So, about downloading a whole site.. I've seen some members talk about "downloading a site" and such, and it taking days at times. I've never dealt with download managers nor have I ever done anything like this. My questions isn't how to do it, however, but what do you do with all of it? For example, I just spent the last 2 hours going through my hard drive of stuff (which is already selectively downloaded from sites) deleting the stuff that I will never watch or look at again. But with an ENTIRE site worth of material, what do you do with it all? Go through it later or just keep it? That's a lot of hard drive space isn't it?

I have done that with a few sites (like Shay Laren, for example) where the babe is hot and the site is very small. In her case, the objective was to drain the site and close the account, then edit down the crap. Most of her stuff was great except the excessive duplication of shots (where I used my delete key quite frequently). I've thought about it with large sites, like Brazzers, but instead I've just drained all content for a specific model. FTV Girls is a site that has tempted me to drain 'em all because it has what I like...but the site is too large as a result of the excessively long shots of the same action (10 minutes of dildo insertion with the babe oooh-ing and ahhh-ing and perhaps moving a few inches being the only substantive change can get rather tedious). In that case I'm storing on DVD and have been watching the scenes and copying only what I really like to my external hard drive. The psychology is that, if I pass on something that I really should have loaded to my hard drive, I always have the CD backup. As for regular sites, like Twistys and Babelicious, storage space on externals is now not a very expensive deal with first rate 500Gb hard drives available for $90 so the temptation is to load it all and plan on getting another hard drive in case the current one fills up.

I don't know if I've ever downloaded the entire content of a website, but let's say for argument sake that I have. Your question is what do you do with it. The simplest answer is you store it on a hard drive or any other kind of storing media. To be enjoyed at your leisure. I love to read. Therefore I have many books. Some books I've read once, and may never read again. Those I traded in, but there are some that I've read many times. Same thing applies with porn. You store it and if it's something you really like you probably will want to watch it again. The rest is usually deleted. Long live the Brown Coats.

I recently DL'd about half of Brazzers. 1.because it was worth it, and 2. I wanted to see if I could...and yes, it took over 8 labor hours I figure spread over 3 days. Got all of it on about 100 G's. Should have taken up more space somehow, but ave. file size was 250MB I figure. That's 400 files.

I am a download the whole damn site fan. And yes it takes a lot of hard drives to keep doing that, I literally have 31 3.5 inch drives that will attest to that. Shooterbo, I do not mean to shoot you down, but you are not going to get half of Brazzers on a 100 GB drive. Brazzers network is closer to 700 GB. A couple months ago I had a little over 600 GB from them. Me personally I never delete what I download. This does cost a good bit of money to store. But my thought is that I have already paid to download it and I never know when I might want to see that scene again. Besides I am a hopeless collector. I have downloaded all the content from Mc-Nudes, Twistys, Met-art, Nubiles, Abby Winters, Sapphic Erotic, Infocus Girls, BangBros Network,Simon Scans, ALS Scans, FTV, and truly countless others at some point in time. I am working on Reality Kings and I do have 95% of Brazzers. Some of these sitesI need to update with though. Also I have several TB from Videobox. Most sites I download manually using a manager. I click and the manager queues up the download. Site grabbers are not the most effective way to get a site. They have a tendency to either download way too much of the same content, or simply miss a bunch. I would say I easily have 1000 hours over the past year and a half queuing up downloads. I can't imagine downloading an entire site the size of DDF, but there are some sites that are young and thus still small so I can see someone downloading one of these. But it would have to be a very good site for me to download the whole thing. I have yet to find a site the I would want to do this with. I am choosey and pick what I like. Warning Will Robinson

I have a few sites that I have downloaded the entire site. Eve Angel's site, I have all of it, it is around 120 GB, with about 75 GB being just of Eve. I have the whole Anette Dawn site that is now part of Twisty's network, but it isn't very big, about 13 GB. Just looking at my files, I have a pretty large Videobox folder of 200 GB, but that is only my favorite models and all of their scenes. Same way with Club Sandy and Pix and Videos, my file on those two is around 110 GB, but it is just maybe 10 models. My obsession, um collection, is more based around having every piece of content of certain models that I can find. I like to think my hard drives are fairly modest. I have a 500 GB Western Digital, a 1 TB Western Digital, two 500 GB Lacie's and two 300 GB Seagates. Plus the 500 GB internal. I think it is about time to buy one more 1 TB one. Eventually I have to run out of hard drive space, time or money ha ha! Sounds like a Pink Floyd lyric! My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I cannot fathom having that many ext. drives connected to the same pc.....do you? I only have one external and am ready for a second, but after connecting will it become automatically a part of the system as easy as the first did? I have 1G of ram, with 2 small internal add-on drives and one 120G external.

