Usually try to cancel within a week, in case there are problems with the cancellation. I've been lucky so far, no problems, no extra billing charges.

Typically within a week. Some sites might offer discounts for sticking around, so for those I cancel closer to the deadline, just in case there's some kind of time-sensitive script for that purpose. I have no evidence for this, though.
But if I'm irked, I'll typically cancel within 3 days of signup.

With me It's usually sometime between 3 days a week. But it depends on how active the site is, how quick the admin is to respond, and how much I liked it.
I've had one occasion where the admin took a week to reply to my email, but the second I canceled my subscription it took effective within 2 days. I've also had it where I canceled and it took 2 months for my account to actually become inactive. I wasn't charged so I didn't mind it at all of course.

Most of the time, within a week. Unless it's a site that I really dislike or that doesn't update anymore, then I cancel pretty much days, if not hours within singing up.

95% of the time I cancel within the first week. By then I know if the site is worth having a rebill or not. Sometimes its not even the site though, sometimes its my mood for that niche.

I usually wait until about 3-4 days before I cancel a membership. I haven't yet seen an offer that made me want to stick beyond the first month.
I sometime regret the fact that an upcoming update will have something that interest me, but not enough to fork out another 25-30$. I'll wait a couple of months and then re-join.

It varies a lot but as a matter of caution I try to cancel at least one week before expiration on a monthly and ASAP on trials. I just want to make sure that the cancellation gets processed and acknowledged before the rebill cycle. So far this has never let me down.

I'm usually in the within a week crowd.
Recently, I had a 2 day trial and forgot what time I had originally signed up at and canceled with about 30 minutes left until a rebill.
If a site ends the membership when it would have run out (like they all should) and not the second you cancel it, then I will try and cancel early so I don't put it off and forget. How convenient that so many sites offer instantaneous access, but it can take days to "process" a cancellation!

For me it varies as to when I make my decision and how solid my decision is. If I'm decided for sure that I'm cancelling a site, then I cancel - regardless of when the renew date is. I'd rather give the site time to process the cancellation. If I'm on the fence about cancelling, I might well wait until a couple of days before the renew. cc-bill is very dependable about processing cancellations even with that kind of notice. Other sites and processing companies aren't as good.
The Bad New Trend - no confirmations. Private.com still refuses to communicate with me - and I've e-mailed and used their form on their site many multiple times. Since they never responded to my refund request, I cancelled again - again no e-mail response and my membership info still works - so they must have charged me again - so now I'll e-mail them over & over and write to my credit card company as well.
I decided to try Danni.com for a month - no e-mail confirmation when I joined and when I cancelled, they had all these next screens coming up where they want you to comment and the last one I filled out led to a blank screen - so am I cancelled or not? No e-mail confirmation - but I got none when I joined either - unprofessional crap!

This is why I cancel nearly a month a ahead of time, because of crap like this.
Even the best sites have ooopsed my cancellation, funny in the past one reason I started cancelling early was because of Danni.com , rebilling me , but that was like 4 years ago or something, back in the drm days

Provided the site is as advertised, I stay until I've downloaded everything I want. I run a spreadsheet listing sites end membership dates to gauge when or if I return for site updates. If the site is not as advertised, I cancel membership immediately, contact customer service and demand reimbursement for fraudulent site claims.

Most of the time I cancel within one week because that way I can forget about forgetting. :-)

depends on the site. Some sites I just do the one month and I know I dont want to renew. In that that case i cancel right after I join. IN other cases I wait within a week or two.

I'm the one who put "within two weeks." It does vary, but occasionally I even cancel after a week. Sometimes I leave it as late as a week or even a few days, but I generally like to take NO chances.

Well, Danni blew it on the lack of auto-e-mail confirmation, but I can't fault them on their Customer Service responsiveness. When I e-mailed them, they responded in 5 minutes.
Unlike Private.com, where not a soul has responded to me in several weeks and at least a dozen attempts by me to get a response through their site and an e-mail address where they had reponded to me on another matter - they are just thieves, I'm sorry to say. They're up there with the crap=heads that run MyaDiamond.com

Smart thinking is a week for a good billing site. 4-5 days is safe. I do 3 month memberships so I don't want a Re-bill if I'm not into the site and 4-5 days works well with CCBill and other billing sites. If it’s a good site your membership is good for the remaining days.

I generally cancel a little over a week until expiration. I have never had a problem getting re-billed so I stick to this time frame.
