While I've been largely silent for quite a while, it has nothing to do with the site. I've been preoccupied by other matters. But I do follow the forum and read reviews. I'm happy to see that PU is on the road to becoming the civil and fun place it once was. I applaud the PU staff for listening to its customers and making a sincere effort to improve life here.

Precisely. That is, the way messages are formatted plus the people it seems to attract. And as I said before, the porn is very vanilla, more so than many of the sites listed on PU, lol.

I've checked out the porn on Reddit and am not a fan. It's very vanilla. Then again, I say that about most of the sites listed on PU, haha.

At one time, I used Reddit frequently. But over time, I've used them less and less. I once logged on multiple times a day. Now it's at most once a week. The main reason is the format is not conducive to following threads not to mention the draconian rules in some sub-reddits.

lk2fireone, I often debate (with myself!) if NYC was a better place in the 70s. Like, Times Square was a PU user's, uh, wet dream back in the day. Now you would think you were in Disneyland if you didn't know any better.

NYC was a real sh!thole in many respects in the 70s. It was broke and the infrastructure was falling apart. Crime was rampant. But at least it had character. While it still does have character, it's not like it was 50 years ago, though people were probably saying the same exact thing in 1970.

And fugghedabout the pizza, though it was great and almost unheard of to find a pizza place not owned by an Italian. One word though... (old-fashioned) bagels, something unheard of outside the NYC metro area.

Lots of paralIels here!

It was probably about 2 years ago that I gave a lousy unbiased review of a site, I forget which one. The webmaster jumped in just like Asian Sex Diary to defend his site and insult me. I was furious. PU members came to my defense, just like in the ASD review. However, the webmaster proceeded to insult everyone who made a negative comment and a lot more vociferously than in the ASD review.

At first, I asked that his site be banned, just like you and others have advocated with ASD. However, after thinking about it, I thought it best to let everything stand so everyone could see the maniacal rantings, not that it was my decision to ban it. [I don't know if the site is still on PU.]

I believe the same course of action should be taken with ASD... nothing. Freedom of speech, and all that. Let users draw their own conclusions. I know if I read the review and comments, I would never join based on the webmaster comments alone. I think by leaving it up, it will likely do the site more harm than good.

Thank you sir!

I'm retiring and relocating to Colombia. No porn issues there and plenty of nice women . I am not leaving the site, so no tearful farewells please. I would miss your posts too much and refused to consider countries where porn is a taboo

Over the past few years, my interest in standard porn sites has declined though. I'm more interested in amateur and reality stuff, and not fake reality [tm, DJT!]. I'm not sure how I'll feed that hobby in the future but I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I hope I'm not violating any rules...

Before I list the following on eBay and since there's been interest in the subject, I'm selling my storage and backup system. I am relocating outside the US and can only take a limited amount of stuff with me. Very sadly, the system must go. It is less than 2 years old.

The system consists of two 4-bay enclosures and 6 hard drives totaling 40TB. I found it ideal for storage and complete backups. Total cost (at today's prices, or what everything is selling for now) was $1578. Please PM if you are interested or have questions.

Perhaps this is a radical idea and seems to run counter-intuitive to the business model... allow reviews for sites not listed as well as other online services, i.e., usenet. In the end, it will bring more traffic to the site and theoretically more reviews for those sites that are sponsored by TBP.

The world is changing and we seem to be moving away from the old business model of subscription pay for sites that seem to be the same. My personal feeling is that TBP will be history in time if it doesn't change. There are numerous other business models for TBP.

Personally, I've almost completely moved away from the old model. The only sites I pay for are amateur sites that have fresh material and not married to the ways that the big guys do business.

The frustration is understood. Many of us spend hours over several days writing a review. I know I have. It upsets me to see reviews that were apparently written in 60 seconds get posted, let alone win a raffle. Not only does it detract from the well-written reviews, but it makes the site look amateurish.

But please, time out. Cooler heads need to prevail if this community is going to move forward and be successful. Freddie apologized profusely and said the mistake won't be repeated. I've done a lot worse things in my life.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd say tattoos are more popular than ever. They're even more popular in many other parts of the world, i.e., Europe and South America. Personally, I still hate 'em unless it's minimal and tasteful.

