Time for Khan to say Good-bye There's a good chance I'll still be wandering around PU for a short time yet but before I'm totally gone, I wanted to take a moment to say a few things. I've been with PornUsers since before it launched for beta testing. I've watched it change and grow over the years. It has grown into something that, in my opinion, is quite unique on the web. A large part of that has to do with you, the core users of PU. Sure, I like to think that, to some small degree, I've helped you get more out of PU. If I haven't, I can only say it was not from lack of trying. But you are the real heros that go a long way to making PornUsers what it is. For that, I thank you. I know that after we discontinued the raffle and Rick announced MyPorn, the participation at PU went downhill somewhat. I hope that even though Rick's attention was shifted to MyPorn, that you never felt that user support here at PU was forgotten. It wasn't. Since it opened, PU was the first thing I check on-line in the morning and the last thing I checked before turning in at night ... often in the wee hours of the morning ... nights, weekends and holidays. It was the least I could do to ensure our users had the best experience possible. But what I really want to stress with this post is this ... I have managed online communities of one kind or another since the mid 1980's. Yeah, you read that right, 30+ years. I've managed communities that covered a broad spectrum of interest. From the new member forum at CompuServe to a private community for MiscoSoft VIPs. From ya-ya new-agers to adult webmasters in the early wild-wild-west days of the web. So, it goes without saying, I've see all kinds of communities and user interaction. And yes, most recently, a community for people who sign up for adult pay sites. Having seen all that, I can say ... without any reservation ... that the group of users here at PornUsers has been the best of the lot. Despite discussing topics covering many otherwise taboo subjects ... and despite the polarizing attitudes on certain niches ... you have been the most adult, the most considerate, and the most civil group of any that I've had the pleasure of managing a community for. So I want to say a most sincere thank you. Over the years we've weathered a few storms and dealt with a few who did their best to cause hate an chaos. But even in those worst of times I knew I could depend on you, the core users here, to help keep PU from turning into just another of those online forums where bickering and name calling are the everyday norm. So, for your patience and support during those times, again, I thank you. I'll be keeping an eye on PornUsers for a long time to come. What can I say, old habits are hard to break. From time-to-time, new owner's permitting, I may jump into a discussion or two. Of course, once it opens you'll also be able to find me sweeping the floors over at MyPorn.com. They'll be forums there and I certainly hope to see a few of you poke your heads in to say howdy to an old friend. Over the years, I've had email exchanges with a number of you. So, for those who might ever get a hankering to drop me an email, feel free to email me at: Khan [at] MyPorn [dot] com. I consider many of you cyber-friends and hope that won't change. So one last time let me say to everyone here ... and to those who are no longer active but still lurk ... thank you for making my time here at PornUsers an experience in civility that I will never forget. I got my first puter in the early eightys , not sure when but Bill Gates didn’t have a job then. It was an Osborne Executive portable unit, about 30 – 40 pounds, running CPM as an operating system A few years later Bill Gates tried to acquire CPM for his new company and scheduled a meeting but the developer stood him up to go surfing. (surfing back then was done at the beach) Gates went with his fall back, MSdos My primary use of this machine was some business apps but largely my time was spent mastering the game of ZORK . I’d heard some were using these new machines to look at women in various stages of undress. ( VSU ) though when I tried that it took me forty minutes to download a single 30K image. There are no lady parts worth that kind of wait. Fast forward to the end of the century. I was visiting a friend in Rochester. Prior to the visit, he had expressed an interest in computers, so I came bearing a load of software and within a day or two he had a new desktop machine. While he was becoming familiar with his new toy, he asked “What about naked girls?” “Don’t bother” says I “ It’s like watching grass grow” Two weeks later, I was back In California and checked with him on his progress with his new toy. He mentioned spending a fair amount of time looking at porn. “ It’s not like that anymore” says he “ They download in no time now” He emailed me over 200 links and sent me on my way. I began a new hobby involving mostly still images with a sprinkling of videos. I happened upon an occasional forum but didn’t linger. Every forum I encountered, was peopled by unevolved “it aint good anal if it don’t hurt” troglodytes. There was no one there I would want for a neighbor. Nothing changed over the next dozen years until a friend said “ You ever heard of Porn Users? Check em out “ I dropped in to have a look-see and was pleasantly amazed. What I found was a collection of men and women who while probably as bent as the rest of humanity, had a high level of word skills and a tendency to think before launching. I found I genuinely liked most of them and would have no problem having them as neighbors. (with the possible exception of Bad Andy, my only consideration being the bandwidth remaining in my neighborhood if Andy were there. It was clear to me from early on that Kahn was the reason PU was so much better than what I had seen in the previous decade. The troglodytes still appeared from time to time, but were short – lived. Thankfully there was nothing here for them. I had several back - channel exchanges with Kahn and was very impressed with his low key policing of the posts. We did not feel policed. Kahn, because of you, this has been a great place to hang out. Your prompt response when you were needed is much appreciated You will be missed, and I wish you the best with what is next for you. Thanks for everything that you have done to keep this site operating as well as it has - there's a lot of shysters in the adult website world, and you and everybody at PU has done a great job protecting us from the worst of them and providing a great forum for being able to find the best of them. | |

I figured this day would come when the site got new owners but it's still a bit of a shock. I don't belong to a lot of forums, and fewer porn forums, but this is easily the most civil place I've found on the internet. And Khan, in large part that's because of your steady hand on the tiller. You'll me missed around here by a lot of people and I'll definitely be one of them. I really hope you have the chance to stop in and say hello once in a while. I hope the future is bright for you. Thanks, Khan, for your firm but friendly hand as moderator. You've praised us for our civility, but there's usually one "bottom-line" person who makes sure that everyone behaves themselves, and we all know that you've been that person. I can also remember more than a few times over the years when, on weekends especially, the trolls and the shills seeking free advertising would pop up on the forum. I'd think to myself, "Just wait 'til Khan gets back!" You will be missed here, but sometimes things have to change. See ya 'round at MyPorn. Guys, I really appreciate all the kind words. They mean a lot. PornUsers has been a good part of my life for quite a few years. Knowing that it added to your enjoyment of PU is great to hear. How much I am able to actually participate here in the future will depend quite a bit on if the new owners don't mind me dropping in. I have no wish to disrupt anything here. Good luck Khan. I'll do everything I can to stop by the new site. I would like to add that as much as everyone talks about our civil community of members here, it should be mentioned that yourself, Rick and Vegas Ken laid the groundwork for how this forum and PU itself were going to work. As an American member this site is one of the last places left where a person can truly experience freedom of speech. The Churchill version where we learned everyone had freedom of speech and when we used that freedom we had to accept others could reply to us however they wanted. Oh no! I'm so late on this one! Khan, you were an enormous reason for the success of this forum over the years. You were always quick to add a little humor, quick to slap a wrist if somebody was getting out of line, and always a source of wise words and great insight. We could always tell if we had a good thread going if you decided to weigh in on it. While I faded away from this forum some years ago, every time I would return, it was comforting to see your username popping up in the threads now and again, with your quiet resolve and good humor. I've been planning on checking out MyPorn whenever it decides to launch, but I'm sure to check out the forums knowing that an old friend will be at the helm of that new ship. Seriously, I don't know what we would have done without you! I guess now we'll find out. I rarely say this to anyone in any profession, but thank you for your years of service.