Shooterbo, what extocis does it very realistic. Chech out the forum called "computer setup" and see what some other people are doing. I have personally had more hard drives fail than most people own. At this point I have 31 drives and most of them are external connected through SATA. Exotics's 3.2 TB system would be a fairly modest in size. You can fit a good bit of porn in that amount of space. I believe the following list contains my my collection, I did not count again, but I think it is up to date. 1x160 GB 1x250 GB 1x120 GB 1x300 GB 2x400 GB 6x320 GB 12x500 GB 7x750 GB 1x1000 GB Yes, if you connect a second drive it will give you no issues. It will act pretty much the same as the first one does. That's my one problem. I have a 500 Gb hard drive that is ready to quit (sometimes accessible, usually not) so I am moving what I can to a good hard drive. But when you say you have had several failures, did you lose all you had on those drives or were you able to recover your stashes somehow?

One drive, 750 GB Seagate, sounded like it had a bearing drop on its first start up, so no data lose. I had two Western Digitals go bad, both mechanical function but the data is not accessible and it shows the format as RAW and can not be reformatted. Both of these just had stuff I recorded off of TV on the, so o major data lose. Some time ago I also had a RAID set fail, lose of data. I was using Maxtar Maxline 3 drive, but the failure was actually because of a power wire that was cut in an extremely hard place to see. I discovered the bad wire too late. Very early this year I had issues with good drives simply not showing up anymore. Those drives had to be reformatted and then the data had to be recovered. This has made a huge mess out my organization because some of the data recovered was deleted or moved to other drives but never actually wrote over. But, I have never lost any of my porn stash to drives going bad. I have been lucky so far. After those drives where reformatted they have operated just fine. Well, I've downloaded "whole sites," or at least most of them. Terabyte external drives are wonderful things, but format externals first with NTFS if you're running Windows -- I've seen FAT32 unreliability. Personally, I'm into "pictures," and not so much into "videos." I "save the keepers," and delete at least 90% of what I download -- but I save the zip files, or the originals for any neanderthal site that doesn't offer zip files. Zip files and originals eventually get archived onto DVD-R discs. I sure haven't got the kind of storage mentioned above, but it's not hard to get an external drive and plug it in -- you have to start somewhere. Also, since I'm not too video-intensive, that probably saves me from several more terabytes of downloaded stuff.

The one 500Gb drive that crapped out for me was made by Acomdata. I have several made by Iomega that remain totally reliable.

Wow, I feel like a nubie. I have a 750 Hd and a ext 750 hd I have a few 80's laying around and 120 but not for porn. How the heck do you sort a collection like that. I was thinking how long it would take to collect that much wow. I wish I had half that amount. PS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I read some articles before buying my externals, they recommend that powering them down when not in use. I have mine on a power strip and power them off when not in use, I also download videos to my main drive first then copy it to the externals. Its all about heat. The more heat the least amount of time the drive lasts. If you have your externals in a cabinette open the door when running it, I am hooking up two smnall pc fans in mine to keep it cool when running. I got this advice from other porn collectors they say a hot external drive kept on will kill it. because they are closed in. Make sure you turn off the indexing on the externals and do not network them in unless there is no choice. And keep them off when not using. As the pc still will send info at times via usb through some other software spyware checkers , virus checkers etc, keeping the drive active so turn it off when not using them. I only keep 2 drive actively running. I am looking into some better cooling for them as well. I also keep the my externals on a couple power strips, and off 99% of time. I can not say that anything is more reliable than others, they are made by the same people anyway. It is all about the bearings inside the drive. They need to be kept cool as they will last longer. But all bearings fail at some point. So it is not if your drive fails, it is when? Sorting can take awhile! It was not too bad until I had some drives act up and I recovered them. I ended up with some double stuff. Basically what I do is sort everything by website. It makes updating a little easier. I do not have much issue remember what came from where, but I tend to rename stuff a lot to include the models name. To collect that much....it takes a great deal of time! I spent 4 hours or so 4 times a week on a really good connection. That helped, at first it was pretty slow coming, but over about 2 years my daily intake grew from 500 MB up 100 GB. This all came by using download managers and using pay sites instead of freebie TGP. I started of with the old right click and save as method. As time moved on I found better ways and better sites. Now I do it all from home. I bring in 30-32 GB per day, every day off of my DSL. The biggest problem with a collection this sized is that is costs a good bit of money to build and keep. Granted hard drives are getting cheaper, it is still expensive. Have to pay for the drives and the site membership. I remember paying like $200 for a 400 GB external and like $140 for my first 160 GB. Iomega is selling a 320Gb for $59.95 on their website. It's a refurb. As for indexing, after a few false starts, I've gone to using the Babe's name at the primary level, then the site, then the video. That way I have everything for the babe in one place and can spot duplications easily. The Drives are assigned alphabetically by Model's first name. So far the system seems to work well.

