A word or two about our Webmasters.....

I trust a fair share (or most) of our forum participants would join me in saluting those Webmasters who contribute their input to our forum.

It's always a bonus to me when one pops up on any of our threads, because in addition to gettin' it straight from the horse's mouth, I find them extraordinarily helpful, informing and entertaining. It's like one-on-one with your professor.
So, you'uns out there in the business, don't-cha be a stranger, ya' heah?

Thanks for putting this out there. I like to comment on what you guys are saying sometimes but I try not to overstep either. I do not comment a lot but I read the threads. I do not want to give you guys the impression I am hear to only pimp out my sites. I like to hear what you say and we are member driven site so we do take what you have to say to heart.

Capn' the custom zips are on the list. I am sure some of you might have heard we had issues with our sites a couple weeks ago. We were changing something around on our servers and now our sites run faster (according to test) than they have ever ran. Owner Kick Ass Pictures

This website has been the most valuable source of info re keeping my viewers happy, which was what I was originally interested in to be honest.

I first found it when I got reviewed and didn't realise the forums were so packed with useful info.. on looking more I realised its also full of fun people, so I get to know what the viewers want PLUS have a laugh.

That coupled with the competitions and polls makes for great time consuming fun!

The more the merrier.. Mistress Kent xx

Well, I am happy that we have webmasters/mistresses in our midst. I enjoy their contributions and their helpfulness. And I only remember one who shamelessly shilled for his site but that was a long time ago and I don't even remember his name anymore. This present group of WMs is honorable and they add something special to this forum.

I enjoy seeing webmasters participating. The economics and nuts and bolts of entertainment media, whether they be porn, mainstream movies and TV or video games never lose their fascination for me. Besides, most of the ones I've had dealings with have been very nice, or at least interesting.

I wish more Webmasters would participate.
The insight from their viewpoint is often very interesting.

That's really what this forum should be more about, the punters have a chat with the site's producers and discussing what works and what doesn't and creating sites that people want and stay members or attract more attention for newbies. Most site's webmasters/mistresses should visit regular to answer questions, or employ someone to do so and keep everyone in the loop on things with the site. I'll tell you one thing; I'm much more likely to sign up on a site where the Webmaster participates by writing forum posts and responding to reviews and comments.

That participation tells me they really want to make sure they satisfy their best customers.

I'll throw in with graymane and say I enjoy having the Webmasters contribute and join in the fun. We PU members can be brutal in our critiques of your sites and services so I'm sure it's not always easy to read our reviews and comments!

What's up with the Web mistress title? I think "Webmaster" is gender neutral.

We're a lot of things here, but gender neutral isn't one of them.

Unfortunately there isn't a non gender specific word for that.....yet.

Chairman has become Chairperson.

Perhaps Webmaster should become Webmanager?

Originally master and mistress were the same in meaning the only difference being gender. Look what happened over time though, as mistress only has a negative connotation. But regarding the word webmaster, it just is not appropriate for a female, just like there are no firewomen or mailwomen. I like Capn's word-webmanager.

It's time someone came up with an alternative word for "webmaster".

Offline I usually refer to myself as a "web developer" but lots of people equate that with "web designer" which is just misleading.

Webmanager is good, but possibly too many syllables? Unfortunately most of the alternatives for "manager" are even longer.

The only shorter one I can think of is "webchief" but that sounds odd? Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

I think Webmanager gives a better idea of what the job is about, without being gender specific.

Chief isn't gender specific but it doesn't really give much idea of what it's about.

To be honest I find the "Web" bit misleading. What I do is a LOT more than just web based, in fact the web part is probably the minority portion. It probably ought to be SiteManager or something like that.

The big problem will be getting people to adopt whatever the preferred title is. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

This is probably as good a place as any to start. If we can get the group of webmasters which frequent this site to adopt the new name (myself included) then that's a good beginning. I'm assuming that most of the "webmanagers" here run more than one website, so that should be a quite a few sites using the new term.
Follow up with posts in other forums and the webmanagers here talking to other webmanager. Maybe we can kickstart a jargon revolution? I'm guessing female webmanagers will be the most keen to get the new term adopted. Like most things the more it is used, the more normal it sounds.

So do any webmasters object to being called "webmanager" instead? Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.
