Need Help. Guys I still need help. I have a PCI slot nividia card, and 1080p 22" monitor. ( Hanns-G at 60hz)) monitor and a Nvidia 9500gs 512MB And my videos still look grainy at times. It has to be settings but I can not dial it in. My set up should be good for a nice . I often wondered Graphic cards and Video cards ? Are the the same? See my Nvidia is a graphic card. So....Should I be looking at another card since I do not play games ?? The only video's that look clean on my monitor are HD ones. PS this monitor with and adapter did awesome on my Xbox360 when i used the adapter was clean. So I think it is my Pc setup ?? Not the monitor ? or ? I have no idea. Thanks. Hey CT, are you using a DVI connection to the monitor? That will funnel the digital signal right into the monitor without and analog conversion. Have the resolution set to 1080? Another thing to keep in mind if older, non-HD vids will probably look worse on your digital monitor than on your old monitor because you'll see all the imperfections. You might want to play with the contrast and brightness to fine tune it.

Yes, a graphic card and a video card are the same thing. Is your video card compatible with your operating system? Does Windoze show any yellow exclamation points in Device Manager? (If you're running Vista, I don't know if this even applies) It could be a driver issue. If your motherboard has integrated graphics or another video card of any type, you might have to disable it in either the BIOS or Device Manager for the PCI card to run properly. (Again, don't know if Vista has Device Manager) You might consider posting a problem like this on a forum dedicated to PC problems. I'm a big fan of www.computing.net, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of other forums, some of which are dedicated to video issues alone. Using DVI is important and there is a difference between DVI and VGA when it comes to quality anymore. Another thing to look for is what player you are using. Try a few other ones. If the lower resolution looked okay and the HD didn't, that would make sense. If the HD video looks good, it can't be the type of cable he's using. It's almost got to be a driver issue or a hardware conflict somewhere. Kinda hard to diagnose without knowing all the system specs. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Videos, especially Hollywood film based movies, are supposed to look grainy. Maybe with a good crisp display you are just now seeing video as they actually are?

The quality of the video is only going to look as good as the source material. If you are playing standard def Xvid / divx / wmv they will look blocky / grainy, getting worse as you increase your screen size. You can try playing around with the post processing options in players like vlc or mpc-hc which will improve things a bit but the only sure way to increase the quality is to find a better source. But as justme said, a lot of movies are supposed to look graining (or the "film grain" effect as its known) to give them a more gritty and realistic appearence. Even a lot of computer games that would normally be visually very sharp have the option to turn on a film grain filter to make them look more like movies. If you are talking about porn looking grainy then again it is most likely due to the file you are playing rather than your setup. The bitrates that a lot of sites use for HD content are just not high enough for the resolutions to provide cristal clear picture quality. I suggest you download some 1080P high bitrate trailers for some animation movies. Those tend to be crystal clear, if your setup plays them without artifacts you be can happy that your gear is working correctly. The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? Not much help from this user on this one - but a fine kind of thread here... Now and then all - or some of us - could use some help in 'tech' matters: videos, drives, browsers, security ect. AND there seems to be a number of fellow PUs who have those skills - in different areas, so just a suggestion: Would it be an idea/possible/reasonable to have a special 'tech-thread' here at PU - and is it ok with our hosts? Any views? "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Off the top of my head, I can't imagine a tech thread that we'd have a problem with. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator Now at: MyPorn.com "To get your ideas across use small words, big ideas, and short sentences."-John Henry Patterson

Cybertoad ... yeah, I guess a tech thread might get some questions like that though I was figuring most would be related to computers. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator Now at: MyPorn.com "To get your ideas across use small words, big ideas, and short sentences."-John Henry Patterson