I have been seeing 500s for about that price. Even not on sale you can get them for $80, which is still a better deal assuming you are looking for size. I have been seeing $65 500s refubs on ebay as well. Also, Dell has a deal going for TB Seagates for $110. Sounds like a decent method to use as well. Once I get a good amount of timeI would like to use a dual index to be able to sort by site and by model name. But that will be a while down the road. Toadmix, there are a few threads all about that. Check them out there is some good information in them. Personally I use Internet Download Manager and Download Them All. Most of what I do I use IDM. Go to downloads.com and try a few different managers out. They do not charge you to download anything and most things there give at least a free trial. Try a few out and see what your download style needs in a manager. DownThemAll! is a good one - it's a Firefox addon that can be found at the Firefox site. I use Linux, so often use wget and when sites don't have zip sets, I use curl.

Download Them All is nice because it can get images and other things in places were other managers can not because it is integrated into the browser, so no log in issues at all. The problem here is that it does not actually manage anything. It is not useful for scheduling downloads or having multiple download queues. Personally I use Download Them All as a last resort, since it has to be initiated page by page, and this is a pain if the image gallery is several pages long. Other managers do have advantages. Download Them All is very useful, but if you want something truly useful on many aspects you will need to not be cheap and actually pay for something. Consider to cost of a normal month membership to a site, this is how much the manager is that you will use for years to come. And you will use it on more than one site. Some of use spend well over $1000 per year on sites and even more on storage, so what is $35 on a manager to make life so much easier and help you download all the content you are paying top dollar for? You are right, of course. Do you have any D/L managers in mind at prices of $30 to $50 that do everything? (I'm OK, generally, with the one that comes with the plain vanilla Mozilla browser but am always interested in efficiency. I loaded Downthemall and tried it out but don't see any advantage over the default manager.)

Internet Download Manager does most things for you. I would really recommend just going to downloads.com and using some of the trials they offer for various managers. They have a description of each on, so look for on that suits your needs the best. Download Them All is useful for when you have a whole gallery you want to download, it just saves you from having to do the right clack and save routine 50 times assuming you want the whole gallery. If you only want a small handful of files than it will not do you any major favors. You just need to find what balance of automation and accuracy you want. I can automate the download of an entire site, but it will not do it the same way I would if i did it manually. It would end up either missing things or downloading the same video in different formats and sizes. The managers are not AI and they will not think for you or like you. The main use I have for them is simply to manage the timing of downloads and keep a steady pace so that it is not trying to download 800 things at a time but has enough to last all day. It simply makes me more comfortable to leave the computer and do other things, sleep, work and so on. I would agree with that, but it's not too bad. If each imagine on several pages is a proper link to a real image, then one can accomplish that task rather quickly. If it's something a little more complex than that, I just use curl. Being on Linux, my options for download managers are a little more limited, but I seem to do okay. Depending upon the site, I'll use wget and curl, but DownThemAll! works for most things I do. I've gotten all of ALS Scan using wget and all of nubiles with a combination of DownThemAll! and wget.

Fortunately the download manager usually works the way I want it to for must sites. But there have been a few that have been a total pain to get. Playboy is one of those site. I am also working on the ZIPs from Hungarian honeys which is being less than easy. This site is requiring me to use an interesting combination of a keyboard remapper, excel, text, word, yahoo, and my normal manager. Otherwise it is a lot of extra clicking and waiting, not that this way is not a lot of clicking and waiting the way it is. The site makes you wait a few extra seconds before the zip file shows up making it difficult to us a whole site grabber, and when you click to a gallery you have to click another link to go to another page to get the zip. The link to the next page must be chased down the screen as the photos load up. So I have found a way around this part at least. It would be nice, but the problem is that we all seem to use different managers and are looking for different things. Some sites I can download from with the manager but it does not do do a good job. One example is with a site I am working on now if i click the link for the zip it give me a nicely named file, but there is a lot of clicking going on. Now if I use the manager to grab all the zips at once it save a lot of clicking, but the nice name goes away and is replaced with "zip_34" for example. That sounds like a bit of a pain. I hate it when sites are like that. As I've said before, the flash-based sites really annoy me, particularly when it comes to trying to get pics. Does Windows have curl or any equivalent? It works rather nicely if you just want to grab an entire set of pics. I find that handy if: first, the pics links can actually be found without great difficulty; two, if the zip files are a nightmare (especially if they're split up); three, if the gallery is rather large. You just enter the command on the command line and it takes care of the rest. I find a site like Nubiles has almost the best setup for downloading zip sets. I wish other sites would do the same thing.

