I was once pulled over by a deputy sheriff. It was around 2 AM, I was the only car on the road, 3 or 4 lanes in each direction. The deputy sheriff was originally heading in the opposite direction I was going. I saw him make a U-Turn when he passed me, and then he followed my car for about 3 miles before pulling me over. I was going about 35-40 in a 45 MPH speed limit zone. Main reason I was going so slow was I had seen the deputy make the U-Turn and follow me. When the deputy stopped me, he said I was impeding traffic. I was the only car on the road, except for him. Like I said, there were 3 or 4 lanes in each direction, and except for me, he was the only other car on the road. He also said that when I made a right hand turn, I had partially crossed over into the other lane. I hadn't been drinking. No alcohol. Possibly I did cross partway over into the other lane when I made the right hand turn. But I certainly was not weaving or driving erratically. I figured he followed me because it was 2 AM, and I was the only car on the road except for him. I didn't argue, I gave him my car registration papers upon request, and my driver's license. But I thought the "impeding traffic" that he cited was nonsense. I was the only car on the road except for him. And there were 3 or 4 lanes of the highway in each direction. He didn't give me ticket. Just let me go after checking the car's registration papers and my driver's license. But I thought that the charge of "impeding traffic" was a "nonsense charge" that he was using because he needed some reason for stopping me. Whether I actually moved partway into the other lane when making a right hand turn, I don't know. On some cross-corners, because of the sharpness of the turns, it is sometimes possible that the cars will cross partially into the next lane with one set of tires when making a turn. But I thought the real reason he stopped me was because I was the only car on the road except for him at 2 AM. I was driving back to my house after I had stopped at an all-night grocery store. I haven't had a moving violation in over 40 years. But that is luck. The deputy sheriff could have given me a ticket for "impeding traffic", and for partially crossing over into the other lane when making a right hand turn. And the truth is, your only defense if you are given a ticket, is to contest it in court, and depend on the "mercy" of the judge.

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/...ph-in-a-65-zone?lite 'You've got to be kidding me': Maryland woman gets a ticket for driving 63 mph — in a 65 zone A Maryland woman was shocked after she received a traffic ticket on Interstate 95 — because it wasn't for speeding. In fact, she was driving 2 mph under the speed limit. The driver, who didn’t want her name used, told NBC Washington she was driving in the left lane of I-95 in Laurel last Friday when she was pulled over and cited for failing to move right. According to the citation, she had been driving 63 mph in a 65 mph zone. “[I was] really shocked,” she said. “I thought, ‘Oh, my God, you’ve got to be kidding me.’” This was the first time she had gotten a ticket. She said there was heavy wind and she had slowed down to be safe. “Sometimes when it’s dangerous, you have to do what you can to stay safe,” she said. NBC Washington meteorologist Doug Kammerer said that winds were gusting at about 40 mph that day. “The reason [the ticket] is silly is because it's sending the wrong message,” said John Townsend of AAA Mid-Atlantic. “And that is, ‘We will tolerate you driving at more than the speed limit, but it you drive below the speed limit, then you’re penalized for that.’” The driver has filed a complaint with Maryland State Police and plans to fight the ticket. While police said they can’t comment on this specific ticket, they said that driving too slowly can impede traffic, and that anyone who wants to fight a citation can do so in court.

