PC sugestions I have a older machine sitting here not sure what to do with it. Its a 1.8gz 512 ram No hd and is pci . Has a 250 power supply ( i have a spare dual fan350 watt will fit if needed. CDrom, floppy usb I think 2.0. mid tower. Great shape. Not sure what to do with it that would help me in my project porn here. I have licensed xp pro and xp , win2000 and win98 I could put on it. My main system is fast and capable of allot so it would not be a main system. Thanks Cybertoad Since 2007 | |

Newwegg has a sata controller card on sale right now for $16 I believe. Check that out, just make sure it is PCI, I did not look. Of course not - I mean you won't get rich but my appreciation - but that's exactly what I'm building now. A new NAPS server using the old PC plus parts I couldn't use in my new machine. Those searching for an inexpensive operating system for such a machine can always try to use a standard UN*X like OS plus the Samba server which is needed to transfer data between Windows client and NAPS server using a network connection. | |

PS, so which would be faster to network the old pc or house the sata drives in it and pass two sata cords to another in the new pc from the old.? ps, I have a xp-pro cd ( unsed licence to do whats needed os wise) As you may have noticed from my posts here and there I am trying to sort a good efficiant way to keep everything in one spot. My long term goal is to have a 3 TB system in one place, And also have a good file transfer speed to save whats downloaded. thanks Cybertoad Since 2007 | |

Well it was $17, but it was a one day sale I believe, now it shows up as $26 as you say. I would avoid using another pc for for what you want to do. The extra pc will slow things down, plus you would then be limited by the ability of your network and have to worry about issue cropping up on the other system.