I agree with what badandy400 said. It's a good idea, but it depends upon what means by DLM compatible. Like he said, some sites work with DLMs, but butcher the filenames. Others work well, but let you download only one stream at a time, which precludes you from even browsing the site while downloading one file - inthecrack is an example of a site that does this, but is otherwise wonderful. Other sites say DLM use is prohibited, but have given me no problems when using them. Others encourage their use. Only the flash-based sites have ever caused me grief. Every other site has allowed me to set up queues, even if I had to do some fiddling. With DownThemAll!, curl, and wget, I can usually find something that works.

Nubiles is a nice site and downloading is pretty easy from them. I did not like the way they named their zips files though. I like things to always have the models name in it to make it easier to find once it is on my hard drive. How many zip files named "dress" do I need, and how will I tell which is which? Nubiles was the site I found a nice way to rename things easily with minimal clicking for me and no typing at all. I agree that the naming scheme used on Nubiles gets a bit repetitive, but it doesn't bother me much. You noticed the "dress" one; I noticed how many "kitchen" sets there are. In any event, I just download each model's sets into one directory with her name, then unzip each set into a separate subdirectory. Wget or DownThemAll! works great there. I just use a shell script to unzip, and I'm away. I find Nubiles to be about the perfect site for zip set naming. They're numbered chronologically, so a date incorporated into the filename is unnecessary. Since I download each model into separate directories, I don't miss the model name, although it would be nice; I agree. The high resolution sets indicate that in the filename, which is great for organizing, too. I suppose if we wanted to have the perfect site for ripping, they would have ideal file names for their zips, including name, date, and a brief description, and have them all on one page so something like DownThemAll! could go to town, but that might be a little unwieldly for some.

Firewire is an alternative to USB. Most (all?) hard drives that offer firewire connections also have USB connections.

I am expecting a new docking system today that will allow hot swapping of my HD and I p\u 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300. To add to my 750 internal and external and my 120 swapper not sure what to do with the 120g maybe use it for pics. I went with free download manager seems to work fine and fast. I will try a few sites out after these current ones expires. Since 2007

Shooterbo, dont worry about Firewire, that is mostly a Mac thing anyway. Even if you would get something that was Firewire only you can cheaply get a PCI Firewire controller off Ebay anyway. Actually some of the Firewire connections are getting pretty fast anyway. Toadmix, it is always fun to get new toys in the mail. Kinda like a porn addict's Christmas morning. 120 GB is good space, you can fit a reasonably size site on there. "And keep them off when not using. As the pc still will send info at times via usb through some other software spyware checkers , virus checkers etc, keeping the drive active so turn it off when not using them." Question: I've been running my 500GB external pretty much steadily since I got it about nine months ago. Reading this thread, I copied all of my current folders to my internal drive and want to shut the external down and use it only for storage. BUT: when I click the "safely remove hardware" icon and go through the steps, it tells me I cannot turn the device off at this time, and to please try again later. I've cleared all temp files and am getting the same response. Is there a way I can safely unplug the external despite this message? You know what I hate the most about selfish people? Try rebooting and then clicking the "safely remove hardware" ... that'll usually fix the problem. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator Now at: MyPorn.com "To get your ideas across use small words, big ideas, and short sentences."-John Henry Patterson

Actually I did that and when I tried to remove again, I got the message: "Generic device f cannot be closed because a program is accessing it." So I rebooted again, and cleared all temp files, etc, and this time I could safely remove the drive. Thanks, Khan You know what I hate the most about selfish people? Thank you badandy....this might not be allowed here, but I am looking for a vendor who sells ext. HD's at bargain basement prices, even if refurbished...will take the risk.

Tons of them available on EBay. I've bought several and have had only one go bad. Be careful, though. Hard drive enclosures are listed as well so make sure you read the details carefully. Also watch the P & H charges.

