At one time, back in the 1960s, that might have been a rude and embarrassing question. But today? Does it make a difference that people can live together openly without marriage? Or have children without marriage?

So why is it such a big deal that the mother might not be sure who the father of her child is? Can't she just say she's got the right to breed with whoever she wants?

And as long as she says it with confidence and a smile, she can say, "Fuck you. That information is private."

I'm not saying that society in general will cheer her position. But there are women out there (actresses I've read about) that take that position. They are often lesbian or bi.

He was just making light of her past reputation for being a slut, or at least being somewhat slutty, and I think he already knew the answer--that she did and was planning on getting married--which she explained right afterward. I found it funny just because so many comedians and hosts would have just poured more sugar on the story instead of trying to squeeze another laugh out of it. I'm in the camp where little to nothing is sacred when it comes to comedy and those kind of jokes make laugh. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Sad news article. You read the story and wonder what's happening to Randy Quaid. Are the problems he's having with the law (being arrested for using a bad credit card, living on the property of a house he used to own) a sign of mental illness, drug use, or what? The man (and his wife) apparently need not just legal help, but mental help as well.

And he is not that old. So I do not think it's Alzheimer's disease.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Actor Randy Quaid and his wife are facing burglary charges in California after the owner of the couple's old house reported they had been living there without permission.

A representative of the property owner called Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies Saturday afternoon to report that squatters had been staying in the guest house illegally. When deputies arrived at the house that evening, they found Randy and Evi Quaid, who said they had owned the property since the 1990s.

The property owner's representative provided documents that showed his client had bought the home in 2007 from a man who had purchased it from the Quaids several years earlier. A contractor showed police more than $5,000 in damages to the guest house that he believed was caused by the Quaids.

Police arrested the Quaids on charges of felony residential burglary and entering a noncommercial building without consent, a misdemeanor. Police also charged Evi Quaid, 47, with resisting arrest.

Bail was set at $50,000 each.

Last September, the couple was charged with defrauding an innkeeper of more than $10,000 as well as conspiracy and burglary after an invalid credit card was used at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Arnie Tolks had said an invalid card also was used at The Biltmore, a luxury resort in Santa Barbara.

Felony charges were later dropped against Randy Quaid, 59. Evi Quaid pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of defrauding an innkeeper and was sentenced to three years' probation. She was also ordered to perform 240 hours of community service.

Randy Quaid won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of President Lyndon Johnson in "LBJ: The Early Years," but he's perhaps best known for his roles in the "National Lampoon's Vacation" movies, "Independence Day" and "Kingpin."

He is the older brother of fellow actor Dennis Quaid.

Eli Wallach appears in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which opens today. He is also in another movie, The Ghost Writer, which opened this year.

The guy is 94. He's been married for 62 years to Anne Jackson (the actress).

Wallach will be getting an honorary Academy Award this year.

I thought he was great as the bandit leader in The Magnificent Seven. And he was great as Tuco in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly with Clint Eastwood.

The man is a freak. Married 62 years to one woman. Still acting after 65 years in the business.

God bless, he's like the energizer bunny, that keeps going, going, going....

Being both a fan of Quentin Tarantino's movies and a fan of good history, reading Patrick K O'Donnell's fine book, The Brenner Assignment: The Untold Story of the Most Daring Spy Mission of World War II, which discussed OSS missions behind enemy lines in Italy in the latter days of WW II, I was blown away to realize how much of Inglorious Basterds was very close to life, including an OSS captain who could easily have been a model for Brad Pitt's character, stories of all-Jewish or mainly-Jewish units that went behind enemy lines to kill as many Nazis as they possibly could, and SS commanders, fully as smart, ruthless, and persevering as the main Nazi character in the film. Good stuff!

I had to share this with my fellow PU members: Justin Bieber is open to falling in love with a fan. Oh my gosh, golly, gee whiz!

Justin Bieber is one of the hottest teen stars around. I think he is a singer (but I've never heard any of his songs).

But isn't it wonderful that he would be willing to fall in love with one of his fans? He already loves his fans, but the next step would be to fall in love with one of them. How thrilling!

(And this is the type of entertainment news we get to read in the entertainment section of Yahoo.)

ROLL CALL: Justin Bieber Open To Falling In Love With A Fan

Biebs Open To Love With A Fan: Bieber Fever has just hit epidemic proportions! "I get asked all the time would I date a fan and my answer I would date whoever I fall IN LOVE with, and yes that could be a fan," Justin Tweeted early Monday morning. Before all you Bieber gals go and dump your current guy, it's not just any old fan that might win his heart. "My fans and i we LOVE EACHOTHER. But to be IN LOVE with someone u need to get to know them personally," he added in another Tweet. Now his millions of rabid fans just have to figure out how to get to know him - might we suggest becoming bang cutting aficionados? Edited on Sep 27, 2010, 04:48pm

Funny that you have this story. I guess this is his PR team doing damage control after pictures of him kissing a girl in the back of a cab surfaced last week. The girl in question is his opening act.

Justin is a 16 yrs old that looks about 12 or at least that`s how they want him to look. This kid is destined to have serious issues in the not too distant future. His core audience are mostly pre-teen girls.

You could torture yourself and look at a couple of his videos but I`m warning you that your ears might start to bleed or your head will explode. Long live the Brown Coats.

Apparently stupidity or carelessness.

Do not go hiking by yourself, even with your pet dog, when the temperature is even close to 113 degrees Fahrenheit. Take a companion with you in case you run into trouble.

