A dilemma in hard drive space, when is too much

I have a dilemma in that my 2TB of porn is now almost full, I have a seperate 2 TB of my fav girls A Listers as I refer them as and that drive is backed up.

But I'm running out of space in my other 2 TB drive of basically lesbian and straight stuff, I wanted to back this up with a spare 1.5 TB but not got around to it yet, but with the prices so high in hard drives, almost double what they were I thought I'd see about deleting some of the not so good stuff.

I don't know if anyone with a large collection has ever tried this but its virtually impossible, I just look at a video and think erm its good, keep, but thing is its keep for nearly all of them, I'm struggling to know what to do for the best, its would also take weeks to go through it all. That said I really think buying another drive and then another to backup that one, it gets to be too much and I'll have a desk full of these drives. When is too much, porn is great but also damn annoying, organising it all can take up so much time, part of me thinks just keep your fav A listers but then I'd be losing so much great other porn collected over the years. It would be great to own my own server of say 100TB and never have to worry about running out of space and crashing as it could never crash, sadly that's not reality.

Any advice. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

I am sure we are not alone in this issue.
Mainly, I can only offer sympathy.

4TBs of storage of mainly photos.
It is time consuming enough rationalising those, let alone trying to re edit video.

What's the deal with the solid state drives?

Yeah is your backuped too Capn. It is all a little crazy with me cause I have this collection but always seem to enjoy getting more than looking over it all, like the thrill is more in the collection than the movies themselves, quite weird I know.

Solid state drives I know didn't suffer from the floods in thailand but I don't think they make them of big capacities like 2 TB, I got an 80GB a couple of years ago for my new PC and it cost £125, I think they have come down in price though since then. I'm still < 1TB split between photos and videos - I'm going to try and keep it within that!

Solid state drives had potential reliability issues but I think they are much better now - and are very, very quick; eg I have a couple of folk at work with MacBook Airs and they boot in seconds, almost disconcertingly quickly.

I've not seen any external SS drives yet - you could of course just buy an internal and put it in a carrier, but

a) I suspect the USB connection would be a bottleneck

b) They are currently limited in size - maxing out at 512gb, I think?

c) They cost around £1/gb - approx 10 times as much as regular drives.

So they are great for making a laptop very very quick to use, but not yet suitable for bigger storage needs.

At some point soon, the bridge will appear and will be crossed, however it happens, whether it's deleting some things and/or buying another hard drive even with the high Thai-flood prices.

For me, that bridge appeared and I recently bought a 3 TB to back up pics and mothball an older, less capacious drive. After nearly 4 weeks, it's almost done. And there's a lot of video that I've kept on yet another drive that I have to go through, which I think is more time consuming; with photos, you can open and glance through quickly, but videos tend to make you slow down and watch.

Anyway, with all of the additional space now available, I've gotten more liberal about what I save, so I'll probably be in a similar fix to yours at some point in time, probably this year. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Yeah been reading on a IT forum that drive prices could be high for 2 years before they settle down again, woh, that is a long time, must of been a hell of a flood. Also some guys on there were having drives with much more storage than I thought you would ever need, one guy said before the floods he purchsed 8 3TBs, wow that would keep you going for a while, they cost him $150 each and now $400 each. Here my . How much content on your drives is stuff that you haven't watched in the last 6 months? Is there any stuff that you have never watched? The answer to these questions that might help you decide which videos are worth keeping and which ones you could delete. I'd stay away from your ics because they take a lot less space and would take longer to go through. Long live the Brown Coats.

I go about 1 year and filter out what I do not ever watch, I end up tossing about 400gigs when I do that.
But I am taxing out my drives too at 75% of 3tb gone. Since 2007

4 reasons not to delete stuff :

1. It’s fun to go back over older stuff and re-discover old scenes you forgot about and ones you weren’t that keen on then, you might like better now because tastes change.

2. You’ll find another model you really like and one day, in amongst the junk, you’ll find some scenes of her you never realised you had and be very pleased and which otherwise you might have deleted.

3. There are plenty of external drives 1 to 1.5 TB on Currys digital right now for about £80 which is hardly more than they normally are.

4. Just accept you’ll end up with lots of drives under the desk. It's not worth worrying about. Unless you run your own business just remember to unplug them and throw them in a cupboard when people come round cos no-one has half a dozen drives under the desk unless its for a business or smut.

Hey Thomas.

Nice to get your input.

1) For most folks that is true, for others, probably the minority, preferences don't change. Mine haven't since adolescence

2) Yes, for sure you do stumble on some gems.

3) Interesting info. Thanks for that.

4) I think that may be a guilty conscience kicking in?

Thanks elephant and cap'n! I thought I was a bit weird having tons of material on my externals and yet keep looking for more, more, more at the same time. I could, without doubt, spend the rest of my life looking at what I have already and come across all kinds of galleries and videos that I never looked at closely after I downloaded them. Yet I am constantly weighing in my mind: "which site should I try next?" It is indeed the hunt!

Part of the reason why I think it's good idea to delete stuff you haven't watched in the last 6 months is because I'm rather picky about the content I download. I never do a full site download so it's not like I have 100 of Gigs of content to filter through. I've had a 2tb external drive for about a year now and I still have over 1tb of free space on it because of my being picky. I do a small cleanup on it every few weeks by deleting duplicate files or videos files that looked intweresting at the time but whose content I will never miss. Long live the Brown Coats.

