Nudity Coming Back To Playboy

Did I really think Playboy would keep to its no-more-nudity new direction? No, I didn't. And as usual, I'm right.

Nude boobs and butts will once again grace the pages of the well-known nudey mag, starting with the March/April issue with Elizabeth Elam on the cover.

THE HEYDAY OF PLAYBOY AND PENTHOUSE IS LONG PAST.
THEY HAD THEIR PEAK IN THE 1960S, 1970S, MAYBE THE 1980S.
BUT THEN LOST THEIR WAY: READERSHIP DROPPED OFF, THEY LOST MONEY.

PLAYBOY AND PENTHOUSE ARE BARELY MEMORIES OF WHAT THEY ONCE WERE. LITTLE OR NO IMPORTANCE TODAY.

PAYSITES AND TUBESITES HAVE TAKEN THEIR PLACE.

I remember when Playgirl announced no more frontal male nudity. Not only did they change their policy back, but they began to feature fully erect men.

These magazines know why people bought them. I'm surprised Playboy still sells a print rag these days. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

Um, for me the notion of Playboy without nudity was like the idea of a vegetarian steakhouse... Meat lovers wouldn't visit for their soybean T-bones and most other folks would probably assume that there were better places to get a salad. So appealing to very few.

I also must admit that when I initially heard the news, I kind of assumed that it was a publicity stunt. I mean in this day and age when you've got full-frontal nudity in a large portion of popular cable television shows, a return to simpler times isn't really possible.

Maybe that's just the cynic in me?

I also suspect that it was a publicity stunt. It's like the Rolling Stones "final" tour. How many of those were there?

But mags can't compete with the net. The websites have generally gotten better, though. Maybe the mag stunt was really for that. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Don't know if it says something about me that I didn't care one way or the other when Playboy announced that they were no longer shooting nudes. The days when Playboy was for lack of a better word PLAYBOY are long gone. The internet killed Playboy the same way that it has more or less killed most other print medias. These days people read magazines on their tablets or computer and why shouldn't they when the photos will be significantly superior to anything you can print on paper and you won't have to find a place to store the magazine once you have read it.

Now if they want to bring back nudity to Playboy than it's my sincere hope that they do so only for digital medias and forgo going the magazine route. Printing media is dying due to cost and nothing can save it. The best you can hope for is to barely survive with advertising but that's not a route Playboy can really use. Long live the Brown Coats.

No direct reply to me. We've extended the timeout limit here, so not sure why this happens sometimes.

Playboy if it had moved with the times could still be a big deal as its had some amazing women pose for them but in my opinion just seemed very stuck in the past with its delivery of its content. I also hate they way they price their current website and I got caught with joining and not getting downloads that wasn't mentioned. I'll be staying away from them from now on. There was some not-bad logic behind the decision to go non-nude. They basically wanted to put the magazine on news stands in places that they could not before. Many stores won't sell nude magazines but they will sell Maxim, etc. Many states and cities have laws preventing it. By changing the format, they were able to increase news stand sales and sell at a significantly higher margin than they do elsewhere.

What they didn't count on was the HUGE decrease in subscription sales. They thought there would be a small decrease, but not the 30%+ that they experienced. That outweighed the news stand sales increases.

You heard it here first: I'll bet that within a year or two, Playboy has a spin-off non-nude magazine intended for news stands.

Now, you and I may not care much about Playboy today because there is such a proliferation of harder material out there. But my first hard-on (and more) at a stupid-young age was Marilyn Cole stolen from my brother's stash. Met-Art, which is a clean and beautiful solo girl site, is the number porn site on the planet, and Playboy has always had the ability to find unbelievably beautiful, curvy girls that would simply never pose for any other publication.

As for the brand, the brand name is still gold. There are times when great brands decline or become less popular, like Lincoln, Chanel, Bugatti, even Levi's, but the top quality brands always seem to survive because somebody is willing to buy them, market them and continue making them the best. For this reason I don't think we've seen the last of Playboy. Skippy
