Drooler (Disabled) I said, "Musicians." And by that I don't mean "properties" who look good but aren't all that talented.

Just watched a documentary about the last days of the Fillmore West. 1971. The music was great! The talent pool was incredible! And most of them never got the recognition they deserved.

Lionheart (0) I am going to say other and say "directors" can they be counted as celebrates? There is a lot of pressure when making a good movie or TV show and the director doesn't always get all the recognition he or she deserves.

Colm4 (0) Sports stars. For the rest it's more of a side-job. The Sports people have to dedicate their whole way of life to it.

Agree - even the Fillmore EAST was great - once in a while I still listen to The Allman Brothers Band "At Fillmore East" (1971) and Jefferson Airplane "Bless Its Pointed Little Head" (1969) - also recorded live at Fillmore East... (and not to forget: Some Frank Zappa live came from here).

That kind of music has and will never come back....

Wittyguy (0) I voted "other" because Khan just isn't getting enough face time on "The View" or in "People" magazine. I'm eagerly awaiting 'Khan Tweets' so we can find out about his exciting life ... "just nuked another dumbsh*t post"; "just approved Mbaya's 25th review of week"; "feel asleep reading the crap in the forum" ....

GCode (0) I'd say any kind of writers should get the most recognition. It's funny how actors and directors get the most when the story is usually even created and forged by someone completely different but yet these people get a small text credit at the beginning and ending of a film. If it was not for these creators, the film would never even be created by a director or actor.

I also want to think that great writers of fiction novels should be the most recognized. Honestly, creating an original novel that uses one's imagination and clearly written in text for others to understand takes a lot of talent. Ever tried describing a dream to someone in a clear way that they understand it? While not all stories comes from dreams but it's still the conscience mind and memory that is needed to create these stories and to correctly brainstorm these ideas to create a story for another to understand and enjoy should be recognized the most by society.

Too bad this is only half true, film stars and directors are the most recognized these days. While they are talented and I enjoy almost all the other options in the poll, in my opinion, writers have the most talent and should be the most recognized.

messmer (Disabled) I changed my vote from actors, and there have been some great ones, to writers (others) .. thanks to GCode, he made quite a persuasive argument.

Zappa! Had a friend who turned me on to Zappa and had that Fillmore album. Material from Hot Rats, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, etc. Yes, that stuff comes but once!

pat362 (0) I'll second GCode's choice for writers. All of the others already get more recognition than they deserve.

PinkPanther (0) If someone does great work in their medium - in a way that moves me in some way - I'll give them respect. The only category on this list that doesn't mean shit to me is reality stars - what is that? It's like some self-centered assholes, for the most part - but I do like some talent competitions that have "reality show" components - I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance right now - cause great dancers blow me away and this show has a LOT of great dancers.

Whether you're Meryl Streep or Jenna Haze or Manny Pacquiao or Stone Cold Steve Austin (did I say I'm a pro wrestling fan?), if you do what you do and you do it in an exceptional way that moves me, that's something to respect.

turboshaft (0) I would say musicians, but that's probably because I can't stand mainstream music, so to me all my favorite artists do not get enough recognition, or even enough money, especially when compared to most of those we like to consider "great."

Too many from the first five choices get weird crossover appeal that I hate. Actors and porn stars who think they are politicians; musicians gloating over their fleets of luxury cars and decadent homes; sports stars with their own clothing lines; and reality stars...well, their recognition is what is wrong with them.

I think I should have picked "Other" for none of the above, since I am only starting to rant on this one.

zzzins (0) Much as I agree with GCode that the creators of the art should be most deserving of recognition, I said musicians, mainly as I don't put writers in the "celebrity" box. Celebrities are people who seek adulation and recognition. Being a muso myself and knowing how damn hard it is and would much rather create something worthwhile and know in my heart it was good rather than stand in front of an audience and get their opinion.

TalonIcefire (0) None of the above. Modern American society states that in order to be "somebody", you have to be an entertainer. I say the people to be honored should be the educators. We are quickly becoming mindless barbarians. We pay millions of dollars on entertainment, yet can't seem to pony up a decent budget for our education.

lk2fireone (0) Celebrities, at least the famous ones, get a ton of recognition. It's one of the perks, though celebrities often complain they are not seeking the fame and don't want it. They are really simple folk: they only want the cash, and people to bow down before them whenever they appear in public.
