Rowling about a young wizard and his friends has been taken off library shelves at St. Edward Catholic School in Nashville because the school's pastor believes the books' magical spells are real. Rev. Dan Reehil, the pastor of the school serving kindergarten through eighth grade, removed the books from circulation because of "recommendations of exorcists in United States and Rome," according to CNN on Tuesday. "These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true," Reehil said in an e-mail originally published by the Tennessean on Saturday. "The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells, which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the texts." Rebecca Hammel, superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, confirmed that Reehil's email about removing the books is real, and says that while the Catholic Church doesn't have an official position on the Harry Potter books, the school's pastor has the final say, according to the Tennessean and CNN. St. Edward Catholic School, Hammel, Reehil and Rowling didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. The school's move might surprise fans, but it's worth noting that the Harry Potter book series tops the list of most challenged books in the United States in the 21st century, according to The American Library Association. Challenges are defined as formal, written complaints filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness. | |

Harry Potter is far from evil, plus it's fiction. Nobody is conjuring up evil spirits from the spells J.K. Rowling created. Are we really going to start book burning again? What year is this? Harry Potter has so many important lessons for young people and it's a great series, so it's their loss! | |

I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons since 1980, and there was a big controversy about Satanism in D&D going on. Then it was Satanism in heavy metal music. Now it's Satanism in Harry Potter books. I remember playing D&D in college, and the cute young girls who lived across the hall were very religious and told me they prayed my soul wasn't going to go to Hell. I politely informed them that in my D&D group was an ordained minister and two Mormon missionaries. I asked if they'd pray for them too. Loki, I could tell from your avatar that you were drawn to the dark side. But with prayers from the PU community, I feel that you will be saved. And maybe the prayers from the young gals in college also helped. We need all the help we can get, from the evil forces that are creeping into this world of ours. Donald Trump is the Anti Christ, and we must unite to resist him and his demonic horde. Praise be to Allah and any other leaders of the true and righteous faiths. Too bad Harry wasn't around in the 60s and 70s. Those kids could of made spells to protect themselves from getting beaten, put into servitude and having their babies stolen off them by the nuns, and getting raped and molested by the priests. | |

There are literally thousands of religions, so which version of a supreme being should I follow to save my soul? Maybe hell will be nice. At least there probably won't be any elections there.
