Yes, I really do feel that I care about them. I don't know them. I don't even know if I'd personally like some of them, though I probably would. But no matter. I wouldn't want any of them to wind up HIV positive, even if it never developed into AIDS.

I have this idea - maybe I'm naive - that today there's better medical check/control - or rather a lot of it - of pornmodels - for their own sake and the other model/models.
Especially when doing anal-stuff.
Guess history has shown different in many ways.
Do not mind watching porn with condoms - and actually, I can get a bit upset if I happen to see that anal stuff without....it's plain stupid (The blood-contact is too risky here) - and some of those latin models live a dangerous life.
Anal sex is the main reason for HIV in the gay world...

I said "Sometimes." The jizz biz is extremely careful about any possible taint of scandal and is very protective of the health of the talent.
Many babes do other things outside of porn, such as escort service and gentlemen's clubs, where they can be exposed to HIV, etc. so the producers will test the bejeebers out of the talent to make sure "shit don't happen."
Thus I voted "sometimes" not for the mainstream talent but for the young babes who just turned 18 and entered the biz and who seem to be so totally brain dead that they may not have any idea of the devastation HIV can cause...so they happily let some slimy scuzz in the local pick-up bar have at 'em in the dark corner.

I am more scared for the health of todays female performers and by default male performers as well in large part because of what Monahan mentioned about many of our favorite stars going down the escort route. Although porn and escorting involve sex for money. At least with porn the person having sex with you was tested. Some could argue that performer can still have sex outside the porn world but most guys have girlfriends and girls have boyfriends(most tend to be perfrormers) so the chances are that both are tested. The same thing can't be said if you have sex through an escort agency. There is a thread on another forum that European girls are willing to have non-condom sex for extra cash. Now that is both stupid and very dangerous. What's to say that American girls aren't also willing to go the bareback route for extra cash?
That's why I'm pro-condom for any penetration sex.

I think of these people as people just as the rest of us are. They are at higher risk of this but none of them deserve to be put through that. These people are doing porn either because they like it or because they need the money, I would certainly hope that none of them are doing it to spread decease. The idea of someone's life being ruined as a result of the porn scene would put a serious damper on the fantasy value!

"Sometimes" as HIV/AIDS is not the only threat to our "favorite porn starlets" sadly enough. : (
One of my favorites from ALS, Melissa Ashley, has suffered through ovarian cancer and now possibly faces cervical cancer as well. As a result she has spent quite a bit of time in hospitals as well has having some major organs removed--all while struggling to secure the funds needed to pay for it out of pocket since health care is apparently a privilege, not a right.
Back to the original question; yes, I do feel concerned that any one of my favorites could contract HIV/AIDS or any other STD out there but there is plenty of shit that seems to end or ruin the lives of the young and horny. Drugs, car accidents, angry partners, and health problems like the one I mentioned above all take their toll, though STDS are arguably the most easily preventable, at least in theory since condoms aren't exactly what a lot of porn audiences like to see.

REPLY TO #4 - pat362 :
It's not called the 'girlfriend experience' for nothing; people want as much 'service' as their money can get them, though I am not sure what Ashley Dupree-type rates get you beyond a job resignation.
I wonder if girls can demand higher rates in porn when the guy is wearing a condom? Probably not though as condom-ed sex in porn would risk a smaller audience than the typical bareback-and-free style.

I guess I'm heartless. To me, the burden of concern is on the people in the business. The threat of getting an STD is definitely there. If you choose to play the game anyway, and wind up infected... that's on you.

I don't know if it's because of the type of girls getting into the biz or maybe the fact that the money isn't coming as fast or is as high these days, but there certainly is a much greater amount of girls doing escorting work. I think a big part of the problem is that talent agencies actually open the door and in some cases I think pimp their talent out. Just look at the models page on many of the big agencies and how often do you see that the girl is now available for bachelor parties.
I don't mind if the girls gets in the biz, makes a name for herself and than cashes in on that fame. My porblem is if the girls decides to do escorting and porn work. I think that any girl that decides to escort should be blacklisted from doing porn. That may seem harsh but better that than another outbreak of HIV.

HIV is a problem for all of us, not only pornstars.
