When good Porn Goes Bad ! I was didling, no not diddling I mean diddling around. And realized I have some old porn I mean stuff from near 10 years ago bogging up my PC. It was great stuff it was also allot of 320x480 stuff too. No HD and on my wide screen looks horrible. So whats a Guy or Gal to do with old porn? There is no, donation at Salvation Army for my old porn. Or Shelter where old porn goes when it outta date. I can not give it my pals on here cause thats illegal. So ther then deleting it what should I, or what do you do with used porn that is no longer good but once was? Do you keep it around for a good memory ? Just wondered. Since 2007

I am ruthless when it comes to quality, Cybertoad. I recently weeded out all picture sets that were at 800x600px and below, as well as all videos that were less than 640x480p and I didn't even check to see if some favorites were among them. They stop being my favorites if the quality isn't up to new standards and everything looks blurred and washed out in full screen. I am sure a lot of excellent stuff went down the drain but if I can't have my picture (video or photo) crystal clear I don't want it. Probably the time will come soon when I will delete anything that isn't at least 720p HD! BTW, same thing happened to me with Cable. I no longer watch any of the non-HD channels except the Weather Channel!

I'm from the VHS (and before) era. The first porn flicks I'd ever seen were on the good ol' 8mm projector or a reel-to-reel video tape recorder. Obviously, by today's standards, the quality was pretty bad. So, as much as I love hi-def video, as long as it's not too pixelated, I can deal with "less than crystal clear" with older files. I have stuff from the mid-90s that I hope I'll never lose. All that to say, if you like the scene, why delete it? If nothing else, there's the nostalgia factor. But, I definitely have to add that when sites offer video that looks like 1990 in 2012, it pisses me off big time! Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I've also become a lot more ruthless about quality. I used to have lots of old sets lying around but after a while I just tired of looking at tiny pics or grainy 340 x 480 vids no matter how hot the content is. My view is that porn is a commodity with new stuff being cranked out each day so that once I delete the old stuff I tend to forget about it fairly quickly.

I delete very little. It is less of a problem for me being a photo guy. If I have an old set I particularly like I may even 'remaster' it in Photoshop. I look at some of the old, old tiny grainy pics that I got and think, "What was I thinking?" But that train of thought goes off the rails when I find old pics I got from ATK archives, years back, of Holly Samson as she was all-natural. You know a girl is stunning when it comes through even in old, funky quality pics. Yeah, some of my collection I'll throw away, and some are on the hard drive of an old computer that I still haven't thrown away, and some (as above-mentioned) I'll probably keep 'til my hands are trembling too much with age to do anything about it. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I'm from the VHS and prior era just like RB so I'm quite used to awfull looking porn but I'll still take that porn compared to most of what gets done today. Now your situation may be different so my suggestion to you is that unless you need the HD spave then don't delete it. I made the mistake a long time ago of thowing out my old porn collection and I still regret it to this day. There are some movies that you can'ty find anywhere now and those are the ones I wish I still had. Long live the Brown Coats.

For me it all depends on the content - If it's hot and unreplaceable then I keep it and clean it up as much as possible. Hot's hot so I try to preserve it. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee. I still have a few old softcore magazines from the 80's and 90's. I never threw them out and keep them in a plastic binding as a collectors items-kind of like saving old baseball cards. As far as digitial, I really haven't got into that until recently so don't even have a few gigs of materials. I really only keep photos that I enjoy and don't save whole galleries.

My experience with something like this was that I tossed out some old VHS tapes simply because storing them was such a pain in the ass. I've regretted that ever since. I spent a long time trying to rebuild that 'historical' part of my collection. I realize harddrive prices are a bit high now, but they are still worth it. My advice is to store the stuff so you can go back and enjoy it when you want to.

But that's just the problem, rearadmiral, I can't enjoy anything that is not in top, up-to-date quality. I have no favorite scenes or photo sets if they don't look good on my monitor. I recently got rid of material that I marked FV (for favorite) and "do not delete" only three years ago.Too anal and not nostalgic enough, I guess!

I agree! While I definitley also agree with messmer's desire for only the best quality, I treat that as 'the best available version of a particular scene.' I won't delete a scene unless I can get a better version of it. I honestly can't imagine deleting an old Tammi Ann or Inari Vachs scene because the resolution looks crappy. Having said that, I am always on the lookout for better quality versions of favourite scenes.

