Whilst I would participate anyway, I feel it is a novel, effective and interesting way of generating extra activity. I think it has a valid function.
I certainly reckon it has some effect, yes.

I would particpate because I like to write reviews and I enjoy the feedback.

It's fun. I enjoy posting anyway, but definitely enjoy the "lottery ticket" thrill also. I'm by nature lazy and am sure I'd post a little less if it weren't for the lottery.

Never considered I would win anything and I was right. It really didn't matter as I contributed for the fun of it. I left the forum without winning anything at all. When I returned I never expected the situation to change. Surprisingly I won my first amount a couple of weeks ago. It was a total surprise. Had no expectations but it was a nice bonus. Always thought the bigger names stood more chance. But then I am conspiracy theorist squirrel.

Of course it's great to win some money (I get my winnings at Amazon and buy books) - but it's not the main reason for writing reviews at all.
I enjoy the general feedback and the mutual help for hunting down the best sites.
BTW: You get tickets for comments, threads, replies ect ., too.

In the spirit of the new PU/TBP friendly squirrel I have decided to be nice from now on. I therefore think the raffle is totally fair. However if I won every week I would consider it to be a lot more fair.

There's more, but there's also less. You can only get points for a certain amount of gibberish per week, so I've occasionally held some back for the following Wednesday morning, just so my bullshit can at least potentially be converted into a cash convertible.
It's fun to turn verbal garbage into legal tender. And I've never even run for office.
Yet there are limits to the bullshit, too. I don't grab a few points by asking in a comment whether anyone has anything to say about a particular site that has never been reviewed or commented on, for instance.

To me the raffle is irrelevant. I have won a few times and it's nice but if the raffle disapeared tomorrow then I would still post in the forum and I would still write reviews. My main goal for joining PU was, and still is, to give reviews of sites that I think others might like or those that should be avoided at all cost. I know that the first thing I always look upeon entering the site are the new reviews. Some members have similar taste to mine so their reviews usually have more weight on whether I will join that site, but I still look at all the reviews.

I didn't join the site because of the raffle. But I think it's a nice feature, and I probably post more often because of the raffle. Then again, I also post whenever I have a thought bonging around in my brain, to clear the air inside my head.

I surely post more, because of the raffle. Otherwise I'd let my posts drop down in the periods when I'm not very active in seeking new memberships.

It depends for me. If I've posted some replies and I'm one or two short, I might look for the opportunity to post a few more just to get on the board with some tickets (not that it's done me much good). Overall, I think we get more people posting here because of the raffle which is probably a good thing in terms of getting more diverse opinions and a greater diversity of websites reviewed.

Yes, the raffle is an incentive to participate, as Wittyguy points out. And that's why we have it. There's been some grousing on occasion about people going for it to get raffle points, too, as a result. Hey, ya can't win.
BTW, there were a few months that went by that I didn't win diddlysquat in the raffle, while others with fewer points were getting the goodies. This is all fine by me. It's just for fun, and chances are pretty good that I'll run out of money before I run out of bs.

REPLY TO #12 - Drooler :
Drooler, if you ever do run out of money and bs, just tie a tin cup around your dog with the message: "Will work for food". With a mug as cute as his, people will be glad to drop dollar donations into the cup.

I just like participating through reviews, comments and in the forum. I would do this even without the weekly raffle. I have appreciated my winnings very much but just as the squirrel wrote, I never gave the raffle a thought until I did win.

That's a funny question since I am going back through the polls to get tickets right now. Plus, I miss looking through the poll results.

Both the raffle and having fun are reasons to post.
