Spam and more spam One foolish way to put your name on spammer lists is to join a Yahoo group. You join the group, your email is made public to that group, a spammer gets the list, and bing, you are now the target of additional spam that is sent to the membership list of that Yahoo group. Lately I've been getting all kinds of stupid offers in my email box addressed to the Yahoo group I joined years ago, and that group is inactive except for the spammer messages.

My Yahoo! e-mail account is my primary shit and spam (and porn! ) e-mail account. If I ever get suspicious about having to absolutely give an e-mail address for something I give up my Yahoo one and let the spam hit the fan...or the inbox. Sure enough I get more BS there than I do in any other account I have ever held. Consider getting a Gmail (Google's free e-mail service) account. They only track all your personal data, possibly for the rest of your life, without that annoying habit of ever telling you they are doing so. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Agree with turboshaft - got a gmail half a year ago and with the fine Thunderbird program - and that just stopped almost all spammails - now I get 3-4 at the most in a week....that's pretty good considering all that porn-browsing... I've never used my Gmail account for porn though, that could be why I don't get the bulk of my spam there. (I still get some spam with it.) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? turboshaft, Denner, thanks for the Gmail tip. I guess I will open a Gmail account for new mail, and leave the Yahoo email for spam and whatever. Then I should change my email address at accounts that I want to keep open for communication, lost passwords, etc. And try to be more careful about giving out my Gmail account address in the future.

over 90% of all emails sent across the internet is spam. If you have an email address, the spammers will find it. The difference is, how strong of spam filters does your isp have?

A nifty little site I ran across recently (though it is in fact quite old) is 10MinuteMail.com. They give you an email address for 10 minutes, and you can renew it for 10 minutes at a time. It is great for joining free sites that you don't trust spam-wise. Like the New York Times. On a side note: Holy Crikey Pants! That's a lot of smilies! And look at all these little options! Big text, little text, big text, little text. Man, I guess I haven't posted for a quite some time, but this new interface is a real humdinger! "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" The grey ghost makes a reappearance, with McGoohan looking as handsome as ever! Thanks for the tip of 10MinuteMail.com. But not trusting the New York Times on spam? And I thought I was the paranoid one.

I found that rather awesome photo on an Obituary page (sadly), but I knew had to make use of it
It has always bugged me to no end that the Times requires one to register their email address for access to much of their free site. I think they may have finally stopped that practice, but their website remains a bit tainted in my mind because of those years of aggravation. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" It's a good photo, kind of what I imagine I might look like after spending too much time on PU or 'organizing' my ALSScan material--except of course for the suit, the tie, the combed hair...okay, pretty much everything. Thanks for the spam tip, fireone.....and all the good stuff the thread has generated..... Son-of'a-gun.....I didn't know McGoohan had left us. But I suppose now he'll stay alive with our esteemed Toadsith's welcomed appearances.
