More Internet Porn Stats

Though this has come up before in various other posts, here's another rehash of some interesting stats about the internet and porn:

All I can say in regard to all those stats is ....

Great post as usual.

Utah leading the subscription rate is quite a surprise to me, or perhaps not.

I think that the unwanted exposure to porn rate has to be higher.

I find it hard to believe that 13% of the female population watches porn on-line, and even harder to believe that they would admit to do so.

I'm still evaluating this numbers. Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.

Thanks Wittyguy, these are always fun to read.

Did the publisher of the stats have a definition of "porn"? These stats could have different meaning depending on how broad/narrow that definition is.

For instance, in #8 I wouldn't consider "adult dating" to be porn.

Yeah, isn't that what people do as an alternative to porn? "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Thanks, WG, these really put a smile on my face.

Some interesting and funny stats, whether or not they are even remotely accurate;

- Over $3,000 every second?! And nearly $5 billion worldwide, with half of that in the U.S.? I sure hope there's an economist or two somewhere deep in an office who make sure that the porn revenues keep flowing because that sounds crucial to our economic stability. And where the hell is the porn industry's bailout? I've kept some of my porn longer than many people have kept their crappy cars!

- 40 million Americans are "regular visitors" to porn sites. Million? So shouldn't PU be much, much larger than it currently is? At least by a couple million, though that would probably require like ten Khans and I'm not even sure he would consent to being cloned.

- The Thanksgiving thing I can understand because the last thing I want to do after choking down some turkey and stuffing whilst hanging out with my family is look at porn. I prefer a strong dose of NyQuil and an early bedtime. That and maybe a lot of people are traveling and it's really hard to watch porn and drive at the same time or even fly in a plane without getting hassled by a stewardess (just check out the link in my sig).

- Sunday is the most popular day of the week? Well, it is the day of rest... "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hardcore Commie works." - Gen. Jack D. I can't find the stats now, but I read a few weeks ago that the money spent on porn in Europe was 20% more than the US last year (which is relatively low given the vastly larger population of Europe). Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

More great stuff Wittyguy. Makes us feel a little more normal around here.

I'm not surprised - porn is here to stay...
But how did this 'OnlineSchools' make this survey? - well, it's still fun...
BTW: That Utah-deal - are we going to hear something about religion there - maybe? And maybe something with teenagers/adults being suppressed due to some religion or the other...
Anyway, pretty interesting thread. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Maybe it's not known worldwide that Utah is pretty much considered a Mormon state - the land of the one of the most straightlaced people ever. Yeah - that Utah figure struck me as funny as hell. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Great post.

I love the Utah part. Not surprised at all. I heard they have a "porn czar" there to help enforce laws against pornography.

Not buying the part about women viewing online porn. I have no idea what lesbians do, but straight women are not regular porn viewers.

Apparently they had one from 2001 to 2003, but scrapped her job due to budget cuts. Gee, even I could have warned Utah going after porn was a waste of money. Not surprisingly the czar was a Mormon (but who in power isn't there?), though I guess it was never a conflict of interest. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? 24 million sites, with 28 thousand people viewing porn at any given time. That's a lot of sites no one is looking at.

But conversely, that's 24 million sites and 678 thousand man-hours spent watching them. And if you factor in their average visit length, then there are about 6 and a quarter million porn site visits a day.
