PU is generally a free and easy site where members can post their thoughts and opinions on just about everything.
But if a particular thread becomes overheated because of differing opinions, then the thread should be moderated.
But I don't think I've ever seen that happen in the 10+ years I've been following PU.
Not everyone agrees with everyone else's opinions, of course.
And there are occasional squabbles.
But not to the point where anyone has called another member out for pistols for 2 at dawn.
(At least, it hasn't been reported in any newspaper I've read.)
On the other hand, think of the national publicity PU could enjoy, if it was reported that PU members, because of their fierce political views, had explosive disagreements that led to bloodshed and assassinations.
Raise the Red Flag of Freedom, says I!!!

P.S.
I've never joined facebook or twitter.
Would it be worthwhile joining those sites/services to be able to read Donald J. Trump's tweets directly?
I'm afraid that all I get is second-hand news on the President's tweets.
Which appear to be the most important part of his Presidential duties.

There are many political and social groups out there who want to ban pornography and adult content. There is a need to discuss political issues here as it does affect Porn Users in general.
There are forum rules to make sure the discussion remains cordial. Banning and deleting political threads may do more harm than good.

No. As long as the discussions are civil than why should we be ban them. Let me rephrase that last part by adding that the subjects should be legal. Child pornography, bestiality scat porn should definitely be avoided.

Mmmmm. A web site primarily dedicated to people who look at and talk about porn (an illegal subject in many parts of the world) wants to limit discussion about politics? The smell of hypocrisy and college "safe spaces" antics is just a tad too overwhelming for me on this one.

I'm indifferent but would lean to allowing them because we have shown ourselves to be a pretty reasonable group. But then again, politics is so polarized today it may be hard for some to remain civil.
A good rule that was always imposed in the officer's mess in Canada, and I assume elsewhere, is that talk of politics or religion was distasteful and shouldn't happen.

I'm generally not for banning things. Unless you are actually harming another person I don't think it's good to limit people. And it's a slippery slope with no end. But I do find it odd to post political things here unless it is somehow relevant to pornography. Otherwise why not do it somewhere focused on politics? Just to be snarky?

It honestly doesn't bother me. The main purpose of this forum is of course to discuss our beloved hobby, reviewing websites, helping each other to find what we are looking for. I'm from Europe and I daily read
the national and international news. I'm not pretending that I don't care about what happens in my country as well as in the rest of the world on the contrary. However being European it is often hard to follow and understand foreign politics. In general I don't like politicians. Before they are elected they make a lot of promises but once they are elected they change their agendas and never in the favor of the people. All they do is telling a bunch of lies, one scandal after another, filling their pockets with tons of money and they don't give a rats ass what people want or need. In fact they financially bleed us dry and take advantage of that. Why do you think so many people want to be a politician? Because they know how much they can earn with it and it's all tax free. Besides in my country they can be politician and still do their normal job.

I don't think allowing or not is what we should be talking about.
Politics is very personal and discussions have led to big problems among my friends and family.
I think discussing politics is a bad idea, but I don't think that PU should have a policy.

I think political discussions are a bad idea.
I think members hijacking a thread to turn a discussion into something much more political is a really bad idea.
I think members not having respect for other members opinions is where things get off track.
But no, I don't think political discussions should be banned.
It kind of reminds me of the gay reviewers we have had on here and the straight reviewer who liked transsexual porn and reviewed transsexual sites. You can see that none of them are active anymore. It's an unenviable situation to be on a forum or site that allows freedom of expression because so many people, especially Americans, don't think those who are different than them should have freedom of expression.
But, as Khan used to say, most of us members land on the pornusers (dotcomslash) home site. We don't see the PU agreed 7 rules that we saw the first time we came here. Those are at pornusers.com and he always pointed out #5.
"5. I believe in the freedom of expression provided for in the Constitution of the United States of America."
I think that answers if anything should ever banned. Members are supposed to agree to those 7 rules before entering.

No, because politics plays in to porn with free speech issues etc.

Can we go macro for a minute? This is a great community, but sometimes there are bad players. PU has a "report" option in every thread but I'm guessing people don't use it very often. Like the "trust" ratings, there is also a potential for people to abuse the process "reporting" others who don't share their views on a particular site, etc.
PU members are a rare breed and it is refreshing being able to talk about so many un-PC things. I mean, just saying the letters BDSM in public these days is likely to get you arrested. (kidding...mostly.)
How do we develop a system where people are free to say what they want, but those who make particularly biased, racist or religously tainted comments are politely told that their comments are not appreciated? I honestly don't know.
Ultimately, like the Whopr discovered in the 80's movie War Games, perhaps the best way to win when people are trolling or presenting controvercial comments is NOT TO PLAY. Just don't respond to nonsense. If you do, you are only provoking more.

REPLY TO #6 - rearadmiral :
I think most of the time the rule about topics at the diner table is SEX, politics and religion. Fortunately, PU covers the first item quite nicely. Facebook and Twitter seem to have a handle on the other two.

REPLY TO #13 - skippy :
I remember once that a communications professional describe Twitter as 'the angriest place on the planet.' I don't have a twitter account and while my wife created a FB account for me I've never been on it.