Tarantino film editor dies on hike in LA hills

LOS ANGELES An award-winning film editor has died while hiking in the Hollywood Hills during a record Southern California heat wave.

Assistant coroner Ed Winter confirmed Tuesday that the body found along a Griffith Park trail is 56-year-old Sally Menke, who edited every Quentin Tarantino film from "Reservoir Dogs" in 1992 to "Inglourious Basterds" last year. Identification was first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

The body was found at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday along a remote Beachwood Canyon hiking trail. Her black Labrador retriever was nearby.

The cause of death hasn't been determined, but Winter says there is no sign of foul play. He wouldn't disclose details or speculate whether heat may factored in her death.

Menke had gone hiking Monday, when temperatures in Los Angeles peaked at 113 degrees.

Sad story, too bad. Never really heard of her, but certainly she did good work.

I'd say it is a good rule of thumb to never go hiking by yourself, pretty much ever. There are deaths all the time at the grand canyon from just that type of thing... Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

Editors are sort of the directors behind the scenes, and they can end up having a lot of control over a movie's final cut, though the director is probably heavily involved too. Sad because it might have been an easily preventable death and she likely would have worked for a few more decades.

Take a Camelbak full of water or lots of bottled water! Triple digit heat is dangerously hot, regardless of the humidity, though being in bone dry Southern California could probably make you lose water faster than you realize. When it's really humid and hot it's like your in a sauna and you're much more aware of how much water your body is losing.

But you're right going hiking alone can be risky. The S. Cal users can probably attest to this better, but I have heard there are numerous mountain lions around L.A. and San Diego and they pose a serious threat to people and their pets. Actually, LK, you might have taken the time to check the facts before spouting this no-nothing crap. She had a companion. He had turned back. She had chosen not to.

That's life. She died. People die - that doesn't make them stupid or careless. You're going to die some day too - hope that doesn't come as some incredible surprise. Hope someone doesn't print equally no-nothing bs when you do.

To be fair PP, on CNN the other night they said she headed out with a companion, but turned to go back down the canyon alone. It may be semantics, but that is hiking alone as she chose not to continue with her companion - regardless of the fact that she started out with a friend. Obviously her death may not have been preventable even if she had stayed with her companion... Perhaps what they said on CNN was wrong, not like it'd be the first time.

Either way, it is a sad story. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.

PinkPanther, I understand you are angry and upset that she died.

I believe it was careless for this woman to be hiking alone with her dog in a remote area where the temperature was extremely high. What help was available if the woman had a problem?

People are sometimes careless. And sometimes it does not turn out well. The fact that this woman died indicates that there was some problem, or she would not be dead.

Edit01: I should add that her loss is a sad one, because she was obviously a very talented woman, who helped to create some very fine and enjoyable movies. Edited on Sep 30, 2010, 05:03am

Hopefully this story can educate people on the danger of doing any strenuous activities during extreme heat and/or humidity warnings. Seeing as she was with Quentinn since his first movie than you could argue that it was really their movies. Hard to know what this will do to him. Long live the Brown Coats.

Seems like a lot of entertainment figures are dying recently: Tony Curtis, Eddie Fisher, now Stephen J. Cannell.

I didn't realize Cannell was already 69. He used to be huge on TV, with the A-Team, Rockford Files, Baretta, Wiseguy, and other shows to his credit.

Producer of 'The A-Team,' other shows dies

By FRAZIER MOORE, AP Television Writer Frazier Moore, Ap Television Writer – 2 hrs 31 mins ago

Stephen J. Cannell, the voracious writer-producer of dozens of series that included TV favorites "The Rockford Files," "The A-Team" and "The Commish," has died at age 69.

Cannell passed away at his home in Pasadena, Calif., on Thursday night from complications associated with melanoma, his family said in a statement on Friday.

During three decades as an independent producer, he distinguished himself as a rangy, outgoing chap with a trim beard who was generally identified with action dramas full of squealing tires and tough guys trading punches.

But his range was greater than for which he was given credit. "Tenspeed and Brown Shoe" was a clever detective drama starring Ben Vereen and a then-unknown Jeff Goldblum in 1980. "Profit" was a shocking saga of a psycho businessman that was unforgettable to the few viewers who saw it: Fox pulled the plug after just four episodes in 1996. With "Wiseguy" (1987-90), Cannell chilled viewers with a film-noir descent into the underworld that predated "The Sopranos" by more than a decade.

"The Rockford Files," of course, became an Emmy-winning TV classic following the misadventures of its hapless ex-con private eye played by James Garner.

"People say, 'How can the guy who did "Wiseguy" do "The A-Team"?' I don't know," said Cannell in an interview with The Associated Press in 1993. "But I do know it's easier to think of me simply as the guy who wrote 'The A-Team.' So they do."

During his TV heyday, Cannell became familiar to viewers from the ID that followed each of his shows: He was seen in his office typing on his Selectric before blithely ripping a sheet of paper from the typewriter carriage, whereupon it morphed into the C-shaped logo of Cannell Entertainment Inc.

That was all the idea of his wife, Marcia, he said, and it "appealed to my sense of hooey. ... I'm a ham."

He was also an occasional actor, most recently with a recurring role on ABC-TV's series, "Castle."

A third-generation Californian, Cannell (rhymes with "channel") got into television writing scripts for "It Takes a Thief," "Ironside" and "Adam 12." It was a remarkable career choice for someone who had suffered since childhood from severe dyslexia (he became an advocate for children and adults with learning disabilities).

