Videos/Crystral Player Anybody here use Crystal Player (free version)? Have used this excellent player for years - and using it more than anyother (and,ok - along with VLC) But now Crystal Player seem to have grown tired of this freebee-deal - so they now have messages running over the screen while playing a video. Is there a way around this - og is it finally a matter of payment? - after so long time... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Is it possible to revert back to an older version? There are websites that specialize in offering previous versions of popular programs. Then just make sure it does not auto update back to its current version and give you the messages. Just something to look into. http://forum.oldversion.com/requests/212...-crystal-player.html Oldversion is reliable, but scan before you install. I'm curious---what's the big deal about Crystal Player?

I am with jd1961 on this and with any other player besides windows media player in general. I really have never had any problems using windows media player and I am just wondering what makes this and any other player better? Maybe I'm just in the dark and I would love to know if something is extremely better than windows media player when viewing videos? Sexted From My iPad

I use WMP Classic myself, but I'm always open to something else. I used to like Divx, but not anymore. I only use VLC if I must.

It's like old habits - and something to do with the size of frame - (for smaller preview - before going fullscreen). BUT - just used some time to really check out the WMP - and found it: Skin mode - and it looks much better (concerning frame). Think I'll try and see, if I can get used to this player instead -- so, well - you learn something new all the time... "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Does that give you a warm and fuzzy feeling, that we are all connected to Bill Gates? Sort of like the giant E.T. in the sky, only closer to home. Lol.

I haven't tried Crystal Player. I started with Windows Media Player awhile back. Added all the codecs back then and started noticing massive slowdown when I opened it. That was back in 2004 or so, so my PC was very slow. I then found what was being called the Quicktime alternative, in reality, it was the one JD is talking about, Windows Media Classic. I used it for several years, not only did it play all the files I had, but it also was very light on the resources used. When we got our current computer, I decided to go for a new media player and started using VLC, and only use it now. My biggest problem with Windows Media Player now is the damn thing switches my "file associations" so it is taking over my mp3s and movies. I did give WMP a try since Vista gives you no way to remove it. I think it is WMP 11. It isn't bad for .wmv files, but it wants to me to add codecs for my .avi files and I'm not going through that again when I can use VLC and play all the files. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

What does that mean, exactly. (since I'm far from being an expert here) BTW: Been using the new setup with WMP for some hours now - The quality is just great, but it seems like it's using more time to get started - than both VLC and Crystal Player - is that the "calling home"-deal? I'm probably less of an expert than Denner. But my understanding of the "call home" feature is that if a Microsoft program has a runtime error and quits running, then it usually tries to "call home" on the internet and report that problem to Microsoft. Depending on your PC setup, you might or might not get a popup message on your screen asking for your permission to send a report of the runtime error to Microsoft. Supposedly no personal information is included in the error report. Other software companies have a similar feature in some of their software programs.

Well, lk2fireone, I do not get popups - my main irritation here with this WMP is, that it is rather slow at start-up. And I do not believe that's because of my PC - since both Crystal Player and VLC start up very fast. But appart from that - the WMP does great - and I even think the viewing quality is a little better - especially for older and "not-so-good" video-files... But, man - I think this is a science here. http://ccs.frogwrite.co.nz/spyware.htm It's not your imagination, it is a slow loader. Here's a reputable place to download the classic player: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ As always, scan before you install. Edited on Jun 25, 2009, 12:24pm

Click "Start">"Default Programs" to take care of that. Or right click a file and click "open with" and click "choose default program" and check "Always Use..."

WAUW - it's just nostalgic - had forgotten about this classic player - and did not know it still existed - remember having it, using it and being very fond of it at former PCs... Am testing it right now - and it seems just GREAT. THANKS, JD!!!! "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"
