Has Anyone Else Had This Problem?

Ever since I created a Porn Users account (and consequently provided my email address), I've been getting a lot of spam. On top of that, someone was able to hack into my account and send spam email from my account (I recently changed my password so hopefully I've solved that problem).

Of course, this all could have been coincidental, so I thought I'd ask if any of you have had the same problem when you created a Pron Users account. By the way, are our email addresses available to the public or are they hidden (I haven't checked yet for myself yet, but I will)?

Your question about how your email address is used is addressed in our Terms, the section on Privacy Policy:
https://www.pornusers.com/terms.html

Your email affress is not shared and I can assure you, no-one here is spamming you nor have we given your address to anyone who would.

Hope that helps Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

I did not notice any significant increase in my spam email immediately after getting a PU account. There are many ways spammers can get your email address, and I currently do get a large amount of spam at my main email account. But I sincerely doubt it was because of my PU membership.

I get tons of spam but I've never thought that it was due to PU but because of the sites I visit or join. Long live the Brown Coats.

Like pat362, I also get tons of spam, but the email address I signed up with is the same address I use to sign up for sites, so I imagine it is more likely to come from the sites than PU, but I've had that email account for 10 years, so I doubt I would have noticed an increase... Doubt it. More likely they sent out spam through their own systems and forged the header information to make it look like it came from your email account. Happens to everyone. It's all scripted.

The same thing happens to me. I sometimes get email with a heading that is my own email address, sent to me. When I see that email, I know I didn't send it to myself, so I know it's some kind of spam. I also sometimes get a notice that email with my address was unable to be delivered, that I never sent. So spammers are using my email address as a fake header to send to other accounts.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Internet spam.

^^^ but the main point was, they did not "hack" the account, they're not seeing the email messages in there or whatever else.

Even if you don't give your email address out to anyone, they will find it and they will spam it.

They have scripts running all the time, they take a domain name and start hitting all possible letter combinations and see which doesn't return back as invalid.

They'll use scripts to hit an email server beginning with
a@mail.com
aa@mail.com
aaa@mail.com
aaaa@mail.com
b@mail.com
...
etc.

In other words, spam is unavoidable, and it's not worth trying to find someone to blame for it.

If someone with your email address in their address book installs a trojan on their computer, the list of names and email addresses gets sent back to the trojan sender and you'll get spammed. Not only will you get spam showing yourself as the sender, you will get spam showing senders you may recognize, if you know other people or organizations whose addresses were also in the address book on the compromised computer.

We've had people in our sales office get hit by this stuff and I, along with several very attractive co-workers of mine have been sending me offers of inexpensive blue pills and male genital enhancements ever since. I suppose I could use those emails as conversation starters...

Please tell some of your attractive female co-workers that I would be happy to exchange my spam for theirs at any time. I need a little something to brighten up my life. They can skip the blue pill and genital enhancement messages, and go for the pretty pictures, if they can find any. I haven't really gone into my spam trying to find any pretty pictures, but maybe your attractive female co-workers could send me some pictures of themselves.
Would this offer be considered spam?

Thanks, Khan.

That definitely helps. I didn't think it was related to PU, but I just thought I'd ask since noticed an influx of spam right around the time I created an account on PU. It must have been coincidental.

Thanks again!