Cannell in recent years had focused his attention on writing books. His 16th novel, "The Prostitute's Ball," will be released this month.

"I never thought of myself as being a brilliant writer, and still don't," he said in the AP interview. "I'm a populist. With 'Rockford,' we were never trying to be important. And as thoroughly hated as it was by critics, I loved 'The A-Team.' I thought it was really cool."

He was a producer of the feature film updating "The A-Team," released earlier this year.

Cannell is survived by Marcia, his wife of 46 years, their three children, and three grandchildren.

Iron Man 2 sells more than 1 million DVDs the first day of sale. Sells more than 5 million DVDs the first week of sale.

I guess Iron Man 2 was the biggest movie of the year (in box office). But those are huge numbers for DVD sales.

"Iron Man 2" sells more than 1 million DVDs in one day (Reuters)

Wed Oct 06, 2010, 10:37 pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - There was never any question that "Iron Man 2" would be the biggest home video seller and renter of the week.

The only question was how big the blockbuster sequel would be, given the home entertainment business's lackluster performance these last three years.

But as it turned out, the Paramount Home Entertainment release, which many in the industry considered a harbinger of overall fourth-quarter performance, was a hands-down smash for the week ended October 3, selling an estimated 1.1 million discs its first day in stores and ending the week just past the 5 million-unit mark, according to Home Media Magazine's Market Research Department.

Accordingly, "Iron Man 2," which grossed $312 million in U.S. theaters, debuted at No. 1 on all three home-video charts, by a wide margin.

On the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, "Iron Man" outsold its nearest competitor, the Universal Studios comedy "Get Him to the Greek," by a margin of more than 8-to-1. On the Blu-ray Disc sales chart, the discrepancy was even greater: "Get Him to the Greek," with a $60.1 million box-office pedigree, sold less than 7 percent as many Blu-ray Disc units as "Iron Man 2."

And on Home Media Magazine's rental chart for the week, "Iron Man 2" also was a resounding winner, although "Get Him to the Greek" managed to generate around 71 percent as many rental transactions as the fast-paced actioner.

"Iron Man 2" also was the first big fourth-quarter release ever to sell more copies on Blu-ray Disc than on DVD. According to Nielsen research, 52 percent of the title's first-week sales were on Blu-ray Disc, although it should be noted that Nielsen data does not include Walmart or Sam's Club, where the ratio of Blu-ray Disc sales is typically smaller than at most Nielsen-reporting retailers.

I don't know if it was the same thing in the US but Iron Man 2 was sold at the ridiculously low price of 22$ for the Blu-Ray version and 22$ for the regular at Walmart in Canada. Those prices were sure to boost sales. Just to compare a movie released this week. The Blu-Ray version of Beauty and the Beast is sold for 28$ at walmant in Canda. We are talking about a nearly 20yrs old movie. Long live the Brown Coats.

I saw both Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 2 at the movies. I liked both movies, but thought Iron Man 1 was better. Enjoyed the relationship between Robert Downey and Gwyneth Paltrow in part 1, where they are getting close. Then in part 2, the relationship started over, and they didn't even get as far together as they had been in part 1.

Kind of hard to develop relationships, or advance further, than "interested" or maybe "sleeping together", when you have separate movies. Especially for comic book movies.

So the relationship in part 2 of Downey and Paltrow went nowhere.

Also liked the story in part 1 better. There was more emotional involvement. The Downey character grew in part 1, from being a pure playboy to someone who cared about Paltrow emotionally, as well as someone who cared about his country and people in general. And the villain (Jeff Bridges, mainly), was excellent.

Mickey Rourke was more of a cartoon villain. Along with Sam Rockwell, another cartoon villain.

And Scarlett Johansson, a lovely hunk of flesh, was just wasted as a minor character. She was there more to introduce her character for other movies in the franchise, than as someone to be interested in in this movie.

Iron Man Part 1 was a great introduction.
Iron Man Part 2 was a step backward, as far as I am concerned.

Well, even at $20 a copy, over 5 million copies means $100 million dollars in sales.

That is almost all pure profit. I figure it costs less than $1 to make the DVD.

Have to split the revenue with the retailer, etc., but this is a blockbuster movie with huge profits going to the studio.

Separately, Disney, which has a huge catalog of back movies of classic cartoons, has made bundles of money from their DVDs, TV shows, merchandising, etc.

Movie marketing costs-Not sensible or reasonable:

I'm not in the business, obviously, but the financial side of movie making appears to have little sense or reason.

A mid-level movie that costs $32 million to make, costs $50 million to market.

That does not make sense to me. You spend $32 million to make a movie, and then it takes $50 million to advertise the movie?

It would seem that you would spend the bulk of the money to make the movie, which is a "somewhat" lasting product (theatrical run, DVD sales, TV sales, whatever).

And then you spend a much smaller amount of money to advertise or "sell" the movie to the public.

Why spend such a huge amount of money on advertising, which has an extremely short-term effect on sales?

A TV ad, a newpaper ad, a radio ad, is here today, and gone from memory a short time later.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<<<<<<<<<<<

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/movies.reut...d-box-office-reuters

"Secretariat" carries a PG rating and a roughly $32 million price tag, but its marketing costs ran to about $50 million because of the standard pricey TV commercials and other media buys. In a strategy reminiscent of last year's sports drama "The Blind Side," a supplemental grassroots
campaign tied to the picture's inspirational subtext has targeted faith-based groups.