Real life crime as scary as a horror movie. What can I say? At least we can depend on our cops to keep us safe. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/...-cook-eat-women?lite By NBCNewYork.com An NYPD officer accused in a gruesome plot to kidnap women, cook them and dine on their "girl meat" has been convicted on all charges. Officer Gilberto Valle, a 28-year-old father of one, was found guilty Tuesday on a charge of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and a charge of illegally using a federal computer database that prosecutors had said he accessed to gain personal information about women he was targeting. The grisly case included online transcripts of his plans; at one point he told an alleged co-conspirator that his oven was "big enough to fit one of these girls if I folded their legs." "I was thinking of tying her body onto some kind of apparatus ... cook her over a low heat, keep her alive as long as possible," he was accused of saying. Defense attorney Julia Gatto had argued that Valle's chats on fetish websites "are no more real than an alien invasion." Prosecutors countered that an analysis of Valle's computer found he was taking concrete steps to abduct his wife and at least five other women he knew. They said he looked up potential targets on a restricted law enforcement database, searched the Internet for how to knock someone out with chloroform, and showed up on the block of one woman. Valle "left the world of fantasy and entered the world of reality," prosecutor Hadassa Waxman said during closing arguments. She said the officer's arrest last year interrupted a ghoulish plan to "kidnap, torture, rape and commit other horrific acts on young women." The jury heard Valle's potential victims testify that they were trading innocent-sounding emails and texts with him, unaware he was supposedly scheming to make meals out of them. The government also sought to drive home the point that Valle was more of a threat because he was a police officer. U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement after the verdict was read that "the Internet is a forum for the free exchange of ideas, but it does not confer immunity for plotting crimes and taking steps to carry out those crimes." http://www.takepart.com/article/2012/12/...?cmpid=tp-ad-nrelate Health 'Smart-Tattoos': How They Could End Up Saving Your Life The latest iteration of stick-on smart tattoos can detect medical problems before they surface. By Andri Antoniades December 22, 2012 Comment smart tattoos Temporary smart tattoos the size of this one are the latest frontier in medical science. (Photo: Robert Manella/Getty Images) So they’re not exactly cute, but if you came of age during the 90s, chances are you have at least regrettable tattoo anyway. (Raise your hand if that same tattoo is in the shape of a butterfly!) But the latest temporary smart tattoos do much more than serve as a symbol of misspent youth; they can read a body’s internal processes and alert the user of potential dangers like a dip in blood sugar or a drop in kidney function− all without having to draw any blood. A recent collaboration between researchers at the University of California San Diego and the University of Toronto created a lightweight and stick-on “smart tattoo.” Embedded in its fibers are a set of “ion-selective electrodes” which is a cooler way of saying “sensors that detect the pH or salt levels of the skin, as well minerals like potassium, and even blood oxidation." In other words, it can monitor athletic performance at a granular level, but without any of the bulk or wiring of older sensors. It also means that for the first time, detailed athletic response testing would no longer be limited to the walls of a sports clinic, but could be done daily by the athlete herself. And because the stick-ons are both quick and cheap to produce, it seems a natural fit with a mass market roll-out. Researchers are hoping they’ve designed the next big thing in sports training and expect it to hit shelves within the next twelve months. But this athletic testing sensor is only the latest iteration of a variety of body-reading smart tattoos set to hit the market in the coming year. Sano Intelligence is in the testing phase of a smart tattoo that reads a wearer’s blood markers. The application would be particularly useful for diabetics, who need to keep strict control over their blood sugar levels and often have to resort to finger-prick tests to determine if those levels are within normal range. The Sano patch would not only allow them to forgo the pain of finger-pricks, but the constant hassle of dragging around testing devices and interrupting daily activities to draw their own blood. And Boston-based MC10 announced earlier this year that it would soon release its own “stretchable electronics” patch, that can be applied internally to human organs, or externally to human skin, or clothing, depending on what needed to be monitored. The stick-on’s ability to remain flexible while reading vital signs means that it could effectively gauge the function of specific organs, track brain processes, and monitor more mainstream functions like heart rate, blood oxidation and body hydration. What's going to make the biggest difference in our daily lives as a result of this technology isn't even the technology itself- it's that for the first time, we as patients will be able to maintain our mobility and independence as we're being monitored. This presumably could mean it would be easier to catch oncoming deficiencies before they manifest any symptoms, and the distance between the patient and her specialist would no longer be a hinderance to treatment. Do you think this kind of technology would be useful in your own life, or do you think that a sensor monitoring your vital signs is just too "sci-fi" for your taste? If there were no character or line limits, my reviews would be much longer, because I tend to ramble. Some people have a flair for stating things concisely. I admire that. But I often have been confined by the Pros, Cons, and Bottom Line sections. And I have sometimes used RB's solution of continuing my review as a reply to the original review. I saw Warm Bodies in a movie theater, and really enjoyed it. Teresa Palmer (the heroine) is a stunner. The movie is fun and humorous. But I will probably wait to see Jack the Giant Slayer on DVD. Where I live, the movie is showing in IMAX 3D, which means it would cost around $15.50, even with a senior discount. $1 at Redbox sounds a lot better. An adult ticket to an IMAX 3D movie is $19. Jeez, money is almost worthless. Edited on Mar 07, 2013, 05:38am

I believe Alec Guiness was considered one of the greatest actors in his generation. He didn't actually hate working in Star Wars, but I believe he was surprised (and disappointed) that so many fans thought it was his best (or most famous) work, when he had already had a long and distinguished career before Star Wars. He won an Academy Award for The Bridge on the River Kwai. He was also nominated for an Oscar for his work in Star Wars.

Has anyone seen Carrie Fisher in the last few years? For her to return as Princess Leia in a new Star Wars movie, you would need a balloon over her head to identify has as Princess Leia. It's been 35 years or more since she appeared in Star Wars, and she has put on a little weight. As well as being slightly older than she was back then. I don't have anything against actors aging as they get older. But instead of calling her Princess Leia, maybe they should name her "Grandmother Leia". That might be more appropriate. ============== ============== Carrie Fisher says Yes to returning as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VII By Bryan Enk | Movie Talk 59 minutes ago Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia (Photo: 20th Century Fox/LucasFilm) We're now picturing new "Star Wars" scribe Michael Arndt trying to figure out how to fit "Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?" into his screenplay. It would appear that the rumors that the new "Star Wars" movie will serve as something of a reunion for old friends and familiar faces are at least somewhat true as Carrie Fisher has confirmed that she'll indeed be reprising her role as Princess Leia Organa in "Episode VII." Fisher broke the news in an interview with Palm Beach Illustrated, responding simply with "Yes" when asked if she can confirm whether she'll be returning for the continuing "Star Wars" saga. She also had some ideas of what we can expect from the now pushing-60 Princess. "[She's] elderly. She's in an intergalactic old folks' home," said Fisher with a laugh. "I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle." Don't count out seeing Leia embracing some of her classic trademark fashion statements, either, as Fisher went a few steps further when asked whether we might see the Princess sporting her iconic hairstyle from "A New Hope." "The bagel buns and the bikini, because probably she has sundowners syndrome," said Fisher, making us happy that there's at least one "Star Wars" alum out there who can laugh at all this madness. "At sundown, she thinks that she's 20-something. And she puts it on and gets institutionalized." Nothing's officially official until we hear it from Disney, but as Mark Hamill revealed last month that he may be returning to the franchise and even Harrison Ford is rumored to be involved, it looks like "Episode VII" will indeed focus on the further adventures of Luke, Han and Leia -- and probably also the new adventures of their children, who already have an intricate history and mythology of their own thanks to the many "Star Wars" novels and comic book series. One possible storyline would focus on Han and Leia's twin offspring, Jacen and Jaina, who are both powerful Jedi Knights. Jacen eventually succumbs to the temptation of the Dark Side and becomes Darth Caedus and Jaina eventually becomes a protege of bounty hunter Boba Fett (that might cause some tension at the family dinner table, no?).

Sometimes my PC is a little cranky, and when I click on a hot link, the information that is supposed to be transmitted is not submitted. That might be what is happening when you are clicking on the "complete transaction" hot link. That's just my guess. I would try to rejoin, as long as there is no error message or some other sign that hitting the "submit" link will not result in a duplicate submission. You don't want to have two separate memberships to the same site, obviously. But if the join link works, you should then see a new page stating that your membership has been accepted. And EPOCH is very good about sending you a confirming email when you sign up for a new site.

