IMDb is closing their forums I just got back from IMDb (Internet Movie Data Base) and learned they are closing all their forums. Suspect it is the amount of trolling and the heated arguments that lead to violating the code of conduct rules that overwhelmed the moderators. Their forums were a place that a avid film buff, which I consider myself, could discuss with like minded people the films and TV series that brought us joy. As of February 20th they will be gone. Fortunately the site will remain to give information on films, TV series and actors. This makes me appreciate PU even more. Since the first day I joined this forum I have had a safe and friendly place to discuss a subject that is very private in nature. I am not just talking about this forum, but those you who participate here. This includes you Amanda and the administration that has followed the legacy of Khan's work here. You're doing a fine job. I'm not fishing for brownie points; it's the truth. So this is both a good-by thread to IMDb and also an appreciation thread to PU. Thank you for keeping this a wonderful place to share with fellow porn users. Warning Will Robinson

Is it possible that one of the reasons is that they were slapped with an injunction that forced them to remove the birth date of actors and actresses after one of them complained that the site accurately posted her age and she lost job offers because of that? Frankly there are so many trolls on the net today that it's getting to the point where there are no safe place to discuss any subject without getting the most foul and obscene comments posted from those trolls. Then you have them starting weird threads just to fuck with everybody else. Long live the Brown Coats.

I do look up info on actors there and mainly to see what I've seen them in before, I didn't use the forum too much but its a shame. Totally agree with you about Pornusers though, its always had this friendly vibe and doesn't get the trash trolling you see so ripe on other forums. Be constructive but no point it hating everything and everyone, this forum is a great place to spend some time each week and hang out. There are so many trolls at IMDB it was only a matter of time before they shut down the forums. It's a shame as I used them to ask questions and help others find answers for more obscure movies out there. "Dogs think people are Gods. THERE ARE TROLLS ALMOST EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNET. WHY NOT TRY TO IGNORE THEM? THE IMDB MESSAGE BOARDS PROVIDED A USEFUL SERVICE. WHERE USERS COULD POST IDEAS, SHARE INFORMATION, MAKE COMMENTS. I FOUND THE MESSAGE BOARDS SOMETIMES USEFUL, INTERESTING, HUMOROUS. I'M SORRY TO SEE THEM TURNED OFF. JUST MY 2 CENTS.

We really have to thank our moderators for keeping the trolls away. Only vigilant ones can be effective, IMHO. As for us PUers, I think the best advice is what we all know in case one appears: Don't feed them. Just ignore them and deprive them of all attention until they are removed. As you say Drooler, the best way to deal with trolls is to not feed them. What I've seen in many forums, are two people getting in a heated argument with a never ending chain of posts arguing about something that means nothing to the rest of the community. This leads a person who has anonymity in these forums to feel free to use vile and derogatory language. The age of computer communication has sadly given immature people a way to spew rude comments hidden behind a user name that they would never say face to face. I was an administrator for a forum a while back and we made sure trolls were left out there to starve. We also had tons of spammers to deal with as does IMDB. (I have noticed more and more "free downloading" offers on movies not even released yet.) Still, it was fun to discuss movies and TV shows with fellow fans. I ignored the trolls, but I can see why IMDB has decided to discontinue the practice. The good news is there are many other forums out there to join. "Dogs think people are Gods. THE BAD NEWS IS THAT I DIDN'T VISIT IMDB TO READ THE MESSAGE BOARDS. I VISITED IMDB TO READ ABOUT THE MOVIES, AND SEE THE LIST OF CAST AND CREW. AND AS AN AFTER-THOUGHT, TO GLANCE AT THE MESSAGE BOARDS, AND SEE IF ANY TITLE THREADS CAUGHT MY INTEREST. I DON'T BELONG TO ANY OTHER MOVIE FORUMS. AND I BELIEVE I'M A MOVIE PERSON, WHO LIKES TO WATCH MOVIES. EXCEPT I DON'T GO TO MOVIE THEATERS AS MUCH AS I USED TO, BECAUSE IT'S GOTTEN SO EXPENSIVE. I DO RENT DVD-S FROM REDBOX, BUT MOST OF THE MOVIES I WATCH ARE ON CABLE. SOME ARE ON AMAZON PRIME. SO IMDB MESSAGE BOARDS WERE A CASUAL THING FOR ME, BUT I ENJOYED THEM BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY AT THE SITE TO LOOK AT THE MOVIE INFORMATION (CAST, CREW, BASIC PLOT), AND SOME OF THE MESSAGE BOARD COMMENTS WERE INFORMATIVE, HUMOROUS, THOUGHT-PROVOKING, WHATEVER. BUT TO JOIN OTHER FORUMS THAT DISCUSS MOVIES SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF EFFORT. SO I'M ANNOYED THAT IMDB IS CLOSING THE MESSAGE BOARDS. THEIR STATEMENT IS THAT THE MESSAGE BOARDS DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE USER EXPERIENCE. I DISAGREE.

http://forum.rottentomatoes.com/ http://forums.boxofficetheory.com/forum/3-movie-discussions-please-hide-spoilers/ http://www.movieforums.com/community/ There are so many forums out there to join. I know what you mean about using IMDB to find out information and visiting the boards as well. I plan on joining a few eventually, but I also am a bit lazy about such things. It probably won't do any good, but a petition to keep the IMDB boards up and running has been started. https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/peti...messageboards-going#