Directed by Randall Wallace ("We Were Soldiers"), "Secretariat" is a 1970s-set sports tale about a famous Triple Crown pursuit. Diane Lane portrays racehorse owner Perry Chenery, with a supporting cast of John Malkovich, Scott Glenn and James Cromwell. Reviews have been largely
positive, but tracking appears soft in all demographic groups. The strongest support for the film is with older women.

Software on tap to slim actors on-screen (Reuters)
Source: Reuters 1 hour, 8 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Goodbye, Hollywood fat suits!

Scientists in Germany have created software that enables actors to appear thinner or heavier on-screen. The program also alters muscle tone and body shape, according to The New Scientist (via Valley Wag).

The developers say their software will save money because advertisers won't have to shoot different actors to account for "standards of beauty ... across cultures." They also say it can help stars stay healthier, pointing to Robert De Niro, who famously gained 60 pounds for his role in "Raging Bull."

"The actor wouldn't need to go to all that trouble," a scientist is quoted as saying.

The budget for making a movie is very well calculated before they start filming and unless there is a major problem during production then cost overun should be minimal.

The reasons why the marketing can be more expensive is that you can't predict the cost of advertising on TV ahead of time since it's based on the show and time slot you select and those numbers can fluctuate based on the popularity of the show(s). I think radio and print advertising is prety stable so those numbers should not fluctuate very much. You then have to add the cost in paying the actors to attend film festivals, red carpet events, press junkets and so forth. It's also possible that smaller movies require a bigger advertising budget because unlike a blockbuster that has word of mouth buzz propelling them along, they need to tell people what their movie is about. Long live the Brown Coats.

Average movie ticket price is $13 in New York City. And I thought my area was high for tickets (I live in a suburb of Los Angeles).

People who live/work in New York City need a higher salary because of the higher cost of living. And then they move away on retirement, where the higher retirement pay goes farther.

A sick time bill being mulled by the New York City Council would cost movie theater operators and could lead to ticket price increases of $1 or more, the New York Post reported Monday.

The National Assoc. of Theatre Owners predicts that the average movie ticket price would rise to $14 in the Big Apple. "This bill will run us about $1 million a year," NATO state executive director Robert Sunshine told the Post.

It would also hurt temporary hiring that theaters tend to do around Thanksgiving and the holidays. Sunshine predicted a 15%-20% cutback on hiring if the bill passes. Under the proposed bill, businesses, including single theaters, with fewer than 20 full-time employees would have to give part-time workers five days of paid sick leave.

"Even if you worked a Monday through Wednesday shift, you could call in sick on Thursday and Friday and get paid for those days," Sunshine said.

True love, Hollywood style

Why can't more people be like this lovely couple, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who have separated after 11 years of marriage? They both love each other deeply, and are best friends, and want the best for each other. Courteney also wants David to be free to satisfy his needs. So if that means another woman or two, well, that's what he wants, so she wants it too.

But she doesn't want sex with David unless the moment seems right.

Which is the way it should be.

More people should read about this loving couple (or separated couple) and learn to spread their love and joy in the world.

What the world needs is love. More love. And more fertilizer.

David Arquette Talks Separation With Courteney Cox: 'We're Still In Love'

Just a day after Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced they are separating, David called into "The Howard Stern Show" on Sirius Satellite Radio on Tuesday and revealed a slew of alleged details about the couple's relationship.

"I'm heartbroken," David said of his separation from Courteney. "I'm not the one who called this separation in order...we're still in love with each, we're still best friends."

According to David, he and his wife of 11 years began to drift away from each other.

"After our 11th year anniversary she gave me the motorcycle and said, 'I don't want to be your mother anymore,'" David said in the interview recalling a past incident with Courteney.

The couple's alleged problems continued when they traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to film the latest chapter in the "Scream" franchise.

"We go to do 'Scream 4' and I'm feeling distance, obviously, from my wife. We have not had sex in quite... a month or so... we're not having sex and I completely understand," he continued. "She's in a very, a place of wanting to be real and emotional. She's an emotional being. She's an amazing woman... that if it doesn't feel right... she doesn't feel like bonding in that way."

David told Howard that following their time on "Scream 4" they decided to attempt a "trial separation."

"We're still tight, I love her with all my heart and she loves me with all her heart," David explained, also claiming that during the separation he was free to be intimate with other women. "We get a trial separation, we have agreements with it. She knows she's not f***ing me and she's like, 'Listen, I want you to be able to, you know, do whatever you have to do. Essentially, free to see people.'"

"So, she's free to see people, that's what she wanted?" Howard asked.

"Maybe," David replied.

The 39-year-old actor denied that he was dating anyone, but acknowledged that he'd been with another woman once, "maybe twice."

He would not name the woman, but confirmed to Howard the girl in question was the same one being widely reported, who is Jasmine Waltz.

David said he doesn't believe rumors that Courteney strayed from their relationship with "Cougar Town" co-star Brian Van Holt.

"I truly don't think she ever had an affair with Brian Van Holt," he said, explaining that he allegedly confronted her about it. "She denied it, I do believe her... on an emotional level. I think she may have... bonded with him, yes."

David said they told their 6-year-old daughter, Coco, about the separation during a picnic on the beach.

"'Are you guys getting divorced?'" he recalled Coco asking and he told her, "'No, we're taking time off to know ... what we want out of our mate better.'"

He ended the interview on a small note of hope.