Thanks for the suggestion, RagingBuddhist. I just installed NoScript and AdBlock Plus, and I think that really helps with the YouTube ads. Before, the ads would play at the same time as a YouTube video. And some ads (from other sites) would suddenly start playing when I had different pages open on my PC. Now, I am hoping I will have less ads suddenly running on my PC. I certainly didn't want to listen to them in the first place.

Before Google took over YouTube, there were few or no ads on YouTube. Now that YouTube is owned by Google, you have to listen to ads that you can't turn off. The audio part of the ads run while you are watching a YouTube video, so the competing audio tracks are really annoying. And I don't know how you can turn off the freaking ads, or mute them if you want to listen to the audio portion of a YouTube video. Any suggestions?

Vanessa Williams was Miss America 1984. But then her nude photos appeared in Penthouse, and Vanessa Williams resigned. However, Vanessa went on to have a successful music career, and an acting career. She is probably one of the most successful former Miss America winners in the field of entertainment. But that was due to her talent, and her drive, and luck.

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was actually in retailiation for the US position against Japan. The US had an embargo on oil and scrap metal against Japan. Those are essential resources for Japan. The US had also frozen Japanese assets as punishment for Japan's invasion of China in 1931.

Unfortunately, they use stunt doubles for more than titis. They also use stunt doubles for hands, feet, legs, ass, whatever. I remember Lena Heady was on some late night talk show, and she said her brief nudity on Game of Thrones wasn't really her. The used a stunt double for her naked ass shot. You need a stunt double for a naked ass shot? Maybe it was in her contract that she didn't have to appear nude. And there is nudity in the Game of Thrones series. Emilia Clarke was naked a lot in Season One of Game of Thrones (she's the girl with the long blonde wig who marries Khal Drogo the Dothraki warlord).

I really enjoy movies that start out with the disclaimer, "Inspired by actual events, the following is a fictional film that does not depict any actual people or events." So I am left wondering: How much truth is there to this movie? If the people and events are non-actual, does that mean they are fictional? Is the President of the United States a real person, or is he a cartoon character? Or worse? Where is my Prozac? I need my meds!

i saw Warm Bodies today in a theater. I was the only person in the theater. First time that's ever happened to me. It was a Thursday, and it was afternoon matinee, and the movie has been out for 3 weeks, but still, to be the only person in the theater was a new experience for me. I liked the movie. The two leads are both attractive, that Teresa Palmer is a great-looking woman. I could totally believe she could warm up any zombie who got close to her.

Today's poll made me think about the "proper" use of log. Do you log-in to a site, or do you log-on? Do you log-out from a site, or log-off? Or maybe the correct use is to log-out? In today's world, I don't really know what is correct. So I just use or write whatever combination comes into my head when I do my logging. Makes me think I am a Canadian lumberjack, who is using my keyboard instead of an axe whenever I am forced to do my logging. Yeash, Canuck, the home of Paul Bunyan, my childhood hero. Language is supposed to be an evolving organism. That means, I think, that over time it changes. "Dude" used to mean a newcomer to the Western United States. Today, it means something like "man, or you", as in "hey, dude". In high school and in college, proper English was something to learn and use. But most people today just seem to use colloquial, nonstandard American English. Maybe in the legal system or in business contracts there are precise meanings in the way words are supposed to be used. But in everyday life, I doubt most people pay too much attention to the exact rules of grammar that were taught 30 or 40 years ago.

I saw "Fido", a zombie comedy a few years back on DVD. Thought it was a cute movie. The movie did less than $500,000 worldwide gross. I have a hard time understanding why some movies make a lot of money, and other movies bomb. $500,000 worldwide gross probably didn't even cover the salaries of the main actors. The cast included Carrie-Anne Moss, Billy Connolly, Tim Blake Nelson, Dylan Baker and other actors who've been around for years. Edited on Feb 18, 2013, 07:31am

Jason Momoa has been been tapped to join the "Guardians of the Galaxy," a new Marvel film that might hit theaters on August 1, 2014. For those of you who missed seeing Jason Momoa in Conan, now you're being given a second chance to see this action-star-in-the-making. ------------------------------ ‘Game of Thrones’ alum Jason Momoa recruited for Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ By Bryan Enk | Movie Talk – 16 hours ago "Game of Thrones" continues its invasion of screen adaptations of Marvel Comics properties as Jason Momoa has been tapped to join the "Guardians of the Galaxy." "Guardians," the undisputed hard-sell of Marvel's Phase Two films, is follows the adventures of American astronaut Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), the son of an alien father and human mother (read many Greek myths, Marvel writers?) who is reinvented as Star-Lord when he joins up with a team of strange (really strange) superheroes from another dimension: Drax the Destroyer, a slain human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the mystery character in the penultimate scene of "The Avengers"); Groot, a giant walking, talking tree; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a love for loud weapons; and Gamora, the sole surviving member of the Zen Whoberi (you know, them) whose assassin abilities have earned her the title of The Deadliest Woman in the Universe. We'll give you one guess as to which of these creatures Jason Momoa will be playing, according to a scoop by Latino Review (hint: it's not the tree or the raccoon or the girl). Momoa is probably best known for his role as as Dothraki warrior Khal Drogo, who spent a good part of his tenure on "Game of Thrones" scowling and being taught how to have sex whilst actually facing his partner. He also played the title role in director Marcus Nispel's semi-amusing 2011 reboot of "Conan the Barbarian," where he often spiced up his scowling with the occasional smirk. Momoa is the second "Game of Thrones" star to score a Marvel comic book movie this week, following Peter Dinklage joining the cast of Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (Marvel Films probably doesn't like this Fox property being referred to as a "Marvel movie," but you know what we mean). The "Game of Thrones" influence is felt behind the scenes as well, as frequent "GoT" director Alan Taylor is calling the shots on "Thor: The Dark World," which hits theaters on November 8. "Guardians of the Galaxy" will hit theaters on August 1, 2014 as the final Phase Two Marvel film before "The Avengers" reunite in May 2015.

