Adult DVD Talk needs help - please read! I’m going to presume two things: 1) that Adult DVD Talk isn't really a competitor to TBP/PU and therefore mentioning it isn't prohibited here, and 2) that there is some overlap in membership between TBP/PU and ADT. For those who haven’t been on ADT recently they are in some trouble. They’ve been targeted by a slimy copyright troll over eight pictures that were posted by a user in a forum a while back. The troll figures wrongly that ADT has deep pockets and has acquired the rights to those images and is suing ADT for over two million dollars. ADT is in some serious jeopardy because of this and has started a fundraising campaign to help them pay for their legal fees. The alternative is shutting the site down. ADT serves an entirely different porn niche and I find that TBP/PU and ADT complement each other for those of us who are serious porn collectors. For those who visit ADT please consider helping them out. I know a lot of us stuck by TBP/PU when it was in decline and we saw these sites through to being the success that they once were – and we’re confident that they’ll be better than ever. ADT needs some help now. Here’s the link: http://www.adultdvdtalk.com/keeptalkalive.asp

It doesn't sound good for them does it, I've never really been much to the site but it will be a huge shame to lose another great porn related community that plays a great part in the promotion of dvds. I gladly contributed. Feels good to do my part. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

That sucks! How's that even possible? I'm not expert at US law but looking at the forum, it seems to have no image hosting so the images would have been linked by a user and hosted elsewhere. Can't see how that could lead to a big penalty.

^I think a huge reason why this can happen in the US and probably only in the US is because you can sue almost anyone for almost anything in the US and you have a more than decent chance of getting a judge willing to allow the case to go to trial. Of course many of these cases get to trial but that has more to do with the fact that they are settled out of court. Whether a case goes to trial or not. Your legal fees are probably very high and I think this is the case with ADT. It may never go to trial but the lawyers they had to hire to defend them must be expensive and since this may take months if not years to go to trial than imagine how much money the lawyers will ask for just to be ready for when the case does go to trial. There are countless horror stories of class action lawsuit where the plaintives are awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in settlement and most of that goes to the lawyer fees. That certainly was the case for the cases against the Tobacco companies. Most of the victims got peanuts while the lawyers made millions. Long live the Brown Coats.

You learn something new every day: http://www.pointoflaw.com/loserpays/overview.php It seems that US is indeed a great country for a copyright troll trying to scare others into paying. My first thought would have been to ignore the whole thing and walk out of the court not guilty.