"I love her with all my heart and she loves me with all her heart ... We're trying to get real with each other, real with ourselves," David said. "I want her to be happy... more than I want happiness for myself."

Access Hollywood was unable to contact Jasmine Waltz for comment at press time on Tuesday.

The Hollywood rumour mills have been active for quite a while now about both of them and I think there were some indescretions from both sides. It's next to impossible to keep any secret if you are in the public eye. The days that an actor like Rock Hudson could pretend to be the are nearly gone. It`s getting harder and harder for actors and actresses to do the pretend game and get away with it.
Who knows, maybe David was a fan of natural women and when Courtney got some large implants then he lost interst and it was was the beginning of the end. Then again it`s Hollywood and can anyone name me an actor or actress that is still married to their first wife or husband? I mean longer than 15yrs since 10 seems to be the magic number for Hollywood break-ups. Long live the Brown Coats.

Thanks Toad. That's pretty impressive and Ed is married to actress Amy Madigan which makes this even better since that is usually a good indication that the mariage will break up because of their onscreen pairing or the fact that one is more popular than the other and that often causes issues in the mariage. Long live the Brown Coats.

- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger--24 years. Maybe he's just been married once because he's always had political ambitions, or he fulfilled all his fantasies back in the '70s.

- Martin Sheen--48 years! That's pretty good for Hollywood, though his son Charlie has more than made up for it. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I've ceased being a movie buff a long time ago....just seems to happen to a lot of guys my age.
However, Perusing this thread for the first time, I've picked up on some pretty nifty stuff....I mean, like, shucks! I don't get this much up-to-date news even on the major news and entertainment TV channels.
And you, 1k2fireone, they could use you at CNN.

But what actually spurred me to pen this post was your opening up the subject of Eli Wallach. This master showman is far and away one of my favorite actors of all time. The man has talent to burn. Why I haven't seen him playing in leading roles is beyond me.....unless he choose to do character parts.
It doesn't surprise me that he is so highly sought-after for parts....the damed man simply lights up the screen. And, more importantly, he makes his counterparts look better than they actually are.

Scary news for the adult film industry.

Calif. porn actor tests positive for HIV (AP)
Source: AP 1 hour, 18 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - A porn actor has tested positive for HIV at a California clinic, setting off a scramble to track down partners who may have been exposed, and spurring two major production companies to suspend filming.

The actor was a patient of the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, a San Fernando Valley clinic that caters to actors in the multibillion-dollar adult entertainment industry. The actor's identity and gender have not been released.

Clinic spokeswoman Jennifer Miller told the Los Angeles Times that efforts are under way to notify individuals who may have had sexual contact with the actor. Miller did not return calls or e-mail from The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment told the Times that they stopped production as a precaution when the positive test was revealed.

Los Angeles County public health officials and state occupational health officials have said the widespread lack of condom use on porn sets puts performers at risk for contracting HIV and other diseases. Major adult film producers, including Hustler's Larry Flynt, have spoken out against the use of condoms in porn because viewers find them to be a turnoff.

Last year, a woman tested positive for HIV immediately after making an adult film, and in 2004, an HIV outbreak affecting several actors spread panic in the industry and briefly shut down productions at several California studios.

Porn actors are required by law to test negative for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases within 30 days of going to work on a film.

State workplace safety officials at Cal/OSHA are considering strengthening rules designed to prevent transmission of disease through bodily fluids to specify the use of condoms in the adult entertainment industry.

Currently, the same laws that call on health care professionals to wear gloves and other protective barriers when dealing with patients applies to the adult film business, but the laws don't make specific provisions for porn.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein said his organization has been advocating for a tightening of the rules, and the adult entertainment industry and AIM clinic would "do everything in its power to prevent us from knowing who was impacted."

Weinstein said the latest case is the ninth HIV-positive adult film star to be treated at the AIM clinic since the 2004 outbreak.

Chief Counsel for Cal/OSHA Amy Martin said the clinic has been uncooperative in providing state regulators with key information by citing a patient's federal right to medical privacy.

But the clinic has even refused to provide redacted copies of employment histories for infected actors, which would allow the state to investigate porn production companies without naming the sick patients, Martin said.

HIV is spread most often through sexual contact, but can also be contracted through sharing contaminated needles for drug use, infected blood products, or babies born to or breast-fed by infected women. It is the cause of AIDS, an immune disease that gradually destroys the body's ability to fight illness.

Popularity is a funny thing. Eli Wallach is a major character actor, who has been in continuous demand for over 60 years in plays and movies. He's played leading roles on stage, but never got leading man status in movies. Although he is and was a major recognized talent in movies.

As I said before, I thought he was great in The Magnificent Seven and in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Lol. Great clip with the now-current governor of California. Only in America!

Don't think I didn't know or I forgot that Cameron also made the sequel to "The Terminator" (though none of the other sequels). But a little bad news; supposedly the director of the 4th film is working on doing a fifth Terminator to add to the heap. I guess those damn machines never die. Cheers

Seeing as how they ended the 4th film then it's not a big surprise. At some point, I hope they will put a nail in the coffin and bury this franchise because each version keeps altering the mai premise. Long live the Brown Coats.

Be aware he is pushing 95 so I don't think he'll have a lot of big roles left. That having been said his filmography is impressive. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Rolling Stone Keith Richards: Mick 'unbearable'
AP

– 2 hrs 58 mins ago

LONDON – Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards describes frontman Mick Jagger as unbearable in his soon-to-be published autobiography.

