Help Wanted

1) More female PU comments, reviews and participation in the Forum. Studies show there is a strong representation of women who watch and enjoy porn. On PU we have never had more than a token female here or there. The welcome shown to them has been very warm and respectful. It doesn't matter if your interest is heterosexual or lesbian, as we have had both here.

2) That goes for gay participation as well. I only recall two gay porn reviewers in the seven years I have been here. I realize it is tough to be a minority, but you are and have been most welcome and treated very fairly.

3) Interactive participation by Web site owners, or for that matter other porn professionals. You have a unique perspective and insight that we need. I understand that many are here for site promotion, but I am talking about adding to the conversation.

4) Of course we always need new participation from anyone who is interested.

I hope this thread reaches out to fill our needs and helps create a stronger PU.

I know it's been a while, but this is important, and I'd like to bump it, if that's ok. I suppose a mod can undo my bump if I've made a mis-step.

This is still, to my knowledge, the most civilized discussion forum on the Internet. And I've been ALL over. Quite extraordinary that one should find the most civility and rationality on a porn site.

This thread is from a year ago and is still apropos.

Anyone who is willing to get involved here is needed. We have lots and lots more members who never get their voices heard.

Great idea to start and then bump this thread. I'd also like to see more of what mbaya suggests.

I haven't reviewed for a while, but so many of the sites I wrote reviews for are sadly no longer listed, and I can't seem to get any that appeal to me listed.

I love PU but the gay sites listed here generally are a little too mainstream and run-of-the-mill for me.

It can be daunting to try and do reviews. Many of the most active members do a lot of reviews and they are of very high quality. I remember writing my first review and having the daunting task of trying to write an informative and detailed review.

Also, like any other site, participation here requires time that many people cannot afford to spend. Similarly, to write a review you need to be a member of a site, and cost may be prohibitive for some people.

I too would like to see more participation by the porn collecting community, of all genders and orientations, but let's cut people some slack. "A man talking sense to himself is no madder than a man talking nonsense not to himself."

^ One thing I recommend for writing reviews is to write them in Word first. That way you can spend more time and it is safer in case the site crashes. I'll often write a review over a period of several days and then give it a final edit before posting it. I also make it a point to watch a lot of the porn from a site before I write the review. That way the review is better informed about the type and quality of the scenes rather than just being about the site itself.

For better or worse, I tend to follow a formula when writing a review. I write about the kind of porn that is offered and any themes that the site may have. I follow with the specs on the site, such as the number of scenes and navigation. I note the file specs. I usually only download one resolution to keep but I'll sample the others and report on those specs too for readers who may prefer a different resolution. I'll mention some of the smaller details like TBP discounts, download speeds, support for download managers, the biller and stuff like that. Then I'll wrap up with an assessment of value (obviously somewhat subjective) and whether I'd recommend the site and what kinds of collectors might be interested in it.

So while I agree that writing your first reviews can be a bit daunting I think most readers here will respect an honest attempt at writing a thorough review. The bug advantage we have here is having the perspective of people who are average porn collectors. That works well mixed with the 'professional' reviews that may be less of a deep dive.

Reviews are fairly easy to write. I basically include the amount of content and its quality. Does the site update and does the consumer receive a lot of bang for their buck?

Reviews can be simple like mine or complex. I read most of them and like all the styles so far. There have been a few that lacked any sort of detail which I wanted to comment about. However, I don't feel like I should comment on what others write (unless positive). There are more senior reviewers who have earned that right than me.

I am a gay reviewer and have noticed there are many who write reviews on fetish and niche sites which most may not be into. It makes me feel welcome as we know there are others who are into what we are into. My main goal is to tell a possible new customer what makes a site worth joining...or not. That sums up what most reviews should be.
Except that some reviewers, like mbaya, for example, can make their reviews not just complete, but easy to read, and with good details that give the flavor of the site.
Some reviews are not just instructive, but a pleasure to read.
(I can't write reviews like that: it takes talent, plus time and patience to write them.)

Even though we don't or can't write gem-like reviews, I think a lot of reviews are instructive, giving the reader a general idea of the pros, cons, and bottom line (see how easily I remember the basic form of the review--I think my mind is slipping down the slope of old age).
LOL.

I think this is worth restarting. Please feel free to suggest other ways to get new participation.