Well, I agree with Wittyguy on one thing. I never download a whole site either. Not even part of a site. I am very picky about my material and download only stuff that turns me on .. yet I have nevertheless managed to fill three externals and much of the material has not been watched completely because of the hunt for that next video or gallery that's really hot. I know it's weird and can't give a rational reason for not watching everything I download on a given day. I put it off by putting it on my external and, in the meantime, get caught up in the next download of interest.

The only reason I can see for keeping huge volumes of porn is the occasional discovery of some gem that you forgot you downloaded. Really though, it's just a mindset. I never download whole sites because I only want the stuff I like and will look at. I guess you could liken it to some food snob who raves about five star meals but disses the all you can eat buffet. When it comes to food I'm all about mass quantities but when it comes to porn I'm a high class snob ... although most would say I'm just in a class by myself.

Funny how I used to be lot more like Wittyguy about the porn. I'd look through every photo, every video, and keep only what I knew I really wanted. Now it's getting more like the buffet, but not "all you can eat."

I've never understood why anyone would want to download an entire site. Is everything on it appealing? Is nothing unappealing? Or are those questions beside the point, and it's just porn hoarding to the extreme? Something like the hard drive with 20,000 Olga's on it? I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I'm more of the type of snob who bitches about the all-you-can-eat porn [insert joke here] and then goes home and eats McDonalds.

It's easy to complain about porn that's not up to your standards when you have so much choice to begin with, but what's wrong with knowing what you like? Or might possibly like one drunken Sunday afternoon in the future when your wife's not home? I don't feel guilty cruising the aisles of the grocery store knowing there are starving people around the world, so why I should feel guilty navigating and downloading masses of porn knowing there people around the world who are, what, not completely adult entertained?

What I'm getting at is even though I keep and have plenty of stuff I most definitely like, I also have a lot of stuff that I sometimes open up and think "I downloaded and saved this? What the fuck!?"

And then I keep it anyway just in case I for some reason broaden my tastes even more in the future--and assuming I don't end up married to an otherwise amazing girl who gives the drives the ol' heave ho (from my cold dead hands! ).

(I wonder, do new wives in the age of Internet porn toss out husbands' spank banks like they do the traditional throwing of the bouquet?)

Hi Pat

Thanks for you input, Oh yes there is lots on the drives that hasn't been seen or a couple of minutes watched at the start maybe on some.

Yeah photos that I have bothered to download, I don't collect much to be honest so not worried about the space they take up.

I've set up a best of folder called 5star+ on each category and slowly going to have to when I get spare time go though and put in some classics and back these up the other if the drive does fail I'll have to just accept. I've decided not to keep buying hard drives, especially at the prices they are at now. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." I did find this Thomas quite funny and quite true.

1.It is fun I agree but when you have so much you never know where to start or what to watch as too many choices and often you pick one that is average.

2. That is certainly true and have had that happen, a girl with a different alias and you downloaded ages ago and now she has become a fav and you find out you had another one of her works.

3. Really, I've never heard of Currys Digital but I'd want now to only buy 2TB or 3TB it saves on having too many hard drives, I have a couple of spare 1 TB and a 750GB that I don't use because you can only have so many drives to turn on. The prices for external 2Tb is quite high everywhere.

4. This made me laugh, yeah it does look like what are all these drives for, I'm ok now as they are out of the way apart from one on my desk but I don't have the room for more. Yeah it is certainly a strange one messmer, I say alot to myself, this is the last site for a while and then sort out the collection and appreciate what you do have, but that never seems to happen and I end up wanting more of my fav girls.

Silly thing I have done though is join Teenmegaworld again and realized that most if not all of my fav girls that have been new updates on the network I already own as been a recent member of Diesel network and they must get them from the same place Adult Labs. Sure there is other stuff new and original but not many of my fav girls are included that I don't already have. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." This is exactly what I would love to be like Wittyguy, I join a site with that in mind, just your fav and great lookers you like but then the bar drops and I end up thinking, that might be good, that looks unique, them girls look good together, before I know it theres heaps of new stuff to get. I then say oh I'll go through and edit them later and chuck out the crap ones, only later never comes and I've moved on to another site, madness, pure madness lol. Yeah downloading a whole site must be rare, there could never be every video that is going to ever get watched and you can't fancy every girl on there, I'm very choosey these days but it soon adds up, I have a lot of favs, probably near 100. Yeah theres nothing wrong with wanting it all though, for one you paid for it all, and if you have the hard drives and can get most of it, why not, it does make it hard to manage though cause most sites don't label their movies very well with the girls name so you need lots of time for editing.

I too have loads of stuff that I downloaded that I think oh never seen this, oh wow good movie and them gems are great to find and if they didn't take too much space I would keep everything, I guess the worse thing is having to backup cause lets face all drives will fail one day as no manufacturer makes fail free drives they all get slated on review sites its hard to know which are the most reliable.

I'm sure new wives in the internet age embrace and respect a guys spank bank and maybe merge her porn collection when you wed, or am I just dreaming. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

It looks to me like you'd be better off trimming your collection?

My experience with this is mostly negative. I purged once back when VHS tapes were pretty much the only game in town. I then purged again when I was burning scenes to DVDs. Both time I purged I regretted it and eventually spent a lot of time and money finding the scenes I had deleted. I know that drive prices are up, but bite the bullet and get another drive. You'll regret that far less in the future than if you delete some of your collection.

You must be dreaming because that situation--merging spank banks--would make even cold-hearted cynics like me want to get married.

However I prefer the more accurate term "vag vault" and I'm not so sure a women would have this (though to be fair I probably have way more boners on my hard drives than I'd care to count...).
