Has anyone noticed?

Raging Buddhist has disabled his account. I don't know his reasons for doing so, maybe it was a New Year's resolution, but know that I will sorely miss his rants! If it is a NY resolution I hope he's like me and breaks it within the first week!

Noticed?...Not 'till you mentioned it.
What's going on? Guy's disappearing left and right.

I'm beginning to believe Iklfireones's theory about alien pods, for crying out loud.

Maybe I wasn't just dreaming when I posted that thread about porn-user-apprehensions by flying saucers.

Seriously, RB, c'mon an' tune back in....it ain't, nor will it be the same w/o you.

It's hard to keep track or keep current on who's gone missing. And lately some of the major contributors or bigger names at PU have gone off to do whatever.

Then they drop back in, for a brief visit, sometimes.

But the reasons why they disable their account is usually unclear. Mostly, they just disable and steal away quietly.

RB has made some fine reviews and great posts that are informative, provocative, whatever.

Here's hoping he will soon return to us.

But maybe the PU staff could post a list of members that have (currently) disabled accounts. In alphabetical order. With the date the account was disabled. If that isn't too much extra work. Because I've noticed some names seem very familiar, that have been disabled, and I wonder, as I'm sure others do, why the member didn't just stop posting, instead of actually disabling his account.

Now that I think about it, RB posted that he was having some problem with his computer, and that he was working on it. And he was getting pissed off (or even more pissed than usual, since his normal state is pissed).

Maybe that contributed to why his account is disabled: he needs to get his computer equipment + porn collection the way he wants it, and that's taking up his time. So PU is a distraction from that.

Just pure speculation, on my part.

Uhh...wouldn't that be a blacklist of sorts?

I don't like it when members disable their accounts, whether they are regulars or not, but I'm uncomfortable with a list being drawn up of members' account statuses--this isn't Facebook!. And if they had a problem with PU and aren't just taking a vacation (or a forearm-fatiguing video marathon...) then a list is probably not what they want. The purpose of a blacklist is to list the names of undesirables, that you will not allow into a club or whatever.

A list of disabled members (when the disablement is voluntary, at the request of the member himself), is completely different from a blacklist, both in what it represents, and its purpose.

I don't think a list of disabled members would have any power over the disabled members. After all, members have an alias or nickname that is basically anonymous.

I think a few members might be posting on blogs or forums using the same alias that they use at PU. But almost all PU members are more likely anonymous to the Internet (but not to PU itself, since PU has at least one email address for each PU member).

TBH I don't know why the Disable function is there.

If you don't want to participate, just wander off & do your own thing.
I wouldn't have bothered disabling. You would only have to faff about getting the account re-enabled if you decided you wanted to participate again.

Unless Disabling of an account is a method of expressing your disapproval of something?

Capn, you make a great point: Disabling your account can express disapproval.

There are many things and members at PU that I disapprove of.

It's only fair that PU install an on/off switch to enable/disable my account (and other members' accounts). So we can freely express our disapproval and indignation.

Better yet, give me a switch to disable all the PU members who strike my fancy.

The Blue Screen of Enable/Disable will strike fear in the hearts of all Windows users at PU. And a Mac Attack is coming soon!

Too bad, Raging Buddhist was/is a great PU.......Hey, RB: do not let us down in spite of your other interests at other sites where we had some good talks....come back again, when you are in the mood!
Your inputs here were something special and different - I'll miss those.

Your're NOT the only one who - once in a while - gets kind of bored here.........BUT we need some more crazy inputs, some far-out PUs here and we need this place to stay alive - in some ways - PU must NOT become stereotypic....we need all those wild inputs........a lot of us here are sometimes way too mediocre. This user certainly admits that!

Still I think it way too drastic to disable an account - take a break, wait and see, ect.......

I'm certainly not sure what lk2fireone means with this input - and the sentence:
"I think a few members might be posting on blogs or forums using the same alias that they use at PU."

Off course they/we do - even if PU is "Top of the POPS" a lot here are into other blogs/forums - and some using the similar nicknames and alias - is that a problem?.......and what's this about "blacklist" - maybe I'm just confused and don't get it????
Please help me out here... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

FWIW, neither RagingBuddhist nor CyberToad have expressed any "disapproval" of PU/TBP recently. Nor did their activity immediately before disabling their account offer any hint as to their reasons.

Like a few of you, I have no idea why some users disable their account as opposed to just not participating.

And no, I can't see that we'll be creating any kind of "disabled list" in the foreseeable future. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

To me it's a gesture, that's all. A way of venting anger or disappointment or hurt when you are temporarily upset yet don't want to take it out verbally (electronically) on the one who offended you.

After years of participation in usenet newsgroups I found that direct confrontation of someone who angers/hurts/offends you usually causes a flame war between those who like the one who caused the upset and those who don't.

Good will is lost, former "friends" are lost and ill feelings sometimes last for months because people have long memories.

So, rather than letting it all hang out, as we used to say, an immediate disablement forces you to keep your angry thoughts to yourself because you no longer have a way to express them in the forum ... if you have the self-discipline to disable before you dash off that angry post!