Richards says he and Jagger used to be friends but have been estranged for decades. The details about his strained relationship with Jagger are spelled out in Richards' book "Life," which will be published Oct. 26.

In an interview published Friday in The Times newspaper, Richards says he has given up drugs since he required brain surgery after falling from a tree in Fiji in 2006.

He says he and Jagger are discussing another possible Stones tour despite their differences.

Jagger's ex-wife angry about painting
Published: Sept. 19, 2010 at 1:50 PM

LONDON, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Texas model Jerry Hall, the ex-wife of rock star Sir Mick Jagger, said she is shocked by a painting depicting a man breastfeeding her son Gabriel.

Hall said artist Lucian Freud painted over her face in a picture of her breastfeeding Gabriel, the youngest of four children she had with the British rock star and founding member of the Rolling Stones, London's Daily Telegraph reported Sunday.

The artist allegedly painted the face of his male assistant over Hall's face in a portrait on display at the Dallas Museum of Art, the report said. Gabriel was born in 1997.

Hall said she was unable to complete her sittings for the portrait because she became ill, and said Freud, 87, replaced her features in the painting with those of his assistant, David Dawson.

"I was really upset about that," said Hall. "It is now hanging in the Dallas Museum. I went there and saw it. It was very upsetting. Gabriel looks beautiful, and you can kind of see me underneath. I am still there."

Hall, 54, said the artist further angered her when he told her she could purchase the painting if she didn't want it displayed.

"Lucian said I could buy it and take off the top layer," Hall said.

A man who collected Freud's work for more than 50 years reportedly said of his subjects: "I'm not sure how much he loves women -- for horses and dogs he shows affection; his portraits of the ladies are misogynous."

Hall was reportedly selling another of Freud's portraits of her at Sotheby's next month. It is a nude painting of her pregnant with Gabriel, the newspaper said.

"I want to downsize. I want to get a place in the country," Hall said.

APNewsBreak: Randy Travis and wife-manager divorce
AP

By CHRIS TALBOTT, AP Entertainment Writer Chris Talbott, Ap Entertainment Writer – 27 mins ago

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Randy Travis and his wife-manager Elizabeth Travis have divorced. Family spokeswoman Maureen O'Connor confirmed to The Associated Press on Friday that the divorce was final.

No further details were given, but an earlier statement that the couple had "parted ways" said Elizabeth Travis would continue to be Travis' personal manager. The statement said the couple would have no further comment and asked for "respect for their privacy during this time."

Neither could be reached for comment.

A petition for dissolution of marriage was filed by Randy Travis in Albuquerque, N.M., on Thursday. They have a home in Santa Fe. The petition calls for an equal split of assets, but offers no clues about why the Travises split, other than saying a "state of incompatibility exists between the parties."

The couple has had a 34-year business and personal relationship that began when a teenage Travis won a talent contest at the Charlotte, N.C., nightclub his future wife owned in the mid-1970s with her first husband. They married in 1991.

They moved to Nashville in the early 1980s. Travis was turned down by most of the record labels in town because he was considered too country.

Under her guidance, he eventually landed a record deal and put out his first album, "Storms of Life," in 1985. Soon the singer with the smooth baritone and straight-up style revolutionized the genre, spurring the so-called neotraditionalist movement that produced some of country's biggest stars.

Travis went on to sell millions of albums and has won more than two dozen major awards, including six Grammys. His latest came earlier this year when he won best country collaboration for "I Told You So," a duet with Carrie Underwood.

I'm certainly not the marriage expert here at PU, but some states have no waiting periods after filing divorce, so it theoretically could be granted the same day. Tennessee law requires 60 days, but New Mexico has no waiting period, so that's probably why they filed there.

It's likely he has millions in assets to divide up so just filing for divorce is the easy part. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Just saw Never Let Me Go the other night, and it is an excellent film, I highly recommend it. Although it is sad, it definitely left my lady depressed for the rest of the night - a good movie nonetheless. If only Keira Knightley weren't in it, I would say it was excellent - there is something about her that just irks me, even though I normally like thin, athletic, small-breasted women...

And to poke an older post in this thread, Iron Man 2 is a horrible movie, I felt ripped off even though we only paid a dollar at Redbox. I'm not sure why movies like this make so much money, poor plot, ridiculous special effects, subpar acting, whatever... Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

Stop the press! Harrison Ford might be willing to do another Indiana Jones movie. Would the fact that Ford made $65 million from Indiana Jones Part 4 have anything to do with that idea? Is Harrison Ford worth $65 million for appearing in a movie today?

Ford has not been in a hit movie for many years now (with the exception of the Indiana Jones Part 4 movie). He was a huge star, but his popularity peaked years ago. And to pay him that kind of money for being in a movie is ridiculous.

Harrison Ford Would 'Love' To Do 'Indiana Jones 5,' Talks 'Cowboys & Aliens'
Source: Access Hollywood 2 hours, 16 minutes ago

Harrison Ford may play an aging anchorman in his latest film, "Morning Glory," but he's ready to strap on his trademark fedora, grab his leather whip and jump into action for another "Indiana Jones" if he gets the call.

"Oh sure, I'd love to do it," Harrison told Access Hollywood of a possible fifth film in the Indy franchise.

Harrison said that in order to get the action adventure off the ground again, he and producers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg would need to be aligned on where to take the franchise.

"If there's something that the three of us can agree on then I'd love to do it," Harrison continued.

