live the Brown Coats.

Sure, pat362, breasts might be sexy organs, but I don't think they are actually defined as sexual organs... I get turned on by ladies with nice legs in short skirts, does that mean legs need to be covered up too? If so, that would spell disaster for me! I just think it is interesting that our society developed this ideal that breasts must be covered, when so many other cultures have different ideals. Of course there is always the argument that if women didn't have to keep 'em covered, would we all really still be that attracted to them. In my opinion, not as much. It really depends which cultures we are talking about. Yes, I think you are correct that the fascination & attraction would be decreased if breasts were commonly displayed. Cap'n. It's the breast cartels that are restricting the visibility of breasts under the guise of religious piety so that we will pay more to see them.

In certain societies, yes! In fact, cover up those hands and that face while you're at it too! If you can't deal with a woman's bare legs, or face, or even her breasts like a mature adult then there's something seriously wrong with your culture. All that frustration and venomous hatred over a few square inches of bare skin is not healthy or safe. No wonder people are upset. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? In the past in western cultures ankles were considered very sexy. In Muslim culture right now, even hands must be covered, let alone faces. I have known Muslim women who are so covered I could not recognize those I knew. Are women so tempting that any sight of flesh drives men completely crazy? Orthodox Jews separate men and women for social events as well as praying because women and their sexual attractions keep men from devoting themselves completely to God. They also forbid opposite gender touching of any kind after childhood. Muslims do that also. If someone wants to hug their daughter in law, that is absolutely forbidden, even though that is completely non sexual. If a customer is due change, both Muslims and Orthodox Jews put the money on the counter so they don't have to put the change in a customer's hand. This nonsense is craziness on steroids. Turboshaft you are completely right about this ridiculousness.

Been in LA since 1977 but never knew of any legally topless beaches. Yes, a bare boob or two might appear "accidentally" but not a bevy of bared boobs. There was Black's Beach near San Diego but the privilege of seeing a mammary montage stopped when they decided to make topless beaches a no no. Now strolling down the Costa del Sol in Spain is another matter. The best part was the casual strollers and the babes who took a solar break in the bars without worrying at all about their tops. And the bad part were the ladies who reminded me of the 300 pound hombres wearing their Speedos.

I was born in LA. The hospital was Cedars of Lebanon, now part of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. I remember way back when (sometimes in the 1970s or 1980s, I think), going with some relatives, male and female, to the beach. We saw a young couple there, probably in their 20s. They were nude. The girl was very attractive. I guess the guy was too, but I paid little attention to him. They were both very casual about the nudity. My impression was that the nudity was legal at the time, because the nude couple was not being an exhibitionist or demonstrating or anything, they were just sitting or lying on the ground. I thought at the time that the beach was nudity-permitted. But I did not try to verify that the nudity was legal or illegal. It was just that my relatives and I came across a nude couple at a beach. And the couple did not try to hide their nudity, or get dressed or leave after we got there. That was the only time I saw a nude couple at an LA beach, and that was by accident. >>>>>>>>>> I found this on the Internet: Los Angeles County Nude Beach Guide Several years ago, public nudity was made illegal in Los Angeles County, and there is no such thing as a legal Los Angeles County nude beach. Anyone found nude here can be cited. Punishment includes a stiff fine and court appearance. Read the Los Angeles County nudity laws. <<<<<<<<<< So apparently public nudity was legal, at least in some places, if Los Angeles passed a law making it illegal several years ago. But my Google search skills are not sufficient for me to find an article stating when or where there was public nudity/toplessness permitted at LA beaches.

That's right I'm right! I mean...thanks, you make some good points. Speaking for myself, I like to think that I have quite a bit of tolerance for religion--I live in America, I better--but when it comes to the costumes, especially the beekeeper suits; sorry, now you've really gone over the edge. You can call it 'tradition' or 'modesty' or whatever silly little term you can come up with to hide what it really is: taking away people's freedoms to decide how to live their lives. Yes, that includes how to dress. I guess it makes it a lot easier to decide what to wear in the morning but come on! Are you kidding me?! I'm not asking that we all walk around buck naked for everyone to see everything. (For one thing, disinfectant and deodorant aerosol sprays would suddenly be in short supply.) But I would like to think the human race is advanced and mature enough to have learned how to live with some bare arms and legs. I really believe there would be less trouble and suffering in the world if so many of its inhabitants weren't brainwashed from birth to fear and restrict all things relating to sex. To be fair there are other religions/groups that require relatively extreme modesty, even in the US, I believe the Amish are pretty strict in dress. Funny how you say the you'd hope the human race is advanced and mature enough to have learned how to live with bear arms and legs - considering our ancient ancestors strutted around with all their business hanging out... I think you might have misread my post. That's why I said, "I like to think that I have quite a bit of tolerance for religion--I live in America, I better--but when it comes to the costumes, especially the beekeeper suits[...]" Yes, I was emphasizing the extreme Muslim dress codes but I was also addressing all religions by saying "the costumes" since so many religions have some sort of made up rule or practice when it comes to dress. Also, yes, as you said, "our ancient ancestors strutted around with all their business hanging out..." but that's why I originally wrote, "I'm not asking that we all walk around buck naked for everyone to see everything." I'm just saying we don't have to go hog-wild and force people to dress like they're going to clean up a hazardous waste spill all the time. If people want to dress in bikinis and tight swimsuits at beaches or lakes then let them (apparently many societies can't handle bare breasts, so let's not go there) but don't act like it's the fall of civilization. Different cultures have different views on which parts are considered erotic, which evolve with time. In Victorian England a public glimpse of a ladies ankle was considered racy. What they got up to in privacy of their own homes was probably considerably more risque. Cap'n.