I saw Flight with Denzel Washington last night, also Taken 2 with Liam Neeson. I paid about $1 for each DVD at Redbox. Glad I didn't see either one of those movies at a movie theater. Denzel Washington is a great actor. But Flight was slow for me. Too much moralizing and religion. Liam Neeson is also a fine actor. I thought he was fantastic in Schindler's List. But that was a fantastic movie, with great characters and story. But Taken 2 was just a repeat of Taken 1, which I thought was somewhat unbelievable. Movies are often not to be taken seriously. But a 60-year-old-man playing James Bond, single-handedly attacking 20-30 criminals and destroying all of them, just seems a bit too much for me to swallow. I could swallow Superman, or Batman, or Captain Marvel, mabye because I was a child when I first encountered them, and also because they were obviously fantasy figures. But a 60-year-old actor who out performs James Bond doesn't really appeal to me.

Just because you might want to take a vacation from porn, doesn't mean you have to take a vacation from PU. This is a great site, and the members are what help to make it great. Khan can't arrest you or force you to stay, but do you really want to wake up one winter night, and have Khan's vengeful spirit hovering over your bed? That thought would give me nightmares. ![]() And if you are lucky enough win a raffle prize, I think you've already contributed enough in the past to justify that win. ![]()

Thanks, pat362 and jberryl69. I've always loved movies, but going to a movie today is much more expensive than when I was a kid. So I see far less movies at a theater today. But I don't mind renting a movie at Redbox for $1.31 per movie (including tax). That's a great deal, even if I'm not seeing it on a big screen like at the theater. But then, I don't have to listen to people talking while I'm watching the movie, or finding a parking space, or the other things that can annoy you when going to a movie theater. And the popcorn and drinks are much cheaper at home. Thanks, pat, for the list of TV shows. I've seen Persons of Interest. I think Justified is a great show. But I liked Deadwood even better. And since Deadwood was on HBO, it didn't have all the commercials that Justified has. Actually, I liked Deadwood enough that I even bought the DVDs when they came out.

If you haven't had any drives fail on you, I think you have just been lucky. Mainstream, popular porn sites are not going to disappear tomorrow. But will they still be here 5 or 10 years from now? I have no idea. Will Metart still be updating 10 years form now? Again, no idea. I hope so, I think it's a great site, but they could get shut down by changes in laws, or financial hardship, or whatever. It's easy for me to say, but you would probably be better off trying to delete some of the low quality porn that you've collected, to make room for the newer, better quality content that you might enjoy. It would certainly make your collection more manageable, if you want to find a particular video or photoset.

Does nobody go to the movies any more? I realize there have been few really good movies lately, but there have been at least some. The Denzel Washington movie, Flight, just came out on DVD. You can see it for about $1.00 at Redbox. And there are some interesting series on TV. I like Justified, the crime series with Timothy Oliphant. Nobody watching TV or the movies? I know it's expenseive going to a movie theater, but DVDs are cheap to rent. Or you can stream a movie from Netflx, Amazon, etc. Any good movies or TV shows that anyone wants to recommend, or that you thought were worth watching?

The truth comes out: porn stars are not really stars -- they are constructs. On August 09, 2012 I posted a PU comment on Metart titled: "Is Met-art using robots or clones as models?" The body of my comment is as follows: I've been watching the model named Eufrat, also known as Becki, Euphrates, Jana Hall, Jana P., Jana Potysova, Janette, Juliette, Lenka, Marina, Monique, Patty Glower, Ragan, Tricia, Jana Potyov. She's been modelling at least seven years. You compare her earliest sets to her more recent ones, and you begin to realize she's not aging like a natural human should. Are Met-art and other porn sites saving money by using robots or androids, instead of giving us the real deal? ------- Now, a real life model, or maybe a construct or robot or android or whatever-you-call-them, admits in public what I always suspected: Models are not really stars; instead, they are constructs. And that applies to actors, as well. Read the following article, and the ugly truth will make you cringe: The article talks about a model who has made millions of dollars, because she has been exploited and sexually abused and driven to feel insecure. And not only is she insecure, but shortly after admitting the horrible life she has led, she was forced to participate in a Victoria's Secret fashion show, merely because she could not say no the the fabulous money they offered her. For shame, Victoria's Secret. Paying these innocent and not-so-innocent models gobs of money to wear your horrible clothes! =========== =========== shine.yahoo.com Model Cameron Russell: "Models Are the Most Physically Insecure Women On the Planet" By Elise Sol, Shine Staff | Secrets to Your Success Fri, Feb 1, 2013 1:34 PM EST Cameron Russell is arguably one of the most beautiful women on the planet. Over the past 10 years, she's graced the cover of Vogue, frolicked in a bikini for numerous fashion ads, and stomped down the runway for Victoria's Secret. But don't assume she has it all. She doesn'tand she's the first one to admit it. The 25-year-old model recently gave a presentation at the global series TED, on life as a model. She began by saying, I am standing on this stage because I am a pretty white woman and in my industry we call that a 'sexy girl.' I am going to answer some of the questions people ask me but with an honest twist." Russell explained that while a model's lifestyle is filled with travel, glamour, and working with brilliant creatives, that's only a glossy exterior for the corruption and sometimes manipulative nature of the modeling industry, describing how when she started out as a model, she had to act sexual at photo shoots having never even had a boyfriend. While explaining that she often gets asked how one becomes a model, Russell says, "....The real way I became a model is I won a genetic lottery and I became the recipient of a legacy. Saying you want to be a model when you grow up is akin to saying you want to win the Powerball when you grow up. It's awesome and it's out of your control and it's not a career path." While showing photos of her in both fashion spreads juxtaposed against photos of her in real life, Russell says, "These pictures are not pictures of me, they're constructions," says Russell. "They're constructions by professionals hairstylists, make up artists, photographers stylists and all of their assistants and pre-production and post-production and they build this. That's not me." But the most insightful part of her talk is when Russel confesses: "I am insecure. Because I have to think about what I look like every day. If you ever are wondering, 'If I have thinner thighs and shinier hair will I be happier?' you just need to meet a group of models because they have the thinnest thighs and the shiniest hair and the coolest clothes and they're the most physically insecure women on the planet." It makes sense. When a woman is valued primarily for her physical appearance, it can be easy for her to believe that her beauty is her only form of currency. If looks are the focus of a woman's day, they will inevitably occupy most of her thoughts and drive her fears. No wonder models are so insecure. Russell's words are indeed powerful, but just weeks after her Ted Talk she walked in the Victoria's Secret fashion show. Is she being hypocritical by criticizing the modeling industry while also cashing in on it? "Not at all," says Bethany Marshall, Ph.D., a psychoanalyst in Beverly Hills, CA. "She sounds grounded in reality. We all have to use our assets and gifts to advance ourselves in life. If she was a math genius and refused to go to college, we'd be critical of her. The fact is, she's a gorgeous womanwhy shouldn't she use that to advance her life? Her beauty is a resource and an instrument. The difference is, we don't envy the math genius. We envy the model." This isn't the first time models have let us in on the secrets of the industry. In 2012, Tyra Banks penned an open letter to models praising Vogue for banning images of anorexia. And in 2010, Victoria's Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes spoke out about her struggle to attain the ideal figure, saying: "I probably fit the sample size once, when I was eleven or twelve. It became a problem I was always told lots of times that I should lose weight. It was a thing, You look great, but you should probably lose a few pounds. That kept going on until I was about 22, and when I was like, This is crazy, because I would look in the mirror and I like the way I look."