The actor added that one of the Indy triumvirate is currently penning some potential material.

"George is working on something now, but I haven't really seen anything on paper," Harrison said. "We've talked a little bit about it. It would be fun."

In the meantime, Harrison's next adventure film will be the sci-fi film "Cowboys & Aliens," which just wrapped filming and is due out next summer.

"I just finished 'Cowboys & Aliens' with Daniel Craig, directed by Jon Favreau," he said. "It was really a good experience and I had a great time."

Harrison said the project, about a group of settlers and Apache Indians who have to come together when aliens land in town, was something he is proud to be a part of.

"I had thought maybe I'd never get to make another cowboy movie," Harrison said. "They're so rare these days, but this was a really intriguing project and I think it's gonna be very exciting.

"It's a real cowboy movie, looks like a cowboy movie, feels like a classic cowboy movie, and then things happen, and then it goes back to being a cowboy movie with this added element," he continued. "And I think it's the kind of film that there's a real broad audience for. I'm very excited for it. I think it's going to be good."

I've enjoyed most of what Harrison Ford has made throught out his career but Indy his not a role that he can still pull off anymore than he could do Han Solo. Those roles require youth and he's 68 yrs old. At some point your integrity should appear and you would put away the hat and whip and tell George that if he wants to make another Indy film then find a younger actor. I think that's what they had in mind with the introduction of Shia's palying his son in the last film.

Talking about Harrison and George has just reminded me that I read somewhere that there are some rumours that George wants to make a sequel to Return of the Jedi. I know he mentioned for years that he wouldn't do any but
he seem to be exploring the idea. I would much prefer that if he's going to do any sequel to Star wars and the other movies then he should remake Star Wars with new actors and simply continue with these same actors. I really don't want to see Carrie Fisher, Luke Hamill or Harrison Ford reprising their roles. That would be worse that the 3 prequels. Long live the Brown Coats.

I like Ford and I like the first three Indy movies. but the fourth...aliens! I mean, what the fuck?! Who cares how old someone is when it felt like such a ridiculous concept to begin with. Plus Ford's age was more integrated into the plot, so as to be a part of the humor rather than hinder the action.

I wish they had just left it at three films after seeing the last one--it just got to silly, even for Indiana Jones. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I knew I was in trouble the moment I saw Indy survive a nuclear blast because he was in a lead lined refrigerator. Are you kidding? They addressed his age but nowhere like they did for Sean Connery's charater in Indy 3. Sean was 59 when he did Indy and Harrison was 63 when he did Indy 4 but Hrrison certainly didn't act like a 63yrs old. Long live the Brown Coats.

Ever heard of when a TV show "jumps the shark" or really goes down the toilet? Some said that scene is when the Indy series "nuked the fridge." "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? For best actor, Lee Byung-hun from I Saw the Devil and Kang Dong-won from Secret Union were nominated along with Park Hee-soon from A Barefoot Dream, Won Bin from The Man from Nowhere and Jeong Jae-young from Moss.

Separately, the director Lee Chang-dong’s Poetry was excluded from the nomination for the award’s best picture and best director as Lee boycotted the awards and refused to attend the ceremony since 2002. Lee won the best pictures at the awards with his debut film Green Fish in 1997.

But Chosun Ilbo, a conservative South Korean newspaper which hosts the awards, has run into frequent conflicts with Lee when he served as the minister of culture, sports and tourism under a liberal government led by the late president Roh Moo-hyun in 2003. Regardless, actresses Mun Sori and Jeon Do-yeon who starred in Lee’s films were nominated for the awards and attended previous festivals.

“The film Poetry was excluded as Lee strongly expressed through direct and indirect routes that he will not attend the awards ceremony,” the awards’ organizers said in a press release. “But we nominated Yun based on a decision that the awards could not curtail the actor’s rights to her reward regardless of the director and the producer’s political judgment.”

This year’s Blue Dragon Awards ceremony takes place on November 26 in Seoul.

Is it stupid or smart to require viewers to watch an advertisement before they can watch the trailer for a movie? After all, a trailer for a movie is advertisement for the movie. So Yahoo (and other sites) are now making you watch an ad before you can play the trailer for a movie. I used to watch trailers on my PC to get an idea of what the movie is like, but being forced to watch advertisements I don't want to see, means I am going to be much more selective on which movie trailers I will watch.

I wonder how many other people are watching less movie trailers because of the commercials that are required before you can view a movie trailer?

And since Google took over YouTube, you now have to watch an advertisement before you can watch a YouTube clip.

Is there a zapper program that will kill the ads, so you can go directly to the movie trailer or the YouTube clip?

Parts of the conspiracy are being exposed: East coast people who hate L.A. (and perverts from Northern California in the San Francisco/Sacramento regions) have long ago declared war on the beautiful city of Los Angeles. As patriots, we need to fight back, and send nuclear missiles to all regions East, North, and South of us. Since our nearest neighbor to the West is Catalina Island, I believe, and since we enjoy friendly relations with that tiny land-mass, we can save our Weapons of Mass Destruction for the real enemies that are surrounding our beloved city and county.

I live in the county of Los Angeles, not the city, but I urge both county and city residents to work together to destroy our enemies.

Perhaps we can get George Bush to lead this fight, since he did so well in the struggle against the Evil Empire. Or was that Ronald Reagan, who was fighting the Evil Empire? Is Ronny still available somewhere?

Lava, tsunamis, alien invasions: Films bash L.A. (AP)
Source: AP 1 hour, 16 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - This city has the worst luck.