You didn't expand much on "alt" sites and I'm not exactly sure what is meant by that. For me, 2018 was a break from traditional porn and paying sites. I've groaned before (along with many of you) how repetitious and boring porn sites have become. As a result, I went searching for alternatives.

For the past 6 months or so, I've been mining one of the last vestiges of the wild wild net. Not the darknet, though that qualifies. But is also a minefield where only the knowledgeable and brave should wander. I'm referring to Usenet. It's a forgotten and unused place by most and has existed since 1980. Things haven't changed all that much.

It's a PITA to search, video quality is often the pits and it's as disorganized as it was in 1980. However, there's some excellent and, more important, different stuff to be found, mostly by amateurs. The cost is minimal - I think I paid $100 for a year with no download limit. Price was not the motivation though. The thrill of coming across some great and different stuff was my only motive.

These SSD drives are best for boot partitions and operating systems that are loaded into memory when a computer starts. All of my 4 desktop computers have SSD drives to boot from and then all data is stored on large mechanical drives. I have one "hybrid" ssd/mechanical drive, that moves huge blocks of data from spindle to SSD as you use it so the data is accessed my quickly, but I have not yet decided if that is a significant benefit.

I considered SSD but couldn't rationalize the cost. For data that doesn't need to be accessed often, I don't feel it's necessary. Speed is not important in when it comes to viewing videos. My first backup took a long long time, but that was a one time thing. Incremental backups are fast enough. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me that a reliable regular hard drive is sufficient assuming a backup is done.

I agonized over this after losing almost my entire collection when 2 large drives failed at once and I had no backup. I set out to look for a way to hold my 20TB of data with room for expansion plus a reliable backup.

I spent a tidy sum 2 years ago so the chances of data loss happening again are slim. There's probably better ways, but I bought drive enclosures that hold 4 hard drives. You can get smaller or bigger enclosures, i.e., 2 bay or 6 bay. It is the older version of this...

https://www.amazon.com/OWC-Mercury-Elite...wc+mercury+elite+pro

I bought 2 of these, one for backup. Each enclosure has the capacity to hold four 8TB drives. I opted not to do RAID for reasons I forget. So, it's basically like having a bunch of external drives except they're organized neatly into an enclosure. And you don't need to buy single external drives - you get internal drives which are less expensive.

The entire setup probably cost close to $1000, but I'm set forever, or at least until my dick falls off . I have the ability to store 32GB of data with a method to backup.

I am not very technically inclined. This setup is very simple and all it takes is being able to use a screwdriver. Edited on Jan 01, 2019, 03:03pm

It's not worth fighting but I would probably stop doing business with that credit card issuer and make sure they knew why. The same thing may happen next time you have a legitimate dispute.

I don't think my credit card issuer even contacts the merchant in the event of small disputes. It seems they refund my money immediately with no questions asked. It's probably cheaper for them to credit a small charge rather than go through the time and effort of contacting the merchant.

Pre-checked charges, "free" trials, etc., are borderline legal - depending. If the purpose is to lure the consumer into a more costly offer unwittingly, then the charge won't pass the muster of the FTC. The few times I have disputed such charges with my credit card issuer, I prevailed. Most times, the porn site (or whomever) will credit the charge not wanting a dispute. However, my guess is that many, if not most people don't contest the charges for various reasons and that's what these sites rely on.

I agree that these sites are unscrupulous and one should be vigilant when joining porn sites to avoid any hassle. But sometimes one forgets, mea culpa.

Bill Maher needs to go. He is the Donald Trump of the left and it's embarrassing. He's oblivious, arrogant and condescending. He sticks his foot in his mouth often. Remember his use of the n-word not long ago?

His audience is akin to the Trump base, mindlessly applauding his every utterance.

Still, I watch his show regularly. He can be very funny, but sometimes I cringe. Just like someone else we all know. Though funny is not often used to describe that other guy.

