Porn Users and Characteristics Hey! I'm currently conducting a research and would like to use a sample of Internet pornography users to take a closer look at some of their characteristics. I would be tremendously grateful if I could borrow 10 minutes of your time : http://goo.gl/forms/xEMyNhGWZB Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone, I have decided to let this post stay in case any PUers were interested in participating. I will say, though, that if anyone has any problems with these kinds of posts, please let me know and I will deal with it accordingly. Happy Monday!

This is hosted through google. Google does track everything. Use a vpn or such if you wish to keep at least somewhat anonymous. The questions are a bit invasive and repetitive. I would love to hear what Mr exotics4me has to say about this study. They said 10 minutes, that time is about right. Read the questions carefully, they tend to flip flop. "Do you like porn"/"do you DISlike porn" sorta thing. I will also say that one question asks you if you have broken a fairly serious law in many lands. "Have you come across illegal porn", or something to that effect. Asking people to admit something illegal does not seem to me a way to get a fair representation. Especially not knowing the entire context of the question. Illegal could mean anything from pirated videos on torrents, uncensored porn from Japan, to under age porn. The first they might send you some hate mail. the second no one cares about in the USA, and the final comes with sometimes nasty prison terms. Just my thoughts friends. Perhaps I am being paranoid. "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~ PU Interview

Hello Badandy400. I understand your concern, and need to tell you that I chose Google's form just because it was the easiest method for me, compared to other survey sites, but if you prefer, it is of course an option to answer through a VPN. The questions are indeed a bit repetitive, but these questionnaires have been shown to have both high validity and reliability, and that's why they have been chosen for this particular study. Concerning the question you are referring to, it is asked if you "have come across", intinutating that it was not necessarily a conscious act, nor does it state what kind of content you might have consulted. I have purposely excluded questions asking about illegal material on a deeper level, as I do not wish this to be unethical in any way. As I have stated in the invitation letter and consent form, this is of course completely voluntary, so I respect your choice to not participate in the study. Thank you for your feedback! Bests

Wow, that survey expects a lot of shame from porn users. Also it has a low appreciation for the usefulness of pain. That said, it is a fast and rather painless survey to zip through. Just do it on "incognito" mode and none of your Google cookies will be available to scan. If y'all are really paranoid, just use a high-security proxy server: http://www.proxy4free.com/ "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Did my reply not show up? Been having Firefox issues again. Thought maybe it got removed. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

Hey exotics4me I have been having troubles posting on the forum using the quick reply box but the reply to message or reply with quote is working fine for me. I've had a bunch of responses in my interview thread not work because I used the quick reply and have had to re-do a bunch of responses. Sexted From My iPad

Personally, I'm not a fan of outside surveys or polls on any forum I'm on - especially this one because of the "sensitive material" we cover here. Call it paranoia, but I look at the whatever forum I'm on as a sort of family and I like to keep the dirt "in house". Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Thanks for the tip GCode, pretty sure I was typing in the quick reply when mine didn't show up on this thread. Also agree with all the PU members who have posted on this thread. I'll try to keep it under 5,000 characters this time Hopefully the student won't mind me poking a little fun at the survey. The student runs into class: Professor! I have the results! Professor: Well, go on, tell me what you found out! Student: You'll never believe this! Porn users ... use porn! Professor: I started studying Psychology when I was a teenager. Went on to earn a Master degree in it and practiced for 10+ years before burning out. It's surveys like these that burn out Psychologists. I can say now that my formal education in Psychology didn't help me one bit as a Psychologist. Here's an example of what will be done with these questions: If you answered you watch porn 3 times a day for 30 minutes total; the Psychologist believes your main interest in porn is for sexual satisfaction/orgasm due to the short average time you watch it. If you answered you schedule time in your day to watch porn; the Psychologist starts thinking about addiction and starts thinking you are showing problems with priorities in life. If you answered you have avoided social engagements with friends and family so you can watch porn, the Psychologist starts thinking you're anti-social because of your addiction to porn, starts thinking you're reclusive and maybe even afraid of social life. Then if you answered, "no" to "Do you believe you're addicted to porn?" The Psychologist yells out "denial!" because the Psychologist assumes you, like every other "normal" person, loves spending time with their friends and family and wouldn't avoid time with them if not for their addiction to porn. It's nonsense. The questions are looking for sociopath behavior, psychotic behavior and ask you multiple times if you're addicted to sex or porn to try and tie everything together. Oh and the question about stumbling on the illegal content most likely isn't looking to cause any legal problems, but it is looking to show the recklessness of an addict and how porn searchers are like risk-takers. researchma, I wish you the best even if it doesn't sound like it. Just don't fall into the 99% of today's Psychologists who become redundant broken records. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk
