Adult Book/Video Stores... I asked this question previously; what is the current market position of Adult Book Stores? I remember back in the 80s with the dawn of the VCR, the age of porn for me, Traditional Adult Book Stores that sold XXX Hardcore Mags and paperbacks that started to carry video tapes for rental and sale instead of 8MM movies seen a boom in business. This is true. I still have a few of the Adult Newspapers, swingers, fetish stuff that where all advertisement. Yes it was a dawn of an age for lot of PU members. The 90s saw mega stores that stocked toys, new better quality news stand mags, fetish clothing, accessories along with vast ever growing video collections, the parking lots where full and so where the stores. It seemed like new video production companies where popping up weekly offering high quality porn. Mom and Pops popped up in local neighbors with closed off back areas. I wore out a few carpets in a few places. LOL. When DVDs become the new toy business grew even more. I bought my first DVD Player in an Adult Book Store. Top of the line Panasonic not found in consumer electronic stores. I paid $399 and I still have it and it works fine. Just a few software issues. These top end stores changed quickly to DVD and sold off their video collection cheaply. I bought lots of great porn on clearance that is no longer available today. Advances in computers/monitors, High Speed connections DSL/Cable and the High Tech Internet Sites of good quality took my business out of the Adult Book Store rental to online monthly memberships. I asked a few lady friends that are toy girls where they first bought toys? The all said Adult Book Stores. They all buy online because of better quality, privacy and convince. A few friends that like porn all agreed they rarely set foot in Adult stores, maybe just for old time look. So the question is: Whats the Future of the local Adult Book Store? Maybe I should say the local/highway Adult Entertainment Store? Will Edited on Jan 28, 2009, 04:31pm

I have never really been into porn stores, although it has always been a dream to run one. :) Internet and mail order give that added privacy that people are looking for, at when it comes to being seen in the store or parking lot. The trouble is that stores tend to be much more private if you pay with cash anyway. There is no record of who made the cash transaction, unlike the sits we join and stuff we buy with a credit card. Somewhere all that information is being stored, just waiting to come back and bite us if it ever has the chance. The problem with the porn shops in my area is that they carry nothing but American title. And, IMO, American porn is at an all time low as far as quality is concerned.

Years ago I went to a store that rented adult DVD's. Even then I could hardly find anything that interested me. It all seemed like so much was all the same. I would spend maybe an hour looking and then find something disappointing. The internet is so much more practical that I would never go back. I can find anything you could ever want, without checking out hundreds of same ol, same old DVD's. If stores die out totally, I would never shed a tear.

I never have been into a actual adult book or video store. Been in a few of the smaller ones that are more the lingerie style shops. We have two pretty decent sized ones around here. However one of them has been hounded non stop by the religious people from that town. They even go as far as to photograph your license plate and post it on the web. And if your a trucker they will send it to the company you work for. Somehow the place is still in business. I don't think it'd be worth the hassle to go there.

I absolutely despise the people who do that. When was the last time you seen a porn company publicly mocking a church? It just does not happen because it should not happen. Do not get me going about porn and religion! Ever wonder why all those hidden video shows on television blur out license plates? If your religious fanatics are still posting personally identifiable information on the web, I'm pretty sure the site(s) can be held accountable and sued for, at least, invasion of privacy. Disclaimer: I am not now, nor have I ever been, a lawyer or in anyway associated with the legal profession (other than as a client in 1981). I also never played a lawyer on TV. Wittyguy.....dont get me started on that!! Once I start about hypercritical religious businesses I simply can not stop. I would like to think that taking photos and such of people entering medical clinics could be considered a violation. That would be like asking a psychiatrist in the grocery store if someone you know is a patient of theirs. Even saying they are a patient is violation of privacy and tells some of the story. So I would say the same should go for the abortion clinics.
