Really Interesting Article on OnlyFans & The Possibility of a Shut-Down https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/be...?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma Oct. 2, 2020, 2:54 PM PDT By Kate Zen, co-founder of Red Canary Song On the day in August that former Disney star Bella Thorne joined OnlyFans, a subscription site known for adult content, she made $1 million. Before week’s end, she had made another million. That was bad in itself. Sex workers are the majority of creators on the site, and here was a celebrity coming in and making more in a day than they could in a year. Many sex workers rely on OnlyFans as their sole source of income during the pandemic, as in-person encounters became unsafe. But what especially angered workers was how Thorne caused a wave of chargebacks that “broke OnlyFans” after fans accused her of promising a $200 pay-per-message nude photo that she then shied away from sending. Many sex workers rely on OnlyFans as their sole source of income during the pandemic, as in-person encounters became unsafe. Shortly thereafter, OnlyFans changed its terms and conditions, limiting max subscription and tip payments and extending payout time by 23 days in 14 countries where fraud risk is deemed highest. The company denies these changes were due to actions of any single user, but it’s hard to believe the backlash to Thorne didn’t factor into the decision. To rub salt in the wound, Thorne’s sister Kaili responded to the controversy by seeming to dismiss and shame sex worker concerns. As Sinnamon Love, a long-time adult performer and founder of BIPOC Adult Industry Collective, noted on Instagram, it’s incredibly insulting for rich white women to come into an industry and start judging the people who actually live it. “You don’t get to create some false hierarchy and shame sex workers who are doing this labor because they don’t have access to the same WHITE PRIVILEGE you have.” (Love is also the director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at PeepdotMe, an adult platform and OnlyFans competitor being built that promises 90 percent payouts to creators, compared to the 80 percent paid on OnlyFans.) There’s a lot to unpack here. But while the scandal has mostly died down, the problems it revealed remain worthy of our attention, especially as we head into fall and winter without a clear end to the Covid-19 pandemic in sight. Lots more to the article. Use the link to see the whole thing.

I think the pandemic as been amazing for OF (Only Fans). For one thing their main competition was the various porn sites but with so many of them shutdown or significantly reducing their output. It has meant that more porn models had to seek other sources of income and their choice was OF. I don't know if OF would be talked about as much if the industry was shooting the amount of porn they normally do because OF business model is such that you are more likely to get screwed out of your money with hope of good content beyond their paywall than actual good content. There is no way to know what your money gets you and the vast majority of the models on OF go out of their way to hide the content. What the Bella incident did is bring to the forefront what was already a a serious problem because so many people got conned out of their money with her bait and switch and then complained that OF had to do something to address the problem but I'm a member on another forum where it's common to read that such and such model as crappy content in her OF account but you would never know that by reading her tweets. The simple fact is that if the content was as great as people hope it is then models would be talking about it to get more people to join their OF account. Long live the Brown Coats.

I have been reading on twitter of many models having so much trouble with this site. They get locked out and have to verify identity repeatedly and have their payouts held up for no reason. Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should. Some rich never have enough. And some scammers have a heart of gold. Bella only made money to help people. She was trying to make porn legitimate, and to remove the stigma of sex. What a girl. She has balls of brass. She has risked her career to stand up for her fans, and will make it right that she scammed them. Maybe by posting new PG13 photos, since she wrote that posting nude photos was only a tease and not something she would really do.

Just saw an interesting movie on Netflix: The The Devil All the Time (2020). The preacher, Robert Pattinson, who rose to fame as the one of the vampires in the Twilight series, tells a young girl that to open yourself to the Lord, to show yourself as the Lord made you, that takes true courage. A strange way to seduce a young girl. But if you have the holy power, it can be an effective ploy to get into the girl's pussy. Doing the Lord's work, and spreading joy. Hallelujah.

I listen to a lot of Holly Randall's podcasts. She has interviewed a lot of porn-stars, like Eva Lovia, who are using OF to have more control over their content and to make more money besides. Mike Quasar, who has worked for every company in porn, just about, has posted on Twitter that girls are making so much money on OF that they're blowing off their scheduled non-OF shoots, so he winds up on set with a crew and male talent and no female talent. But I think it's very uneven - Lauren Chen and Marie Oakes, who come from a conservative direction, have a really interesting discussion about that and other issues with OF in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq2OjpVYcgo&t=1510s

And another new article on Only Fans. It looks like the owners of OF are looking at the tea leaves and getting ready to leave adult behind. Given how profitable this model has proven to be, it will be interesting to see who - or how many companies - step in to replace them in the world of adult: https://www.businessinsider.com/onlyfans...ove-1-billion-2021-6