I'm reminded of the recent appearance of The Mooch, Anthony Scaramucci, former White House Director of Communications for like 1 week. Maher prides himself on welcoming guests with opposing views, the Mooch being one such person. However, I cringed during his appearance. The Mooch seemed a bit reticent every time he was interrupted by Maher and his panel the moment he started to say something. He sat back and let the bullies beat him up. Regardless of what anyone thinks of his views, they are thoughtful and he should at least be allowed to express them.

But don't get me started -).

You'll find this is a very civil site with lots of very knowledgeable people. Don't hesitate to ask anything. I suggest browsing the reviews. I think you'll find the quality of many of the reviews better than anywhere else on the Internet.

I generally don't comment on the Internet (or most anywhere) about Trump. All the political talk on Facebook was my final straw with Mark Zuckerberg and I cancelled my account. The talk has gotten too polarizing and mean-spirited.

However, just a few comments here and I'll be done. I'll probably get my ass handed to me for saying what I feel, but so be it.

First, you imply that most people support Trump. That's far from the truth.

However, I totally agree with you about the mindset of a large number of people as being incomprehensible. I attribute today's attitudes to the rising world-wide paranoia caused by terrorism which in turn caused the attitudes about immigration and intolerance to anyone different. Another offspring of terrorism is a shift to right-wing fascism throughout the world, the US included.

I also believe that many of the attitudes that you and I find confounding always existed in a large part of the population. However, it remained in a vacuum until Trump came along and made it OK to hate.

Our society, at least the US, has gradually been losing civility over the years. Trump sped that up tenfold with his fucking potty mouth and asinine tweets.

Many Trump supporters, including Congressmen, don't like Trump as a person but feel that he has done much good with his agenda. They are willing to overlook Trump's personal shit. Sort of like the end justifies the means. This is what gets me and has made me more apolitical than ever. The Democrats are no better than the Republicans.

That's it for me here. I know some are gonna fiercely disagree. So be it. Time to watch the soap opera in Congress which cannot possibly have a good ending for any side.

Just noticed this.

Remember newsgroups? Usenet? The original Internet? It seems to have made a comeback. There are tons of photo sets on there (as well as videos) - gay, straight and everything in between. All for the price of subscribing to a news service, cheap cheap.

I joined on a week's trial a short time ago and ended up signing up for a year. It's still chaotic which I suppose is one of its charms. However, if you're technically inclined you can probably find things a lot easier than me. But I enjoy the hunt.

It seems we are on the brink of change once again. Ever since the Stone Age when man carved images of naked women in rocks, change in porn medium has been a constant. In my relatively short time on this planet, I have seen a number of changes: from "dirty" magazines and books wrapped in plastic to 8mm movies to VCRs and DVDs to the Internet.
The Internet no longer provides a profit motive for the adult industry. It's easy to cast blame, though technology is most likely the culprit.
What's next? Social media sites? Augmented / virtual reality? Artificial intelligence?

A word of caution with Paypal. There is no such thing as getting an immediate credit, at least in my experience. The dispute process can be very time consuming. If the vendor disputes your claim, you stand more of a chance of losing than if you used a credit card. I only use Paypal when there is no alternative.
If you do use Paypal, make sure you opt for funding with a credit card, not a bank account. By doing this, you can sometimes bypass the Paypal dispute process and go directly to the credit card issuer.
The above been my experience over the years.

Now, the following doesn't apply to porn sites, but there are other non-credit payment methods available. I use Venmo in place of Paypal if possible.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I just had a dispute with a Paypal merchant. Jeez, I think "dispute" should be my middle hame, haha. I bought software that didn't work and I paid with Paypal, the only option. The merchant didn't respond to emails. So I disputed it with Paypal. The dispute is not really a dispute at first... all Paypal did was forward my "complaint" to the seller, which was totally ineffective. At that point, I said to hell with Paypal and went to American Express, the card used to fund Paypal payments. They refunded my money immediately. Edited on Sep 11, 2018, 02:26am

I'm far from an expert on the matter. I chose Nord VPN based on its many good reviews, including from PC Magazine.

https://nordvpn.com/special/deal/?coupon...%2Fwww.google.com%2F

I paid $99 for 2 years. You can also pay monthly, but it costs more. There is a 30-day money back guarantee, so I figured I didn't have anything to lose.

