Once again, I may be in a minority here, but for me it is quality & quantity of photosets which matters.
Zips are a must. Preferably custom user selected.

Not enough content is the main thing that would make me reluctant to join a new site and same as Cap'n I would look for quality and quantity of photosets so if a new site has decent quality photos I would simply wait a year or two for the content to grow to an amount that would keep me interested for a month.....well a couple of weeks at least. I would also be unlikely to join any site new or old with a poor preview unless there were some reliable reviews around either here or at TBP.

I chose poor preview. I don't mind if a site has limited content, slow updates, or few or no videos. I'm pragmatic enough not to even care (too much) if they charge a few extra $ for non-US visitors. But I would like a good idea of what to expect, so I applaud sites that give members good samples and full browse access to all sets and models.

Not available as an answer but my starting point is the quality and structure of the preview site. If the site can't create a good preview site I can only conclude the actual site will be equally lousy.
However, once I've checked out the preview site I go immediately to PU. Hands down, a poor TBP and/or PU review is all I need to pass on a potential site, even if the preview site is spectacular.

Well the problem I see with this particular poll is that I have to choose just ONE answer, when in fact, to go along with Update issues, poor Previews (though I read it initially as poor Reveiw) are also a bad sign and reason not to join. And you have to throw in Price as another factor to boost the reluctance to join (as has been the case in joining Facial Abuse).
IN FACT, they are all good reasons to show reluctance to join a site, though the ones not mentioned either have not been encountered by me, or the price was right to overcome any reluctance I might have initially had.

I'm kind of surprised that I picked this but poor preview. I have said I'm going to join Wicked Pictures for over a year now, but still haven't because of the lack of a full model list in their preview and now their price went up so they fell another few spots for me. I can see how much the poor preview hurts based on I would still join with the higher price if they let me see all the models they have. I also learned over the last year to watch for wording in previews, especially of solo sites, like "hundreds of photos" instead of "hundreds of photo sets".
I'll add another possible answer that I have been using, "No facts info on TBP". I always check TBP on sites I haven't joined before. I ran into two different issues with this one. One site that had removed a lot of their content in comparison to the numbers they had when TBP visited it. One site that had no TBP facts that ended up having no zips, and no video downloads.

I opted for currency problems because I interpreted that as including issues with the billing service. If a site has flaws and I'm aware of those flaws I'll still join if I think it is a good value for me because I like that niche. But what kills it for me immediately is a billing service that gets negative reactions from the members here. I can weigh the other options if I really want to see the site, but I'm not give credit card information to a site I don't trust.
And if I was allowed two votes, I'd follow the trend and choose poor preview. It bugs me when a site gives me no clear indication of what's inside with a membership. I give full marks to sites like Videobox and Evil Angel that let you see everything they have to offer before you join. Of course, this can't apply to photo sites and I'm aware of that limitation.

It's all about the preview. The problem with a lot of sites is that you can't really get a good idea of what their videos are like because they don't provide video trailers and previews of their scenes. If the site would just put up a 20 second trailer for each scene, I would be able to see how they shoot their scenes. But if they don't provide trailers, then I'm left guessing and I will be reluctant to join their site.

Price. Easily. I'd join a site with 12 updates if they were good updates and it was priced correctly.

Actually I started answer something like this: "Not able to come up with one answer....." - when I realized I suggested the poll myself - terrible memory...
Looking back there of course should have been at least "Other"....Sorry, guys

Poor quality of photo sets -- if that's known. Poor preview if it hasn't been reviewed or commented on and that's all there is. A poor preview in that case is often a warning sign, not to say that the opposite is always a good sign.

The first thing is the preview section because new sites usually don't have any reviews so unless I can see what's available inside then I won't bother joining for any amount. The second most important thing is the quantity of videos and/or pics. The price is rarely an issue for me because
if I find the price too high then it won`t really matter the quantity of quality of the content because I won`t want to pay this.

My answer is two fold, quality is a must, however if the site does not update often or at all I may still join one time and leave after I get my supplies.
I do however look at reviews here and the main site to see if there is any insight to the content etc.

If the best that can be put up in a preview is poor, why would I be even tempted?

Preview, definitely - if I can't see a good idea of what a site is going to be like, I won't join. I understand why sites want to limit previews, but a generous preview will always make me want to see more.
Interesting how few people are primarily bothered by price!
Take note site owners - deliver quality and show us the quality in a preview, and the vast majority will happily pay for it.

Value. Content quality and amount. Versus price. Plus any information on how easy the site is to use: site design, download speeds, etc. Plus whether to site contents appeals to my tastes.

Of the options listed, currency problems are probably that holds me back the most since it shows that they do not respect customers equally. Most of the stuff I don't like, I end up finding out only after joining.

As I rarely join new sites, this isn't much of an issue for me. But, if I do find myself branching out, the first thing that stops me in my tracks is a poor review on here. After that, a poor preview on the site and the price are usually the deal breakers.

Kind of a combination of "most (but not all) of the above." I voted "Not enough videos," but value for the money (i.e. price) is also a factor as is a poorly organized, stingy or otherwise off-kilter preview site.
