Never see Webmasters participation in the Users Poll, any reason?

I've perused the rules, laws, bylaws and elsewhere within the nooks and crannies of the whereas-an-wherefores of PU's expectations of its members and those connected, and maybe I simply breezed by the part laying out webmaster's can's and can-do's, but nowhere have I seen anything relating to their participation in the Users polls.
But for the short time I've been a member here, I haven't consciously noticed any markings within our Users' Poll from any of our Webmasters....and I wonder why.

Surely some of the poll questions would address issues that would favorably benefit them, as well as generally giving a respectable boost to the poll's volume. Of course, that would in turn amplify the poll's utility and introduce an added source of welcomed information.

Yes, there is a reason. And as much as I hesitate to say this, I have decided since you posted this, it is time to speak out.

First let me say this: I am a producer of a very small yet progressive pay site. Though it used to be a membership site, I recently made it a clips for sale site because I got tired of all the pay site expectations weighing down my ability to be creative. But that is another story.

I love porn users forums. The reason I love these forums is because I learn so much from you all. But it has been my experience, and as stated to me by other webmasters whether it be polls or threads, most porn forums are not really that webmaster friendly. We get the feeling it is because the forum moderators are concerned about us spamming, but not all of us are interested in spamming. Many are really interested in your opinions and to learn what your needs and desires are so we can create better websites.

I quit commenting on most boards some time ago. As a growing site, I have depended greatly on the opinions and experiences of porn surfers and their experiences as stated on these boards. But when trying to start a thread of my own with the purpose of asking a few questions addressed to the users here, I was not allowed to because I am a webmaster.

Though I still read your threads and take your opinions and experiences into consideration, I quit being active on the boards as I feel my opinions and experiences are not met with acceptance just because I am a webmaster.

Speaking for other webmasters I frequently communicate with, they have voiced their frustrations to me regarding the same issues.

If porn forums wish for us webmasters to be more active, they will have to make it more "Webmaster Friendly" in allowing us to start threads and such. For the time being, most of us read your posts and take your issues into consideration however, few of us are active on the boards or polls because we don't really feel our posts are that welcome.

I would not be remarking on this if the question were not posted. This is a really great forum and would be even more awesome if we could all post and learn from each other. If a webmaster is caught spamming, kick them off. The rest of us who do not engage in this behavior, as well as the porn users of this forum could benefit greatly in our communication with each other. Edited on Jan 08, 2011, 08:39pm

I would like to say that I have always felt welcome here. Anytime I have a question I make a thread and I do not recall a thread of mine ever being blocked or taken down.

As far as the User Polls I always understood them to be just that "User Polls" since Webmasters are not technically users we do not have a place in the polls.

That is just my thought but if I am wrong I am sure someone will let me know. Owner Kick Ass Pictures

Advent,

You are not wrong in anyway. I too have always understood the polls to be just for users. Your point is well taken.

To clarify, In my experience, most webmasters I talk to feel that both polls and posts to forums allow for the same level of webmaster usability. I am not saying my replies to users post on this particular forum are not welcome. Users here have been very gracious in their replies to my posts. I am saying that webmasters should be able to be more active in starting threads to communicate with users.

Let me give you an example. I have a lot of requests to expand my Pics section. I don't know what specs are acceptable in the industry since we have always been just a video site, so I tried to post a thread to ask you all what you thought but couldn't post a thread. I really wanted to know what you Pic lovers thought but couldn't ask you. I couldnt understand why I couldn't post a thread and was told webmaster had limited access to this function.

So I, as many other webmasters I communicate with are frustrated with this issue across the board. It is a valid issue. I depend greatly on the opinions and experiences of users to better my service to those frequenting my site. To not be able to post threads is frustrating as I have so many questions for you all. To not be able to ask you what you desire, is limiting my ability to provide this service for you. If I didn't care about what users want, I would care less to ask.

Advent, you stated you have been able to post threads. Maybe myself and others are just missing something here because I have not figured out how to do it nor have others I have communicated with. And the rules for webmasters state our abilities here are limited, as well as support emails I have received. I would love to straighten this all out. I love these forums. Perhaps a webmaster shouldn't vote in the User Polls, but I am sure they would be welcome to reply to the Poll Question?