Porn stars, and former porn stars, can be considered people. They can have beliefs and opinions like anyone else. Have any other porn stars retired and tried to promote something other than porn? Yes, because they don't automatically drop dead once they have retired from porn.

The article below is mainly just speculation. But if Daniel Craig is actually cut from the sequel to “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, it seems to me the new movie will probably lack the impact of the first movie. The two main characters of the series are Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander. You cut out Mikael Blomkvist, and you have a gaping hole that deviates too much from the novels. Maybe it's just a marketing ploy, in salary negotiations. But if Daniel Craig doesn't return for the sequel, or his character is written out entirely, the value of the sequel will be seriously damaged, in my opinion. ====== ====== yahoo.com Daniel Craig’s to be cut from ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’? By Danny Bowes | Movie Talk – 22 hours ago Fans of Daniel Craig's performance in 2011's “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” may be in for an unpleasant surprise in the sequel: his character, crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist may be written out of the film entirely. “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” based as “Dragon Tattoo” on a novel by the late Stieg Larsson, focuses a lot more on “The Girl,” hacker extraordinaire Lisbeth Salander (played by rising star Rooney Mara). But the reason Blomkvist may be cut has more to do with commerce than art. Sony's disappointment in the box-office returns for “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” which grossed $233 million worldwide on a reported budget of $90 million, far short of their hopes, led them to tighten the purse strings for the sequel. Daniel Craig, on the other hand, was just in the phenomenally successful “Skyfall,” which led him to ask for an increase in pay for “The Girl Who Played With Fire.” As this runs contrary to Sony's more fiscally responsible plan, they are reportedly balking. The tactic of simply writing the character out of the sequel is not without precedent. In William Goldman's 1997 screen adaptation of the novel “Absolute Power,” the novel's protagonist was completely cut, and the thief character played by director Clint Eastwood was elevated to the lead. Even then, “Absolute Power” was a far lower-profile novel and film. As a cost-cutting measure, cutting Craig's character is at best a counterintuitive one: screenwriter Steven Zaillan's script has already cost Sony quite a bit of money (the Oscar-winning writer's rate is quiet high) and the level of rewrites mandated by cutting one of the two lead characters could potentially cost even more than increasing Craig's salary. Daniel Craig's representatives have denied the reports that he's seeking a salary increase, saying those negotiations have yet to begin. It could be that this entire notion of cutting him is a preemptive negotiating tactic by the studio. Little has yet been concretely decided with regards to “The Girl Who Played With Fire,” even if director David Fincher is returning. With none of Fincher's other projects currently presenting a conflict, it's conceivable that if all the salary negotiations end up going smoothly, that the sequel could go into production rather quickly. If that's the case, the multitudes of Millenium Trilogy fans could find the next installment arriving in cinemas sooner rather than later.

