Anyone ever have a site charge for an additional membership (not a pre-checked cross-sell)

I was surfing and downloading from Fame Digital a few minuts ago and I got a pop-up screen notifying me that my credit card had just been charged $9.95 for a one-month membership to DVDBox. I didn't click anything to bring this up, and to make it worse there was no way to close it the window or even refuse the membership. They simply debited the same card and assigned me that same username and password. Anyone ever have this happen?

Frankly, I'm a little concerned about going back to Fame Digital.

Yes that network is well-known for unwanted charges, despite what their PR staff continues to say. Just basic rules, if it's not ccbill or epoch, *ALWAYS* use a virtual credit card number, pretty much all banks offer them now.

Actually come to think of it, last time I picked up a subscription to them, it triggered a fraud alert on my credit card, and even though I was charged correctly by them, I think I answered the question wrong on the phone with my bank and they reversed the charge

If that was mentioned anywhere on here of TBP I didn't see it. I'll have to go back and check.

I contacted their customer support and they said there were no additional charges. I'm not sure I believe them now...

I've been a member of Fame Digital several times, and I was never charged any extra fees beyond the basic membership (except for one time I got dinged with a pre-checked cross-sell that I tried to cancel within minutes of signing up, but I was unable to have the charge reversed by the customer help line).

Maybe this is something new, but I never had any problem about an unwanted extra membership (aside from that one pre-checked cross sell, which cost me less than $2 for a 3-day trial membership).

If I were you, I'd call the customer service toll-free telephone number and try to have the charge for DVDBox reversed. If that doesn't work, I'd have your credit card company reverse the charge, because the charge was not done with your consent. I didn't fight my $2.00 charge because the amount was so small. I think it was less than $2.00 for a 3-day trial membership.

This disturbs me, rearadmiral, because I have Fame Digital in "My Favorites" to be considered for a future subscription. And I don't blame you for feeling concerned. Those things make me very nervous!!

I still can't figure out what happened, but I did't get an email confirmation of my 'new' membership and there are no new charges on my credit card. When I had no option but to continue with the transaction (I couldn't even close the pop-up window) I shut the computer off. Maybe that killed the transaction.

I will be monitoring it though.

But... it's a good thing that I did check my credit card though. I had a membership last month to Innocent High. I cancelled it within CCBill and got a confirmation of that. But I had a new CCBill charge a few days ago and when I checked what it was for I found it was for Innocent High. So I cancelled it again. For some reason, it looks like I was renewed. I thought that maybe I somehow signed up twice last month, but I only have the one charge for it. Has anyone ever had that happen?

So... at this point, I'm not willing to blame Fame Digital for anything fraudulent. Something happened, but I think I avoided it. I will be keeping an eye on my credit card though. Who knows, maybe I'll be stuck with a DVD Box membership.

It's around here. They're a network of dozens of sites, each one having a separate listing.

Here's one:

YES!!!! Rearadmiral, please see my comment on Devils Film (Same network and biller) Titled: fraudulent billing practices! The same exact thing happened to me.

It seems to be somewhat infrequent and unpredictable as well. A couple months ago I resubscribed to Devils Film after the first incident and while nothing happened initially (thought it was a fluke), two days ago I recieved a very suspiscous charge on my bank listed as MYPPHELP.com for $11.32.

After looking into it was for a site I'd never heard of called wildpass.com. Trying to contact the biller went nowhere and I had to cancel my card.

I'm becoming convinced that Fame Digital is either knowingly ripping off customer's or have lax security allowing peoples card information to be stolen.

Either way I'm staying away for good next time or will get a virtual card.

Rearadmiral I'd strongly suggest cancelling the card and getting a new one as there are liable to be little charges that will pop up.

I think TPB should possibly cease it's business with this company. Edited on Jul 20, 2011, 07:43pm