Blimey Messmer, wish I was that ruthless when it comes to chucking out time, I struggle like Cybertoad to decide if I need it cause it brought such good memories when first discovered, but yeah on widescreen some of the movies look so bad these days you begin to wonder how you were ever pleased back then with the quality, u just didn't have these huge hi-def files so I guess its the case of not knowing any different. My porn habit started in the 90s and was first sky TV adult channel, the quality wasn't all that bad and at the time you thought it was good but recently looked at a couple of tapes from that era when I used to record sky channels with softcore films, "oh the good old sky day" there used to be some classic foreign movie on some of the overseas channels you used to be able to recieve, it was a joy staying up late as a teenager watching all them, good memories indeed. I miss the randomness of all that turning over channels and landing on some good scene. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

Actually, Elephant, the thing is that at the time the videos and pictures didn't look all that bad because the monitors were smaller and the default resolution was something like 800x600. But watching them now on a much bigger flat screen with a 1680x1050p resolution (in my case) is a pain. To me it's almost desecration to watch a former favorite that is now blurred and washed out looking, it doesn't do justice to the movie or picture set or me! That's why the ruthlessness. Only nostalgia might make me keep something that is now grossly outdated and I don't have any! I tend to live in the present ... at least as far as porn is concerned.

Yeah that is true I used to have an old 15" monitor, used it a while back for a moment when I was testing something out and it was unbelievable that I used this as my main computer screen, I then went to 24" and have a 32" tv for porn which I love, it perfect for them high res movies but as you say is rather overkill for the small size files. Could way to be, living in the present, I hold on to much to the past I guess, I have learnt to be more ruthless with stuff I will never watch ever again. regarding old tired erotica cybertoad wrote : "No HD and on my wide screen looks horrible." I keep the screen resolution icon on my desktop and can change resolution with two clicks, which avoids the stretching the image to fit the screen "I can not give it my pals on here cause thats illegal." I believe the illegality lies in the selling not the giving. .....but then if you're giving it away, wouldn't you give the great stuff rather than the old tired stuff? it's always with reluctance and trepidation that I delete a file, even duplications. deletion is so permanent ans terabytes are cheap. Just a mindset that lingers. The price instability from Thai flooding seems to have resolved itself. Cap'n rote : If I have an old set I particularly like I may even 'remaster' it in Photoshop. Hi Cap'n, could you define "remaster"? I can open an image in PhotoShop, remove the watermark, sharpen the image, tweak the brightness and even stylize the image with the many adjustments of image, contrast, saturation and filterings ( try filter/other/high pass...or using the burn tool and history brush to add a slight gape ) Is this to what you refer? or should I be sitting at the feet of the master remasterer ? unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

There is porn I have thrown out and that includes some I can't imagine why I downloaded in the forst place, but there is porn I will keep because there is something special about it. It does not matter what the viewin quality is. The woman that is in the photo set or film is the main reason. I have my favorites. Being 60 years old a lot of my favorites don't work in the industry any more, I almost said perform, but I suspect they still. They will never remaster old porn videos. No profit in it, but some were great. I hope distributers like Alpha Blue continue to release the old films. A lot of wonderful mammaries in those old films. I held on to "Deep Throat" w/ Linda Lovelace and a video by Sharon Mitchell for quite a while because of their rarity but the more I upgraded my hardware the worse they started to look. I guess it all depends on your personality .. either you are nostalgic or you are not. They are gone from my HD now but I do confess that I felt a twinge of regret when I hit that delete button, even though I confessed to not being nostalgic. Maybe a couple of years from now someone will discover a way to make them look great again .. I only hope I will still be around by then!

Remastering the old videos should be a simple task as long as they have a film copy in decent shape. They need only digitize the film in 720 or 1080p or BlueRay. After a brief set-up, it takes as long as it takes to run the film. unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

I don't think I've ever deleted videos purely because of the resolution, but then, outside I stock for my sites, I don't keep that much porn. I think it might be because I almost never watch videos full-screen. When there are displayed in a video which matches the resolution of the video, it makes no difference, a pixel is still a pixel, so no graininess. Digitizing the print is a simple thing but all you've done is converted a film that is many decades old to digital format. So unless you had a beautiful copy of the film then all the blemishes will be visible on the digital version. The one advantage with the digital copy is that it's a lot easier to remaster the film and clean up all the visble flaws but the cost must be very high and that's where studios hit a road block. There's probably no way to make a profit from the remastered film. Another problem is that I don't think there are that many beautiful copy of older movies left anywhere. Which in my opinion is too bad because I much prefer older movies to what gets done these days. Long live the Brown Coats.

Ah, that's where the difference of opinion comes in, Ed. I almost never watch a video windowed. A) Because my eyes are starting to fail me and B) because I bought a fairly large, wide screen, LCD monitor and I'm going to make full use of it! Same thing happened to me when it comes to watching TV. It's been a long time since I watched any non-HD 4:3 channel. Just can't enjoy it if I can't count every pore on someone's face. I've waited long enough for a good picture and am not willing to waste one second on an inferior one. TV or Internet!