yahoo.com Movie Talk Tony Stark’s home destroyed in Super Bowl spot, represents millions in damage By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk – 22 hours ago Part of taking Iron Man out of the comic books and onto the big screen involved moving his home base from New York to the West Coast. Original "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau decided to put Tony Stark's house atop a Malibu seaside cliff -- where it becomes a target of devastation in "Iron Man 3." As we ascertained when the first teaser trailer came out in October, Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) gets attacked on his home turf. And in the new 30-second teaser trailer airing during this Sunday's Super Bowl game, we see more footage of the annihilation. We also see terrorist leader The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) and his 10 powerful rings -- leaving us wondering if the rings will somehow transform into the alien artifacts depicted in the original comic. And how on earth is he behind the air attack on Stark's house? What has us even more curious about the new television spot and subsequent trailer is the ultra-modern home itself and how it would fit into the real world. Stark's multistory house has a vast subterranean workshop where he creates and repairs his suits. The home is jam-packed with cool mechanized features -- including roll-away windows that enable Stark's speedy, suited up takeoffs. The Razor served as 'Iron Man' inspiration The Razor served as 'Iron Man' inspiration (Photo Courtesy of Hurwitz James Company)Stark's estate was inspired by a real-life house that goes by "The Razor," designed by renowned architect Wallace E. Cunningham. The 11,000-square-foot house in La Jolla, California, took six years to build and was completed in 2008. The futuristic, open estate is made with white polished concrete and nearly defies physics with floor-to-ceiling glass that allows for uninterrupted ocean views. It has been featured in commercials for Calvin Klein and Visa. The Razor last sold for $14 million. Chump change for Stark - the business head of Stark Industries. But in the film, Stark lives in Malibu -- where properties are valued even higher than the already pricey properties of La Jolla. If Stark's home was real, and in Malibu, it would go for $40 million, says Shen Schulz of Sotheby's International realty. And Stark's celebrity neighbors, according to Schulz, would be Pink, Kenny G, Barbra Streisand (whose home is said to be worth $12 million), and Owen Wilson. One irony: The environment depicted that surrounds the house is actually nearby Point Dume -- a state park where no residents are allowed to live. "In the 1950s it was a government site for armory," Schulz says, pointing out that the ground is level there because the government flattened it. Interior of Tony Stark's house in 'Iron Man 3'Notice how Stark's living area looks similar to The Razor's interior above (Photo: Marvel Studios)Beyond the much more valuable human casualties at stake when Stark's home is attacked, his estimated $40 million home -- not to mention that it's presumably filled with all of his precious, cutting-edge tech toys -- and you have a very hefty price tag on its destruction. The Mandarin had better pay up!

Demanding justice for Deandre Brunston by: Martha Hancock & Joseph Hancock July 15 2005 tags: Police, Los Angeles COMPTON, Calif. — It was a bittersweet Sunday afternoon in Compton, a small city on the south side of Los Angeles. Keishia Brunston, a young African American woman, called together friends and neighbors for a backyard barbecue to raise money and call attention to the police terror that is being visited upon her community. Brunston has formed the Justice for Deandre Brunston Campaign in response to the police killing of her 24-year-old nephew, Deandre, who was shot and killed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies that patrol Compton and the nearby area of Willowbrook on Aug. 24, 2003. Deputies had responded to a domestic disturbance call where Deandre Brunston lived. Afraid for his life, Deandre, who was unarmed, jumped out of a second-story window and fled on foot. The deputies cornered him nearby, and handcuffed him. They then unleashed an attack dog on him, and began shooting. When it was over, Deandre had been shot a total of 22 times, and over 80 rounds of ammunition had been discharged from three police guns. The deputies didn’t just shoot an innocent African American man; they also shot their own dog. After they realized that they had shot the dog, they called for an ambulance and airlifted the dog to a nearby veterinary hospital in Norwalk, where the animal eventually died, while they left young Brunston on the street to bleed to death. In response to this tragedy, Keishia Brunston has brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “We need people in the courtroom,” she told those gathered at the July 10 barbecue. “Sheriffs were put in Compton and they replaced the Compton police force. The sheriffs are not from our community. We didn’t get to vote on putting the sheriffs in our community. They are definitely not out to protect us. They’re out to kill us.” Brunston pointed out that this “genocidal” policy of the police is targeting people of color. “The sheriffs are an invading army in Compton,” she said. “They are trying to close the hospital and they are trying to close the college. We need to educate the public about what is going on.” The solution that is being put forward by the Community Coalition for Control of the Police is for civilian police review boards to be established in each of these communities. Another group being advised by the ACLU is calling for federal oversight of the police agencies involved, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. There are a total of 87 smaller cities in Los Angeles County that surround the City of Angels. If you venture into any of these communities, you quickly discover that they are reminiscent of the old South before the civil rights movement. Compton is one of those communities where police violence against law-abiding citizens goes unchecked.

Do a google search with the terms "cop shoots unarmed man" and see the results returned. If a cop shoots you, and you are unarmed, the cop will claim self-defense, or that he used justifiable force. Even if you are running away at the time, and the cop shoots you in the back multiple times.

I believe most cops who gets pulled over for a traffic violation, whether it's speeding or something else, when they off duty, will be annoyed they were pulled over. And it's just "professional courtesy" that they don't get a ticket. To take it a step further: Any cop who shoots a suspect, whether the suspect is armed or not, believes he has used justifiable force. And that includes a suspect who is running away from the cop. And the cop's police department will normally back the cop up. Check the news reports if you don't believe what I wrote. It's very common, when a police officer shoots an unarmed man, that the police investigate the shooting, clears the police officer of any wrong-doing, and often the police officer is hailed for bravery on the job. Even when a city settles federal civil-rights lawsuits in claims of police abuse for hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece, the normal position of the city involved is that "a settlement in a police case does not indicate wrongdoing on the part of the officer."