I think it's great for blowing off steam even though I grant you that the whole idea of disabling is slightly ridiculous, childish even!

A bit of self-discipline would be the preferred way to go but some of us find it hard to keep biting our lips for any length of time and so ... disable !!!

I disabled my membership twice: once when I felt that my contributions were not helpful to people in reality because ninety percent of what most guys like about porn turns my stomach, and my tastes are so odd that I felt that it was dishonest of me to try and pass myself off as a reviewer of porn sites.

The second time was because I felt for a short time as if I wanted nothing whatsoever to do with porn.

I have willingly suspended my account at a philosophy board for reasons Messmer mentions and a lot of people do it from time to time. It is a way to make sure you cannot post for a certain period of time. At this board I speak of, you can ban yourself for a month and you cannot post until that time period is over.

Sometimes boards like this become an addictive distraction and we feel the need to do some tough love on ourselves. Maybe a feeling of lack of control? I don't know.

I have even considered suspending my cable account (if that is at all possible) because I am thoroughly addicted to the internet. What I would do in the downtime I have no idea. I might actually have to take up reading BOOKS again, or, perish the thought, go outside and inter-relate with people....*gulp*...in person! You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Edited on Jan 04, 2011, 09:10pm

You have brought up a very interesting point here, Willie.
Porn addiction is commonly known for just what it is -- but how many of us have ever considered our obsession and the length of time we spend focused on one or more porn forums?
I know my interests has drifted far enough already into this site to easily classify my situation as being an addiction. And I'll have to admit it's become ingrained.
A cure? I guess an obvious disinterest in me hanging around by my fellow Porn Users' would do the trick there!!! because becoming "not wanted" would most certainly create the recipe Edited on Jan 10, 2011, 08:49pm

Porn IS very personal to most - but here at PU we have the VAST advantage to deal it with others ANONYMOUS!
Still that "dealing" is in my opinion very helpful in so many ways:
1) Share good and bad experience at different sites.
2) Getting new hints all the time.
3) Getting useful warnings on how not to waste your money.
4) Get some funny, useful, entertaining ping-pong with people who also are into porn in all it's nuances.

In any forum there will be disagreement - most everybody here been through that more than once - even in in somewhat nasty ways.

But generally this PU can brag about being a place with decent communication - and that's on of the main reasons I stay put...

Oh, had my serious quarrels too, but when someone steps out of line, it's so damn comforting to get support from other PUs..

Finally: now and then you get fed up/tired ect. of discussing porn here - but then take a break - why quit the entire deal???
You'll miss it sooner or later....

Peace and good will to all. It's a pleasure to read an intelligent post, where Khan himself admits that all the PU members (except myself, of course) are merely figments of my perverted imagination.

As I ascend on my path toward righteousness and goodness, all you perverts will gain goodness through me.

The Church of LukeWyrm Sheets is the organization (church) I founded after receiving divine revelation. The moment of revelation was when I was laying in bed, with the bed sheets around me, and the bed sheets were flooded in my moment of heated bliss. The ejaculated Wyrms are an expression of my divine bliss, and they heated the bedsheets to a rosy hue.

The origin of my bliss was watching a porno of a lovely young teen, who gazed at me in adoration while touching herself with gentle fingers.

I agree porn can be so addictive and I have been in the past slightly obsessed with getting new stuff instead of appreciating what great stuff I did have, it got to a point were I wasn't even really ever looking at some videos from sites and just storing them all on hard drives never to be viewed and then looking for newer stuff. It all came to a stop and I thought, take a step back here, porn can be great but let's not go over the top with it. I now feel at a much better place and just limit my time devoted to it all. I'm not sure I would disable my account here, I would just not visit for a while which I have done in the past and just pop in when I choose. I'm certainly not a known member here though, I just like to visit now and again and see what's new and read some interesting discussions in the forums.

I can see how people do get addicted to porn and they for a while shut out porn and give up with it, not saying this is what has happened to RB. I did too like his posts and hope he returns. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

Sounds like something I do. I often download to my hard drive material that has yet to be looked at, while at the same time I'm forever looking for something new and different. Or something old that has gone out of fashion!

But now I have a good reason to continue doing this: Here in Canada more and more ISPs are imposing a monthly bandwidth limit with a hefty extra charge if you should go over it, and if you wish to keep downloading HD movies to your heart's content you might end up getting a monthly bill charging you for the extra gigs you've consumed that might very well give you an attack of the organ I just mentioned.

At least this way I will have a weapon if my ISP ever decides to go that way: I'll simply cancel my Internet access. I would miss some things like the convenience of email and all the spam addressed to "Sue" (who the hell is this Sue?), but reading a news paper or good book ain't bad as a substitute, and in between doing those laudable things I will start with the oldest Porn file on my three external drives and work my way through them.

I should be finished by approx. 2021 (or before, if nature intervenes .. remember the Mayan calendar, as well as the average life span)!

Short answer is disabling the account makes it an extra hurdle to get back into this site. It's nothing against you, your website, or the other users here, this site is just not a good fit for me. Edited on Jan 31, 2011, 09:05pm
