I actually prefer IM because you communicate directly with a live rep, and because it's typing, the message has a better chance of being clearly understood than it would by telephone. Things get resolved faster that way.
E-mail is number 2, but it's more involved because you have to go back and check for a response, which may not be found amongst the fresh bumper crop of spam. And you may wait, and wait, and wait ...
Epoch has a nice IM feature. (Well, I think it's really "chat," should that make a difference.) I've always had success with them through that.

Phone would be ideal because my dealings with agents have always been good when they are available. E-mail is so seldom answered by most sites that I'm surprised when I actually get an email response.

I picked email because that's what most sites offer. I would have picked instant messaging but I've only been a member of one site that had that so it's not usually available with most sites.

I've used email in the past. The response is hit or miss. Most sites have never replied. A few have replied in a timely manner. But I don't try to contact customer support unless I'm having a major problem. And because I usually get such a lousy response, I don't have a lot of faith in customer support, which many sites advertise as 24/7.

I've had twice problems recently with sites that didn't get my password activated right away and using the chat option solved it while one of the sites, somewhat of a name in the porn industry but that shall remain nameless, replied my email 30 days later.
I was a bit dubious about the chat option and, in fact, took me about 15 minutes both times but, if you're in front of the computer anyway, it's a pretty effortless way to solve password issues.

Thankfully I don't have many problems, but those few I've had my preferred means to get them solved is email. Recently on a VOD site that I trusted I used a pop-up chat window and that worked well too.

Can't say i've ever had any real problems to contact customer support about when being a member anywhere but on some occassions i've emailed sites in advance of joining if i have any questions regarding the site and sometimes just to complain about being expected to pay more through regional pricing and so far i've always had a reply.

I usually use the cs form on the site. After that they send me an email.

Email anytime - but that's from a European point of view - would not like to spend "fortunes" on overseas phone calls....

Email. I don't really bother with international calls if I can avoid them.

The few times I have done it, I have done it via email.

Email for me. On a couple of occasions I've not received a a reply, but only when it wasn't that important... as such, didn't chase it up, and just made a mental note about unresponsiveness.
If I had a billing query that I really couldn't resolve, I guess I'd phone... and probably be quite sheepish about it!