School today is far different from when I was a kid. I didn't have to make any science project until I was in high school, when I was maybe 16 or 17 years old. Today's kids are doing science projects in grammar school. Today, I am in my 60s. But if I entered a similar project in a science fair, I would probably be arrested. Here's a 10-year-old girl, who used 3 drug-sniffing dogs and 1 ounce of cocaine, supplied by her father, who is a cop, as her entry in a science fair. Note that John Schuster, a spokesman for the school district, issued a statement saying that cocaine is not a specifically banned substance. Also note that the mother of the girl stated that her husband (a cop) is "always very meticulous about how he handles drugs. I would have thought the article was a spoof, except that it's apparently a real news report. --------------- --------------- Fourth-grader wins science fair with drug-sniffing dogs, ounce of cocaine By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Sideshow 2 hrs 15 mins ago A detective provided his daughter with drug-sniffing dogs, like the one pictured here. (Getty Images) In an early bid for Father of the Year, a Miami police detective allowed his 10-year-old daughter to use three drug-sniffing dogs and an ounce of cocaine for a science fair project, according to the Miami Herald. Douglas Bartelt, a detective with the Miami-Dade Police Narcotics Bureau, provided his daughter, Emma, with three detector canines and 28 grams of cocaine (street value: approximately $1,300) for her entry into Coral Gables Preparatory Academy's annual science fair. Not surprisingly, she won. The first-place honor gave Emma an automatic entry into the Miami -Dade Elementary Schools Science Fair, where her drug-sniffing project earned an honorable mention. The purpose for this scientific investigation was to find which dog would find the cocaine fastest using its [sic] sense of smell, the fourth-grader wrote in the abstract for her project, titled "Drug Sniffing Dogs." Bartelt, according to the Miami Herald, fellow detective William Pedraja and Sgt. Samantha Machado provided the dogs (a springer spaniel named Roger; Levi, a golden retriever; and Franky, a retired chocolate labrador) and the cocaine. (Franky showed he's still got the touch, locating the illegal substance in 43 seconds.) Emma's mother, Michelle Bartelt, said the experiment was her daughter's idea and that Emma was under constant supervision and "did not touch the cocaine." [Doug] handled the drugs, she said. Hes always very meticulous about how he handles drugs. John Schuster, a spokesman for the school district, issued a statement saying the project, while unusual, did not violate any of the science fair's rulesand that cocaine is not a specifically banned substance. The students science project involved a very unusual set of circumstances, including having a parent who is a well-respected police detective with experience in training dogs that sniff for illegal substances," Schuster's statement read. "From our understanding, the parent was the only person involved in working directly with the dogs and the hidden substances, which took place at a police training facility. Edited on Jan 31, 2013, 08:54am

‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Doctor Strange’ will lead the charge for Marvel’s Phase Three By Bryan Enk | Movie Talk – 17 hours ago What are the two best adjectives to describe the third round of Marvel Films? For now, it's "small" and "weird." It's the little guy who's first out of the gate after "The Avengers 2" bows during the summer of 2015, as Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige has revealed that "Ant-Man" will be the official party-starter for Phase Three of the superhero saga. "'Ant-Man' is definitely part of Phase Three," Feige said in a recent interview with MTV News. "Like 'Iron Man 3,' it's certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it's also through the lens of Edgar Wright -- which is the only reason we're making the movie." Indeed, many Marvel fans feel that the only reason they're excited for an "Ant-Man" movie is because it's being made by the director of "Shaun of the Dead" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World." One can only imagine the bizarre energy and imagination he's going to bring to the story of Henry Pym, a brilliant scientist who invents a substance that turns him really, really small. And what other new characters might be introduced to the expanded Marvel Universe during this third phase? "'Doctor Strange,' which I've been talking about for years, is definitely one of them," Feige confirmed. "He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is 'Ant-Man,' which keeps us excited." Stephen Strange was a neurosurgeon whose career comes to an abrupt end after his hands are damaged in a car accident. After tracking down a Himalayan hermit known as the Ancient One, Strange is taught the mystical arts and reinvents himself as Doctor Strange, the "mightiest magician in the cosmos." A stand-alone "Doctor Strange" movie is still in the planning stages, and hopefully Marvel will remain "excited" about it enough to actually make it ... which certainly wasn't the case with the "Black Panther" movie, which seems to have been abandoned in favor of "Guardians of the Galaxy." Anyway, let's not get too ahead of ourselves here. Before we delve into Phase Three, we have the Phase Two films to look forward to, starting with "Iron Man 3" (May 3) and followed by "Thor: The Dark World" (November ![]()

By the way, the list prices on watches can be misleading. I am looking at a watch on Amazon. The list price is $895.00. Amazon's regular price for the watch is $149.99. But today's deal price at Amazon is $99.99.

I agree with you 150% about being able to throw my clothes into the washer. But a few pieces of clothes that I bought, after I bought them, I noticed it said "dry clean only". So I wore those for years, until they wear out, because it's been over 40 years since I took any clothes to a cleaner. As far as expensive watches, I've seen some watches on Amazon (Rolex, whatever) that are over 100,000, over 200,000 dollars, and more. I've never paid over $40 for a watch. I think the Casio DW5600E-1V G-Shock Classic Digital Watch is now about $40 on Amazon. The Casio G-Shock I had before my current one lasted over 15 years: I never replaced the battery. But finally the band was falling apart and I got a new one.

Trader Joe's (a retail grocery chain in the U.S.) has increased the price of their $2 bottle of wine to $2.49. I've never tried the wine. Almost never drink any wine. But I assume it's supposed to be better than you would think, for a $2 bottle of wine. -------------- Trader Joe's: No 'Two-Buck Chuck' Wine in Calif. By Lauren Torrisi | ABC News Blogs 6 hrs ago Don't worry "Two-Buck Chuck" fans, it's not as bad as you think. "The price change for Charles Shaw wines is only happening in California, no other states are affected," said Alison Mochizuki, director of public relations for Trader Joe's, in a statement. The price increase, which went from $1.99 to $2.49, took effect on January 16. "Maintaining value is of the utmost importance at Trader Joe's and we work hard to have every item in the store at an intersection of quality and price that highlights outstanding value. In general, our retail prices change only when our costs change. In the case of Shaw in California, we've held a $1.99 retail price for 11 years. Quite a bit has happened during those years and the move to $2.49 allows us to offer the same quality that has made the wine famous the world over," said the statement. The price of a bottle of Charles Shaw wine varies in different states depending on tax rates and other variables. "Alcohol availability & price may vary due to state laws, taxes, shipment fees & other such stuff. (If we could, we would.)," their website states. When news first broke that Trader Joe's would be upping their inexpensive Charles Shaw wine fans of the product started re-thinking the name. "Up Chuck" and "Inflation Chuck" were some of the suggestions.

