Buy porn --> demand for cosmetics, lingerie, cameras, gym memberships, attorneys, etc. etc. etc. is at least less likely to slump, no?
Not to say this stimulus package has been anything but reactive (certainly not proactive) and politically motivated (election year). Had there been the obviously necessary oversight on mortgage lending, we wouldn't be in such a mess.
I get so tired of these politicians and "theorists" warning against regulation. Sure, too much wouldn't do, but too little is no better. Anybody know anything about the stock market crash in '29? And why it happened? Just thought I'd give a wee example. There are PLENTY more!
Why, after all, do we need police? People do not necessarily act for the greater good.

Well... it doesn't really fit the poll question, but you've tapped into the biggest part of my rage here, so I couldn't resist commenting.
In regards to our economy here in the States, no one but the middle class is looking at what's really going on and where we're headed. We (the middle class) are being wiped out and it doesn't take an economics major to know that a capitalist economy can't exist without consumers. But the politicians are more worried about crap like finding a way to collect taxes from the illegals than actually doing something to fix the mess they created. They'll throw bandages like the ridiculous economic stimulus checks at the problem and just keep selling our jobs to the lowest bidder, usually to a foreign country or the aforementioned illegals.
I could rant about this for w-a-y too long, so I'll just cut it short. Go watch the movie Zeitgeist. I see it as a little insight to what's been, what is and what's going to be.

Internet porn, no? A fun trip to my fave strip club - most likely - I can think of some gorgeous honeys that I'd like to stimulate - economically and otherwise!

If I was "living in the USSR" - sorry, USA - I'd use my PU-winnings on porn. But for this scandinavian user I have to go for Amazon.com - got some paperbacks (a lot of Tim Dorsey) and some fine porn-dvds (via Amazon, they can do that also).

Eisenhower famously warned about the military-industrial complex, but now we've got a corporate/government-military-industrial complex with elected leaders that just pay us lip service and allow crises like the present one to take place and then use them as opportunities to look as if they're doing something by tacking on bandaids, as you call them too, such as this "Economic Stimulus" nonsense.
It's actually not hard to fathom that they actually intentionally allow these problems to fester so they'll have something to hoot about come election time, telling us what they'll do to fix these problems they've created for us in health care/insurance and in financial sectors, to name two. As you can tell, I don't have a whole lot of trust in the government.
They don't even have the money for this "stimulus" anyway! The government's in the worst debt it's ever been in! It's ridiculous! Will I spend some of mine on porn? What difference would it make? And they tell us to go out and spend it. Excuse me, but hasn't the problem been one of insolvency? Wouldn't a better savings rate have a more lasting effect? They must really think we're dumb, and maybe a lot of us are.

I'm happy to see this poll is sparking lots of commentary and still hoping to see someone choose "Oh yes! All of it!" - the stimulus package is such a silly idea. $300 or $600, dependent on if you are single or married, is just a measly sum. I certainly believe there are only a limited number of places the money is going to go; and fancy electronics or propane grills aren't any of those places. Some people will pay bills, some people will save it and most people will blow it on the same ol' crap they always spend money on: burgers, beer and cigarettes.
I wish I could say I was going to drop $300 into porn just because it would be wildly amusing for me that my money would be sent to some Eastern European or South American porn studio rather than pumping back into the U.S. economy as the idiot political backers want. What stemmed this of course was that I had just received a notice that I was for-the-love-of-god-not-to-throw-away-because-it-tells-you-vastly-important-information-about-the-economic-stimulus-payment!! It's important message for me? Do nothing. Payment should come sometime in May. I'm floored. My life would be in tatters had I not read that notice.
So to the question at hand - will I be spending the money on porn? Sadly no - it'll be running off to bills I'm sure. Do I think it is a good idea? No. Will I take the money? Yes - they take too much of my money anyway - fighting wars for petrol and such... Am I doing my best to not use too much petrol? Well... I do have a little electronic gauge in my car that tells me how much I'm using - but I'm still running a V6 just to get to work... Yeah, still an American - oh well, maybe I'll get that British sports car I fancy and waste a little less gasoline in the future. It only costs 30 grand... yeesh. All hail porn! (For it only costs 30 buckazoids.)

The sensible answer for unexpected money should be to invest it so that it can make more money. The problem with that is where to invest it. You can give it to a financial adviser who will use all of your and other peoples money to invest and make a tidy profit for him and his firm, but which you will not see much of because middle class aren't suppose to make money. Or he'll invest it badly in which case you'll wind up with less than before.
The fact of the matter is that the middle class is all but disapearing. A society cannot survive without a middle class. It's certainly not the rich who pay taxes, because they can always find loop holes to keep their money, and the poor simply don't have enough money to live let alone save any.

Im a single working college student. I assume I will get like 300 dollars. I possibly will use some for porn( say 50 dollars), and the rest on my bills.

The idea is not bad, and it certainly will not hurt me any to have the money. However, I dont think hat a few hundred bucks will go that far, particularly if you consider the current value of the dollar. Seriously, that is only a few months worth of gas for most people. And a few hundred dollars will not pay all the bills that people owe! But I feel kinda strange for saying this, but it should not be used on porn or other non essentials. But I can see many people pissing it away at the bar or the track. Sad.

That movie I mentioned, if you can see it as anywhere near plausible, will answer the questions you posed in your last paragraph. Yeah, on the average, we're just stupid. If not stupid, just complacent. It took my losing a job that allowed me to live comfortably to wake me up. That's why I've been hoping I'll live long enough to see it all fall apart here, as in total economic collapse. It sure will be nice to see the looks on the faces of the people who are selling this country out when they wake up as poor I am.
Or, maybe I'm just naïve. Does anybody see a practical solution to digging us out from the slide? And I don't mean pipe dreams like expecting the Republicans to suddenly wake up and say they're sorry...

Complacency has a lot to do with it. As long as people don't feel uncomfortable enough, they tend to do little or nothing. Most people, anyway. (The strivers will always be working to get more and/or create more.)
And then there's hubris. It's funny how the Spitzer sex scandal brought on a discussion of the pitfalls of having too much of that. It's nothing new, though, considering myriad other scandals involving gov't and/or business, and those events that should be considered scandals (e.g., the Libby pardon, the phony WMD in Iraq) by our "liberal" (yeah right) media.
I don't know if Winston Churchill meant stupidity when he said something to the effect that probably the best evidence against democracy can be found by having a chat with the average voter.

Happily, the answer for me is "no." Porn is still
cheap enough of a hobby for me that the stimulus
money isn't a factor in getting it.

Although I don't live in the US, our man in Australia - Kevin Rudd - has already implemented an ecomonic stim. & is about to implement another one. Most of it I'll be squirelling away for a new car.