I have a number of hard drive enclosures that I am looking to sell. They only have a SATA connection though. This is much faster than USB, but is only useful, if you have SATA ports open. These enclosures do not come with hard drives of course, but I am looking to get sell them cheaply if that is something you are looking for. Let me know exactly what are you looking to do, I have done many things so far with physical drive setups and might be able to save you a lot of money and headache. If you are only looking to connect one or two drives you might be best to pay a little more and get the USB enclosures. If you are looking to connect a small army of drives then I would be glad to throw a few pointers to you. Installed two cooling fans for the ext.hds today so when they are running in the cabinet it runs smooth, that and to help when I am playing BattleFiled2,on my pc, and another extra fan inside over the dual hd's. I have a Quadcore (2.85g x4) 512 video 8 gigs ram Vista64 Media with massive ports and plugs from etc sata, to fire wire and cable satellite inputs. 22in Lcd hd wide, two 100watt sub woofers, so playing music or battlefieled its like your there. Its a monster and insanely fast so guess I am set for now. Taken awhile to get my system to where it is buit think I am set. So next toy should be ?? Suggestions? I love toys. LOL Toadmix. Toadmix. The next step is building a porn server for yourself. The cheap way is to buy a cheap case with lots of 3.5 bays, a power supply, and a SATA controller card for your current PC. And do all the hooking up. When it is all said and done you have a easy way to keep all your porn together and accessible by your seemingly strong computer only when you need it. This way all you gotta do is hit the power switch on the PSU wait a few seconds and you are ready to get to everything. Best part of it is you can do all this for the cost of two or three enclosures. Nope, you would not be looking at another motherboard, cpu, ram and all that. For this you simply need a power supply, an optional case( keeps things neater and safer), and possibly a controller card your your current pc. I have hard drives being powered by a separate power supply than the rest of my computer. So all I have to do is hit the switch on the power supply and they all come on, and of course I can leave all of them off when I am not using them saving drive life and heat from the room. Other than the hard drives, which you need anyway to support your porn addiction, the controller card would be the most expensive part. Any cheap ass computer case would do. If you look on ebay you can find a 4 port PCI SATA controller for about $20. I have four of them in one computer. I also have a 16 port card in another. The only problem is that it makes your case pretty messy with wires. Basically when it is said and done, you have a case with a power supply and stuffed with hard drives. And you just run the SATA cables to your normal computer. Granted this is messy, it can be made to look much neater if you are willing to pay a little more. The neatest way to go is a NAS server, but that gets expensive in a hurry. You could have the set up ready to go for under $200 pretty easily. If you have any of the components laying around then it is even cheaper. Possibly less than $100 if you find good deals. I have a few pc cases and even a 1.8gig pc no drive sitting in my garage but has case and all and would hold about 5 drives if I remove the CD rom. I see what you are saying now just make a case to power and hold the drives. run a sata from one to my ext sata on my new pc. Ok hey thats good idea and woud save all these drives laying around plugged into ports. Cool thanks for the help on this. Since 2007

One last trick though. You will need to trick the power supply into powering up with out a motherboard present. Power supplies do not do this by default. Below is a nice little walk through on how to do that in case you did not already know. http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/196/1 This does work, hell I have one running like that right now. Thanks Again, I bet I could use my old case I had that 1.8 in. I have used power supplys before externally to power hobbys but this is good. Only problem is I have spend allot of time and money taking a nice desk and concealing all the electronics, not sure where I would put another pc at. I may need to make a custom box with a sata card and power supply , but that sounbds like a fun project. PS found a nice 400watt with case under 40.00 nice media case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...Item=N82E16811164098 I think I will do this ist small and can conceal in a small spot Since 2007 Edited on Sep 04, 2008, 11:14am

That is a pretty nice deal. I just paid $60 for a new power supply too, well it has a $30 rebate though. That case and PSU would work pretty well for anyone with only a small handful for drive they are looking to connect up, you should be able to get 5 in there which is not bad for $50 shipped. This case is pretty small and discreet, it is only 5.3" tall and 14" deep. Much smaller than my Antec 900. Smaller would be nice for hooking up since the SATA wires could be several inches shorter. I would suggest finding a way to mount a fan or two to blow across the drives though to keep them nice and cool. Nice find Toadmix. I may have a slight problem, while my new pc and 2 internal drive are sata, and one external is, two externals are ide. Building a case with and iDE too would be hard as I would need a ide controller card in my new pc. not sure I want that. hmm thinking, dont want to start spending huge amounts of money.