There are free VPNs, but I felt more comfortable going with one based on ratings as well as ease of use and setup. In setting it up, I called customer service and received excellent help.

I've recently rethunk the matter of fraud. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I'm not overly concerned. I've had dozens upon dozens of fraud charges on various cards over the years and I never lost a dime. It's not that big of a PITA either, though it does feel like a personal violation.

The PITA is having to cancel a card and thereby wait to get a new card and also to address recurring charges. Not that big of a deal. I have backup cards so being without the compromised card for a couple of days is no big deal.

I'm no longer concerned about getting blacklisted for disputing a charge since I don't believe that can be done. I use a VPN. I don't compromise safety but I don't obsess over it. Edited on Sep 09, 2018, 03:21pm

I hate when that shit happens and it happens too much with me. Just this past week I had to cancel 2 credit cards because of fraud. Whenever I travel out of the country I seem to have a problem no matter what precautions I take.

I generally hold off with cancelling until I'm sure my card's been compromised. It's safer to just cancel, but I find it a real PITA - waiting for a new card, changing recurring payments, etc. In your case, the only concern is seemingly 1 merchant. If you don't cancel the card, the worst that can happen is that you'll get another charge from the merchant and you'll have to dispute it. lk2fireone, it is not possible to block a merchant.

However, you may not have a choice but to get a new card. If and when you dispute the current charge, the credit card company may insist on closing your account, especially if you state that it's fraud.

As for getting a new card, you can get it by expedited shipping but you have to ask. Except for American Express. Otherwise, they'll take their sweet time.

I find it ironic that most of the country isn't fond of New Yorkers but Trump's base is in the American heartland. However, New Yorkers overwhelmingly voted for Hillary. Trump's vacation home is in NJ and he has lots of property in NJ, hence the possible reason for the confusion.

But in fairness, I consider myself a New Yorker having been born there and lived there most of my life. And I live stone's throw from Manhattan and have always worked there.

But I digress. Getting back to the subject at hand... as per "Psychology Today":

Alexa, the leading Web-traffic tracker, says that among the world’s tens of millions of sites, PornHub ranks number 36. But if we eliminate search engines (Google U.S. and its many country-specific affiliates), Web portals (Yahoo!), shopping sites (Amazon), and sites based on user-generated content (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit), if we focus only on sites that publish other content, then PornHub ranks number four behind only Wikipedia, Microsoft, and Netflix.

Good point -).
That statement was based on how they respond in their forum. They just seem like real douche bags.

Not to digress, but I kind of stumbled into a very erotic twin sister scene. They weren't real twins and I don't recall where I saw it. Then I did a search on PH for twin sisters and the results included several real twin videos. However, when I went to play them, I got a message that the video wasn't available in my country, New Jersey of course -). Later on, I got a VPN for privacy purposes. And then I tried playing those videos again from the PH search and it worked. Just sayin', a VPN can do wonders when it comes to risque porn, though that was an unintended side benefit.

This may be sacrilegious. I confess, I watch Pornhub. There, I said it. Over the past few months, I probably watched PH more than any of the paid for collection that I’ve amassed. The monetary savings is irrelevant to me.

I hadn’t joined a site in months. I had no desire to. But then an offer from New Sensations came along and I figured what the heck. I was instantly bored. I downloaded a few dozen videos and stopped. I can’t watch this stuff any more; I’m bored to tears.

I know PH and free tube sites are frowned upon here cuz they are supposedly hijacking material from legitimate sites. Can someone convince me that’s the case? I find it difficult to believe that they are able to get away with it if they do, particularly such a well-known site as PH. I’m guessing that they either buy clips or it’s given to them to promote those sites. Hence, my moral justification. Or are my assumptions incorrect?

Second, I watch PH because it contains a bunch of atypical stuff. There’s lots of diversity on PH and much that can’t be found on any sites I know of. I hate to sing the praises of PH because the people that run it are idiots, but at this point, it’s the best option for me. Am I a bad person?

