Just curious...how do you react when you see signs of self-harm on a model? How do you react when you see signs of self-harm on a model? Do you stop watching her stuff, do you ignore it and continue to enjoy her work? I’m not sure there’s really a right or wrong answer. (Actually, I take that back. I think someone saying that they find signs of self-harm to be a turn-on would definitely be a wrong answer.) Three specific cases got me thinking about this. I think there was a thread here a while back on how you react when a model dies, but I think this is a bit different. The first case is Tanner Mayes. For a while I proclaimed myself the biggest Tanner Mayes fan on the planet but towards the end of her career her drug use really started to affect her. Her performances were lackluster and her skin looked terrible. And her perfect skin was always a draw for me. And as much as I love anal scenes, hers seemed to more out of desperation to get the last few dollars out of the industry before she was used up and cast off. That isn't a turn on. The second case is Belle Knox. I find her to be absolutely stunning and while I don’t normally collect photos I made it a point to download everything of hers I could buy. But then I noticed on some high-resolution photos that there are scars from cut marks on her thighs. I realize that cutting is common in teenage girls and it may have occurred some years earlier, but she lost some of her lustre. The third case is a more obscure model who posed solo on Nubiles as Eden Thomas. I saw her more recently as Brooklyn when she started doing hardcore at Glory Hole Secrets and their sister site POV Wars. In the POV scene she has a fresh cut scar on her wrist. Maybe it was just cutting, but maybe it was more than that. In the glory hole scene she’s wearing bandages on her wrists. I’m not naïve: I don’t think that when a young woman ponders what to do with her life that the choices are as stark as law school or porn. Many women who do porn probably do so because it’s one of the few options they have apart from a minimum wage job. I’m also aware that porn is an industry that exploits some of the models. To many producers they’re a commodity to be used until the next new starlet steps off the bus looking for her big break. So is this an issue for you? I don’t watch many Tanner scenes now because even if I’m watching an earlier scene where she brings freshness and exuberance I can still see how porn almost ruined her. With Belle I have difficulties because I’m always looking to see if the scars are there because I hope to find a scene where her body is as flawless as I once thought it was and I can fantasize that she’s well-adjusted and just having some youthful fun. With Eden / Brooklyn the thoughts of a recent suicide attempt kill the mood for me. Any thoughts?

I don't have an issue watching a dead performer anymore than I have an issue with mainstream actors and actresses that are also dead. Probably because most of them have been dead for a few years or longer. It might be different if they were recently deceased but since I can't think of an instance when it occurred so I can't be sure it would be. I do have a problem with performers that clearly look like they need to take a serious break from the industry. Tanner is probably one of the better example. I can't speak for Belle because I have not seen a single of her scenes and frankly I don't even know if she is still doing porn. I know she cut herself because I remember reading about it and I also know that porn had very little to do with it because she was doing that way before she started doing porn. I feel for the models when I see something like this. It breaks the fantasy, and forces me to remember that some of these models live lives that are not glamorous. Some are truly women on the edge, dealing with desperation, poverty, drugs, and mental health issues. I'm not saying that porn does this to them, but some do live lives like this. The worst for me was seeing a Russian model with the telltale scar that she had her chest cracked. She was too young for heart disease, in her 20's, so it was probably trauma, and a near brush with death. That's a hard life. Also, the model Irina from StreetPiss.com and many of the other early Russian peeing sites has three puncture wound scars on her abdomen and a long scar from her chest to her belly button where they probably had to go in and make repairs, and you have to feel for her too. This stuff isn't really self harm, but often it is the result of bad decisions and a hard life. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off. Edited on Mar 31, 2015, 07:03pm

I don't wish harm on anyone. It is easy to tell someone to get help if you see something wrong, but that doesn't mean they will listen or not relapse a few months or years down the road. Each individual has to take responsibility for themselves. An employer can refuse to keep them on if they continue their abuse, but then they go elsewhere and continue until their new employer sees the abuse. I'm sure that there are employers who would continue to use someone until they start effecting their product, but if you have a performer who is popular and brings a lot of trade to you company, it would benefit you to protect that investment and attempt to get them some help. At some point, word will get out that a performer is not reliable and will discover work hard to find. Then the less scrupulous will only hire them and care little about their health. I could be talking about any industry. A lot of Hollywood performers and musicians that draw ticket sales get tolerated until they reach the end. Warning Will Robinson

It's hard when you notice such things. Sometimes you're browsing the web and come across new material of a girl who was super-cute and super-popular years ago, and now see the effects of a life of heavy drinking. An online friend had such a crush on one pornstar, he lived on an island country where fast internet simply was not available, hence still primarily purchases and watches dvd releases. When he finally got a 1080p Blu-ray release with her in it, finally saw the many straight-line scars on her inner-thighs, definitely sad and he stopped watching her scenes altogether. The hardest part is seeing it and knowing there is nothing that you can do to make any positive change. I even have too many real-life friends I've grew up with who have become alcoholics, some with very serious problems, I've tried helping, it's not possible unless they make the decision on their own they want to change their life. Then here in this situation where we are just the pervert porn viewers, the only thing that one can do to keep sane is forget about it. It's the only option. My preferred choice of porn to watch is soft solo works, while so many others are like fuck that, it's hardcore anal or nothing! As someone who will notice these things in the girls on screen, the frequency of encountering self harm is much reduced when limited to soft porn. Just my observation.

Thanks for replying guys. Your comments are pretty much what I expected from PU - and I mean that in a good way. The members here seem to be a lot more empathetic than on some other boards.