Through decades of disaster films, Los Angeles has been targeted by aliens, toppled by temblors, sunken by tsunamis, leveled by lava, and a rogue tornado once took out the Hollywood sign.

And so it will be that calamity again strikes the City of Angels in the new sci-fi film "Skyline," opening Friday, followed by another bout of destruction early next year in the movie "Battle: Los Angeles."

What is it about L.A. that invites such repeated devastation?

"People love watching Los Angeles get destroyed," says "Battle: Los Angeles" director Jonathan Liebesman. "It's nice to screw up the great weather."

But there's so much more to it than that.

The city is home to Hollywood and the movie business, so the artists who write about, direct and execute mass destruction in Los Angeles are often intimately familiar with the territory.

Production designer Jackson De Govia — who helped blow up the Beverly Center shopping mall and decimate Wilshire Boulevard's museums in 1997's "Volcano" — says he loves trashing his own city on film.

"One of the funnest things you can do in movies is blow stuff up," says De Govia, who also pulverized Nakatomi Plaza in the original "Die Hard." "And if you're blowing up your hometown, and that hometown is Los Angeles, it's even better, because who hasn't wanted to do that at times?"

L.A. is a city filled with internationally recognized landmarks — the Hollywood sign, the Capitol Records building, City Hall and the skyscrapers of downtown — which make for "convenient cinematic shorthand," says Craig Detweiler, director of the Center for Entertainment, Media and Culture at Pepperdine University.

"It allows the scale of the disaster to strike everybody," he says. "Everybody recognizes the Hollywood sign. It's like, 'Oh, that's big.'"

Apart from its landmarks, L.A. is a popular disaster-movie locale because of its geography. Sitting in a seismic zone on the western edge of the continent, it is surrounded by beaches, mountains and deserts. In real life, the city is subject to floods, fires, earthquakes and big waves, so seeing freeways collapse or Santa Monica swallowed up by the sea (as in "2012") isn't such a stretch.

"L.A. can have these multiple functions as an apocalyptic disaster place because it's on the verge between urbanism and nature," Braudy says. "There's a sense of the precariousness of human habitation over this potentially eruptive nature."

Los Angeles is also a city many people love to hate, notes American Film Institute historian Bob Birchard: "L.A. and certainly Hollywood have been associated in some people's minds as a hotbed of the devil's work, so that underlying element is part of the genre."

That notion isn't just implied in 1996's "Escape from L.A.," it's stated: Los Angeles becomes known as the "island of the damned" and "a deportation point for all people found undesirable or unfit to live in the new moral America."

Birchard says the first disaster film was "The Lost World" in 1925, in which London was destroyed. New York took its first on-screen beating in 1933's "King Kong."

Since Los Angeles didn't rise to prominence until after World War II, it wasn't a popular site for annihilation until 1952's "War of the Worlds."

Since then, the city has been subject to all kinds of disasters, both natural and otherworldly, in films such as "Earthquake" with Charlton Heston, "Superman" with Christopher Reeve, and more recently "Terminator," "Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "2012."

Ultimately, heaving destruction on Los Angeles shows Hollywood's sense of humor, sense of optimism and a real love for its sunny, palm-lined home.

Greg Strause, one of the filmmakers behind "Skyline," says the alien-invasion flick was inspired by the breathtaking view from his Marina del Rey condo. The invaders' first target? Movie studios.

"It's a strange coincidence that the motherships, they descend on all the studios first," he says with a laugh. "One's in Culver City. One's in Century City... Those aliens, they have peculiar tastes."

"We barbecue all of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills," adds co-director Colin Strause.

The destruction was achieved digitally at the Strause brothers' own visual-effects firm, Hydraulx. The company also did special effects for "Battle: Los Angeles," another alien-invasion tale as seen through the eyes of one Marine platoon in L.A.

De Govia and his team lovingly rebuilt almost the entire Miracle Mile stretch of Wilshire Boulevard at three-quarter scale for the destruction scenes in "Volcano." They also built the Beverly Center in miniature. Then they blew everything up.

A longtime L.A. resident, he's been moved — literally — by other disaster films set in the city.

He wanted to buy a home near the reservoir in the Hollywood Hills, but decided against it after seeing "Earthquake," in which the reservoir's dam breaks and floods the neighborhood below.

"It's always in your mind," he says. "Dams do break. We see it in movies all the time."

But regardless of the on-screen devastation, there are always a few survivors in these films, along with a message of hope, which USC pop-cultural historian Leo Braudy relates to the West Coast's spirit of optimism — yet one more reason for Hollywood to choose L.A. when doing digital disaster.

"It's kind of hedged, but there's always hope: Hope for change, hope for resurrection," he says. "It's an odd kind of Western optimism: We're going to start over again, like a phoenix rising from its own destruction."

It's cathartic to see people triumph over tough challenges, and it's fun because it's all pretend. Los Angeles may be in ashes, but step outside the theater, and there it is in all its gilded glory.

"L.A. is good at playing itself in film. It's a familiar face," says Detweiler. "Just as we expect Will Smith to rescue the day, we expect L.A. to get blown up and somehow miraculously reappear in the next summer blockbuster."

Aren't you just a tad harsh on the rest of us, lk2fireone? I think it's terribly unfair that you would nuke Canada, for instance, while the real culprits are dwelling in your midst in the form of producers, writers and directors who don't like to think outside their "home town" boxes?