I am sure the Webmasters here and at other forums have to be very careful dealing with site owners, and I'm sure the forum rules are to prevent site owners from forum into a mess of self-promotion. While I'm sure a lot of site owners would post topics that were appropriate, many I'm sure would be tempted to use it for promotion. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

I actually made a poll on here for users myself once (Khan I shall make more when I have something valuable to ask)

I come on here for fun and help, why not ask users for help?? Its only right to get a generic response about various things in our industry, this forum is designed for users to vote, cast opinion and various other things. My questions to the porn users here have never been taken down.

Let us not forget that it is also a community here. PU members have always made me feel welcome.

I think they should do BADGES for us webmasters too you know!!! Mistress Kent xx

The Powers That Be do have a book of rules that they work to. In the time I have been here, it has been enforced firmly but sensibly IMO.

I would be surprised if Webmanagers are not allowed to start threads. Sure, the thread content should be monitored for free adverting & spam, but I don't see any reason why they should not be able to ask a legitimate question, & quite honestly, I thought they could.

Several in this thread already for me to answer but I'll start with graymane's initial question.

As it happens, webmasters cannot vote on polls. But, as who voted for what isn't shown, you wouldn't see it if they could vote.

They CAN post replies to polls. If you're not seeing any it's because they're not inclined to participate in the poll issues.

Also, as noted by Mistress Kent, they can suggest poll questions.

Hope that answers your question. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

We don't have any plans for the foreseeable future to add webmaster badges. But out of curiosity, what kind of badges do you think would be appropriate for webmasters here?

Now to Yariana's questions and concerns ...

Hang in there folks, this one is likely to run long. Those not interested in how we look at webmaster participation here at PU are free to skip right over this one. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Ok Yariana, I'll try to address your questions and concerns. But first I need to get us both working from the same page.

Your post in this thread are full of phrases like: "most porn forums", "most porn forums", "on most boards"and "these boards". Well, I can't speak for "most boards" so we need to drop that from the discussion. I can (and am happy to) focus on what we do on *this* forum. FWIW, I think the forum here at PU is somewhat unique among forums frequented by end users of porn. The tone and civility is one I think you'll find unmatched by other forums focused on this subject.

Along those same lines, your posts is chock full of phrases like: "as stated to me by other webmasters", "Speaking for other webmasters", "us webmasters", "most of us", "most webmasters I talk to" and "as many other webmasters I communicate with".

As it happens, I managed a rather popular adult webmaster resource for over a decade so I feel qualified to say, you'd be lucky to get ten adult webmasters to agree on what time it was, much less agree on anything else. While I'll be happy to address *your* questions and/or *your* concerns, please understand I can't address the unnumbered hoards of adult webmasters who may or may not share your concerns.

So, now that we're focused on *your* questions and concerns about *this* forum, I feel it safe to continue.

You say:

I would be interested in seeing those emails. You can forward them to Khan [at] PornUsers [dot] com I would like to see them since I'm generally the one addressing questions related to the forum and I don't recall writing any such email.

Yes, we do limit webmasters. We limit the number of new threads they can create in 24 hours. We also very much limit their wish to promote their sites. The Forum FAQ will address some of the ways webmasters are limited.

You say:

I have to think you're confusing us with some other forum. I see you have posted 33 times (to date) and of those, one post was deleted ... because it was a word-for-word dupe of another post. Dupes happen, we don't sweat them. I delete them as I find them. But, deleting a dupe post is hardly limiting your ability to participate.

Now you say:

Again, I would be most interested in seeing anything sent to you by TBP/PU staff saying you couldn't start such a thread. As it happens, Mistress Kent (a webmaster) started a thread very much along those same lines. See:
Some advice from the experts in porn: Site format

I can also suggest you do some browsing of past polls and forum threads as there are many threads offering advice to webmasters about desirable file formats and sizes.

But getting back to (what I see as) your main gripe ... your inability to start threads.

Is it possible you just don't know the mechanics of starting a new thread?

If that's the problem, it's easy to fix. Just press the orange button in the Forum Threads header. The one labeled " +Add Thread ".