If I were a heavy drinker, I might consider moving to Ireland. Unfortunately, I drink very little, or not at all most of the time. So I will have to find some other place to move to. ======================= Irish County Lets Some Drive Drunker? By Daniel Clark | ABC News – 19 hrs ago The County Kerry Council in southwest Ireland passed a measure on Monday that allows rural drivers to legally drive while under the influence of alcohol. The council voted 5-3 - with 12 absent and seven abstaining - to issue special permits to individuals who live in rural areas and wish to drive home on remote countryside roads after consuming two to three alcoholic beverages. The council will have to rely on Justice Minister Alan Shatter to implement the changes to current drinking and driving laws by issuing special permits. Councilor and County Kerry pub owner Danny Healy-Rae introduced the bill, arguing that citizens driving while intoxicated in rural areas have never killed anyone. He defended the measure by asserting that it would prevent loneliness and reduce the risk of suicides among those who live in Ireland's backcountry. "A lot of these people are living in isolated rural areas where there's no public transport of any kind, and they end up at home looking at the four walls, night in and night out, because they don't want to take the risk of losing their license," Healy-Rae told TheJournal.ie. Tougher drunk driving laws have been credited with reducing the number of people killed on Irish roads. The overall number of road deaths has fallen by 56 percent in the last five years and in 2012, 161 people were killed, the lowest since records were kept, according to the Road Safety Authority. In addition to lowering the legal limit from 80 mg per 100 ml of blood (.08 percent in U.S. terms) to 50 mg, Irish authorities have also increased the volume of mandatory alcohol checkpoints. The Irish Department of Transport, Alcohol Action Ireland and the Road Safety Authority have all voiced opposition to the proposal, citing the overwhelming evidence linking alcohol consumption with impaired driving. "Unfortunately, rural areas are among the most dangerous roads in Ireland. We need to be looking at how to make our roads safer, particularly in rural areas, instead of trying to reverse existing measures, which are clearly working," an Irish Department of Transport spokesman told Sky News.

I saw a late night talk show program recently, where Matt Damon appeared as a guest. He said that one of the first awards shows he went to, he wore a designer tux that cost more than all the clothes he had ever worn up to that time, combined. I assume he was exagerating, to make a good story even better. But I have no doubt that the price of the tux he wore was much more expensive than any clothing he had ever worn before. The tux was free to wear, but I don't know if he was able to keep the tux, or just wear it for that one occassion. But this was many years ago, when he was like in his twenties. And I doubt that he got paid to wear it. And I think that turboshaft is probably right: Male actors don't get paid the big bucks that female actors can get paid for wearing designer dresses and jewelry. But male actors can make large amounts of money appearing in commercials, or doing voice over work for commercials. Even Brad Pitt does commercials.

I don't have a top 10 list. There are so many beautiful and attractive models in porn, in the past, and new ones coming out all the time, that to list them all, would take a top 1000 list or more, and to try to put them in descending order of attractiveness would be futile. A lot of these models are just plain fucking gorgeous. Or at least their photos are incredibly gorgeous.

I assumed or guessed that big-name stars can wear designer dresses to the Oscars or other big events, for free. But I didn't realize that they could get paid to wear those dresses or jewelry. I guess I'm just naive. ======== ======== Hefty paychecks can shape Oscars’ star styles By Kwala Mandel | Yahoo! Movies Oscars Blog – Fri, Jan 18, 2013 6:12 PM EST Big-name designers spend millions on ad campaigns — but it turns out they can pay an additional price to make sure their styles are seen on A-list celebrities for events like the Oscars and Grammys. The fees for actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway to wear a fabulous gown or diamond jewelry can be as high as $750,000. Some call it the industry's "dirty little secret" because it's "really aggressive" and "there are hundreds of thousands of dollars spent." But other top stylists say there is nothing wrong with the practice. "Of course it happens. I'm an advocate for it," says stylist Jessica Paster, who has worked with award show favorites including Cate Blanchett and Dakota Fanning, and says it is similar to advertising for a company. "If a celebrity wants to endorse a certain line, why shouldn't they? If they love the line, why not?" Paster says the "dream" celebrities that fashion and jewelry houses pursue (and pay) are the nominees during award season. "It happens more for big award shows," she says. "Or designers ask if celebs can endorse them for a year and go to shows. What they are trying to do is start a relationship with the actor that lasts beyond the Oscars. If designers are enamored with actresses who are high-profile and it makes sense, there is nothing wrong with that. It is seen like an endorsement or an ambassador." One designer has spent years lending million-dollar jewels to red-carpet stars. The jewels are always lent for free (with the occasional thank-you token for the celebrity, like a diamond necklace or pendant). However, some of the jewelry heavyweights — like Chopard and Tiffany & Co. — began to throw in big figures to lure celebrities. "Chopard was the one who got that going and started giving people checks for wearing their jewelry," says a source, who adds that representatives for celebrities like Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard often set up the deals for their clients (much like a film or commercial). "The designers were getting free press, so the agents and managers got involved in negotiating it like an endorsement deal," says the jeweler. "Chopard was paying well into six figures. Agents and managers don't bother if it is only 10 or 20 grand, because they are also getting a cut, so it needs to be worth it." Jennifer Lawrence, who recently wore Chopard at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, was said to have been paid $100,000 to wear Chopard earrings at this year's Golden Globe Awards. And that number pales in comparison to what Hathaway reportedly earned during the 2011 Oscars. "When Anne Hathaway hosted the Oscars with James Franco, Tiffany's was rumored to have paid her $750,000 to wear their jewelry," says the jewelry insider, who spoke to Tiffany's about the reported number and says they didn't deny it. While some stylists vent that being locked into one designer can limit creativity, Paster is not complaining, as long as the gowns and jewels are beautiful. Representatives for Tiffany & Co. and Chopard did not respond to requests for comments.