Sorry, but I can't offer a solution. It seems like you tried everything I would have tried. The good news is that you have a backup, something I stupidly didn't have when 3 of my 4 drives failed at once.

However, if it's from a major manufacturer, i.e., Western Digital, the warranty is generally 2 years or more. Regardless, I would contact the manufacturer.

Yes, gmail reads emails which is a bit creepy. But they no longer sell the info. Interesting article from June 2017 below.

I'm not advocating protonmail over gmail, but it's no more difficult than gmail to set up. It's the advanced option in gmail to prevent phishing and hacking which seems a bit painful to implement. If you want simplicity with robust features and without the advanced options to prevent phishing and hacking, gmail is the way to go, bearing in mind big brother is watching. Personally, since I have nearly 15 years of emails in gmail that I can reference and most of MY world knows my email address, I am not going to give it up. However, I may opt for the advanced options.

Google Will Keep Reading Your Emails, Just Not for Ads
By Janko Roettgers @jank0 Janko Roettgers

No, Google won’t stop reading your emails. And you may not actually want it to.

The search giant introduced a significant change to the way it treats its users’ emails Friday, announcing that it will stop scanning the emails of Gmail users to personalize advertising later this year.

With that step, Google is getting rid of one of its most controversial advertising features. Ever since Google first introduced its free Gmail email service some 13 years ago, it has been analyzing the text of emails to personalize advertising displayed both within Gmail and elsewhere. Privacy advocates and concerned users alike have long criticized this as a far-reaching intrusion, but most other free email services have been doing the same — or at least reserved the rights to do so — for years.

On Friday, Google announced that it would stop personalizing advertising based on emails in part to more closely align its free Gmail service with the paid email service it is offering to companies through its G Suite service, which was formerly known as Google Apps.

Google Cloud SVP Diane Greene said in a blog post that more than 3 million companies pay to use Google as their email provider. Google has never used these corporate accounts for ad personalization. By phasing out the practice for free Gmail accounts, Google is likely looking to ease any remaining concerns from prospective G Suite customers.

Google’s Chrome Browser to Start Blocking Annoying Ads Next Year
Does this mean that Google will stop looking at your email? Not exactly. The company has also long been scanning Gmail accounts for other reasons, and in fact increased product personalization based on the emails you get over the years.

The Google app on your phone, for example, knows when your next flight is leaving, and whether or not it has been delayed, based on emails you get from airlines and travel booking sites. Similarly, Google Calendar has begun to automatically add restaurant reservations and similar events to your schedule based on the emails you are getting. Google also has for some time automatically scanned emails for links to potentially fraudulent sites, as well as to filter out spam.

All of this leads to an important question: Is this kind of automated scanning actually the same as someone reading your email? The answer to that may be more complicated than it sounds. Computers looking for certain keywords clearly aren’t the same as humans manually reading each and every email.

However, as artificial intelligence (AI) advances, computers get a lot smarter and can better make sense of the emails in your inbox. Google has been investing heavily in AI, and one of the areas where it is using these new types of technologies is email.

Case in point: The company recently introduced a new feature dubbed Smart Reply for Gmail’s mobile apps. Smart Reply uses neural networks — computer algorithms designed to process information similarly to the human brain — to figure out the main intent of an email, and then suggest short and adequate responses. It’s an incredibly useful feature, it works surprisingly well — and it clearly requires for Google’s computers to “read” your email.

In the end, consumers need to decide whether they want to trade privacy for convenience and give Google access to their data to power these kinds of features — and removing something like ad personalization from the equation may actually help Google to get more buy-in from consumers.

Google didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment for this story.

Wow, I don't blame you for wanting to dump yahoo. It seems they've been going out of business for years now. I think their latest ploy will put them under for sure.

I've been using gmail since inception, 2004. It's the most robust email for organizing and is rife with features. It allows you a very liberal amount of storage space. I passed the maximum a few years ago and pay a nominal fee (a few dollars a year) for extra storage.

Jade1 mentioned protonmail. I'm currently trying that out because of its strong encryption feature. If you're worried about our favorite uncle gaining access to your emails, protonmail is the way to go. They're based in Switzerland so the US would have a hard time serving legal requests on them.