Be aware, ALL accounts, webmaster and User alike, require that their first thread be approved by staff before it displays. This generally doesn't take that long. To be clear, you can still post, it just doesn't show to everyone else until a staffer approves it. That is a feature we have here to curb drive-by spam. For example, I arrived this morning to 58 posts by a new account ... all blatant spam. Needless to say, they were deleted and the user banned. I mention that just to show you why we screen everyone's first thread.

In closing I'll state (for the record) what webmasters who actually participate here have learned for themselves ... We gladly welcome webmasters who wish to participate in a productive (not promotional) way. While there are some limitations placed on webmaster accounts, those restrictions are not such that they would prevent webmasters who are genuinely interested from participating in discussions.

If you ever have specific questions about a post you'd like to make, feel free to email me or the support email address from the "contact us" page.

And please do forward me those emails you mentioned so I can try to clear up the confusion they've obviously caused. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Trust votes for webmasters - thumbs up from me!

There are webmasters, such as Advent and Shap that have been exemplary pros on this site in every way I can think of and it would be nice to have ways to recognize that - and totally in keeping with the nature of this site

I'm really pleased that this thread might've struck a cord, in the sense it appears to have opened the door to some answers, as well as awakend significant input heretofore napping in Porn User and Webmaster limbo.

But, to be honest, so far it hasn't spawned near the amount of response I expected. I was hoping it would spark a more enthusiastic rapport and, more importantly, debth of communication amongst the PU bodies.

The real overall purpose of this thread to begin with was to convey my observation concerning the absence of webmasters responding, and their posting in our User polls. I see this as a welcomely hefty shot of adrenaline to a somewhat enemic feature.
So c'mon, webmasters, now that you've gotten season tickets to have your say in our polls.....get crackin'!

I just think it would be nice if there was something we could earn for participating. Must be a girl thing, we like rewards Mr.Khan.

Like the chatterbox badge or "nice web-master" badge, or "good participant"

I'd be happy then, or just the "Trust" ratings.. that would be rather excellent. Mistress Kent xx

Sorry... but I jumped the gun and in my eldery haze, during one of the many breaks my brain takes without warning, I inadvertently posted on another thread, dealing with "webmasters", my thoughts regarding the very subject you're inquiring about here, and having to do with recognitional awards. Jus' pop over there, if you will, and see if you can catch what I posted.

*I'm* not going to get into a protracted discussion of this one despite you and some users continued efforts to make it a topic for discussion. You are welcome to discuss it among yourselves, just don't be put off if staff isn't drawn into those discussions.

I regret not being able to make you happy. We get so few chances in life to really make someone happy that I hate to pass one up. Still ...

Currently, we don't even give Users badges for forum participation so it's unlikely (at this time) that we'd start giving something special to webmasters for that participation.

And as far as Trust Ratings ... (not to flog a dead horse or anything)

Despite some users thinking of them as a vote of "personal trust", they are not, nor have they ever been an indicator of a person's personal trustworthiness. They are an indicator of how much a particular user's experiences (as stated in their reviews) will be shared by fellow users. Understanding that context, you can see where they are not appropriate for webmasters. BTW, I mention flogging a dead horse with this one because the "real" meaning of Trust Ratings has been discussed (at length) in Announcements, in polls and in a number of other forum threads.

Webmasters can (and do) earn points. For details see the bottom of the page at: https://www.pornusers.com/profile_points.html

While I won't rule out that we'll add some sort of badge for webmasters in the future, it's not among the plans for the immediate future. Sorry.

That is not to say that we don't value the participation by you and other webmasters ... we do. And, we feel it is mutually advantageous. Hope you feel likewise despite the lack of a badge. We would hope that webmasters wouldn't feel slighted by the lack of badges but rather remember, PornUsers is, by its very design, focused on the end users. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Sorry, Chief....

Just want to say that I take full blame for this thing by mindlessly ignoring my better judgement.

I guess I got carried away with the volume of favorable response I was getting for my thread from our participating webmasters that I went overboard to show my appreciation.

MistressKent had the good sense and presence of mind to drop this subject after you made your point clear the first time.

However.....

Assuming the role of hero, yours-truely just had to reignite things by tossing fresh kindling on a dying amber.

Had I known, though, this self-motivated act of support was creating tensions upstairs, you can bet the farm I'd of used my brakes.