Gmail is clearly a better option to prevent against hacking. There's an "Advanced Protection" service that makes it extremely hard for anyone to hack into your account. "Advanced Protection" requires the use of physical tokens or security keys, which make phishing attacks virtually impossible to pull off.

I think Pat hit it on the head.. new members, or at least active new members are few and far between - hence the lack of posts of any kind.

I wish I never started this thread. I've come to the conclusion that users are gonna post what they want and people are gonna read what they wanna read. Rules sort of get in the way.

For the heck of it, I took a look at the last 20 threads (not counting the 2 sticky threads and this one), and 11 were directly or indirectly related to porn while 9 had nothing to do with the topic. My interpretation of relating to porn includes discussion of peripherals, computers, editing, etc. Not that this means anything.

Perhaps I was thinking back to when I first joined when it seemed all the posts were in one way or another related to porn. As has been said by several, the forum and site used to be more active in all respects, especially the forum. It seemed to go south not long after I joined... shoot me [!!]. That's what I miss and perhaps I twisted the change in postings with the increase in non-porn related subjects. One has nothing to do with the other.

My vote at this point would be to live and let live and let Amanda and gang figure it out.

I appreciate the spirited discussion as well as everyone's opinion. I still feel like a newcomer compared to many of you and am not entitled to voice a controversial opinion... thanks for not taking me to task.

Amanda, thanks for thinking outside the box and offering to label posts. However, I concur with other posters that it's laborious and won't address the matter.

Another poster remarked that it's easy enough to figure out what a thread is about from the title and steer clear if it doesn't pique your interest. I agree, to an extent.

Personally, I'm so sick of political posts and the mere sight of them turns me off. I deleted my profile and participation in Facebook, politics every which way you turn being one of the reasons. Though the major reason was that I didn't like Mark and the gang playing with my privacy.

Politics has invaded our way of life and I thought PU was one of the few safe havens left. I can't help but think how a newcomer would feel after looking at the forum. Would it turn him off enough to discourage posting? Perhaps.

Whatever happens is not a deal changer for me and I will still love this site. I can live with ignoring threads that don't interest me. However, I'd rather not have to look at a thread header detailing the latest political firestorm. That's what facebook and the evening news are for. Or a bajillion other sites.

I emailed Amanda about a concern that this board is losing focus and stands to lose the harmonious feel that has made it unique. After sending it, I decided to post it here, publicly. No need to hide. Hopefully, even if you disagree, it will be taken in the positive spirit intended. Here is what I sent, or a reasonable facsimile:

Far be it from me to complain -).
I feel the forum is no place for political discussions and it's taking away from the focus, porn. There are plenty of other sites for such things. I hate to see the forum turn into a fiasco. More than anything, I believe the board will lose the friendliness and camaraderie that has made it unique. Or PU can set aside an area like other sites such as "not porn-related" to discuss politics or anything under the sun.
My 2 cents.

It's out, and it will set you back a few shekels. I haven't read up on it ... I couldn't get past the price.

The HTC Vive Pro seems to be a direct competitor of the Go, though there's not much info yet.

Onyx, thanks for the info. It seems that messmer and I are the lucky recipients of your knowledge.

The Oculus Go seems intriguing. I signed up to be notified of updates. However, like messmer, I'm naive about this stuff.

First off, I have an iPhone, so I guess I have no alternatives other than the Go. Or do I? While I did look on the Oculus site for info, I'm still uncertain how the Go works.

Would I transfer videos from my hard drive to the Go? If so, I'm guessing that could get to be a pain and limiting. Or can I connect via WiFi to my Mac?

At this point, will this be the only viable option for Mac / iPhone owners? I'm only looking for something with decent quality. And I don't want to wait forever for Apple and the like to come up with something.

Onyx, thanks for shedding some light on the 3rd dimension. I brought the subject up a while ago and came to the conclusion that there were no viable options at the moment for Mac users. It seems AR is the future and that is what Mac is embracing. Has anything changed, like, any worthwhile options for Mac?
