Porn (and other movies) download, burn and watch on DVD/TV Sorry to bring up another tech thread (if anybody is bored) - but still: Anyone here ever wanted to burn your vids downloads and watch on your TV via your DVD Player in the living room/bedroom or else where? I do - but have never succeeded. Not only porn, but downloads of other movies. So: Any kind of usable freeware, what formats ect.???? Tried to burn both porn and other movies downloaded in .avi, .mkv, ect .... but the only place it will play is at the pc. Bought different burnable DVDs - both DVD+R and DVD-R - but all turn out with nothing on the DVD Player/TV.........just ok at the pc. Tried to Google those deals, but always came up with no really usable answer............ so again: any experts here?? "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

I've always been a dimwit sort of guy as far as technology goes. I'm usually a couple of years behind everyone else so by the time I finally catch up I'm already two years out of date. I use either Cucusoft or Any Video Converter. Cucusoft is not free but AVC is. Both of those along with newer software, that other more up do date members will be aware of, will do the trick. As long as you have a dvd burner on your computer you will be able to burn dvd's. If not you will have to buy an external one. Newer computers have dvd burners already installed so it will soon be almost as easy as cutting cd's. To play on your tv usually involves converting files to mpeg2. In addition you also have to make sure the format is pal for Europe and not ntsc. Edited on Oct 15, 2010, 09:24am

Word for word, I had the same dilemma you're inquiring about. Tried everything you described, verbatim. Results?....the same you had. Solution:??? throw in the towel. So, thanks to your helpful and timely thread, Sir Denner, perhaps we'll both learn something useful.

I watch most of the stuff that I download on my TV so I'm an old hand at this. I covert my videos files with any video converter. It's very good and it's free. They ask you to upgrade every time you turn the software on but I'm happy with the basic version. Not too mention that you must pay for the upgrade. All you need to do is convert your files into AVI so that it can play on your dvd player. I burn all my dvd's using Nero Burning software. It's not free but it's a very good and you can probably buy one of the older version for much less than the newest one. The only other important thing is to make sure that your DVD player is able to play Divx files and then you are ready to enjoy all your stuff on a large screen. Long live the Brown Coats.

Yep. Pat is right about the burning software. Cucusoft has burning software within it, but Any Video Converter doesn't. So you will have to purchase something like Nero if you want to use AVC. However you also have to make sure your computer will physically be able to cut dvd's. Some of the ones from two or three years ago will only cut cd's. If that is the case you will have to buy an external dvd cutter, that will physically cut them. You have to have both the burning programme and the hardware to pysically cut them. It's one of the mistakes I first made when trying to do this. I had Cucusoft containing the software to convert and then burn, but my computer did not have the lazer burner capable of cutting anything except cd's, so I had to buy an external one, which is quite cheap.

Guess that good ol' Nero Burning and to pay for it, is a big step...... Still, not sure. Some places (websites) they claim that you have to covert files (Divx included) to - for example mpeg2... So when you download/rip some movie-files in .avi, .mkv - do you have to corvert those files? - and what program to convert them with? BTW: had a day home alone, burned a 2,6 Gb file from my downloaded In The Crack stash - but could not watch it on the big screen TV, only at the pc (where it's at a normal file already) - bummer.... Try and use Any Video Converter to convert a wmv file to dvd(pal) or mpeg2. When you open AVC, on the top right there is a profile tab which if you click it has all the options. Then add the file you wish to convert, which you can do by looking at the options on the top left. See if you can convert to mpeg2 or dvd (pal). The output file should appear under its own folder under the Any Video Converter folder that the system creates for you. I am in Europe so therefore I convert to mpeg2, which plays on my tv. The dvd (pal) option should also play in dvd players. Some dvd players will not play avi files so I always convert to mpeg2.

I copy and pasted this straight from Any video converter. I can't speak for some of the editing options because I only use AVC to convert video files to AVI files. I don't know if there are any freeware burning software. I've always used Nero and I've never been disapointed. Just make sure that you have a dvd burner installed and not just a standard cd burner. Any Video Converter is an All-in-One video converting tool with easy-to-use graphical interface, fast converting speed and excellent video quality. It allows you to effortlessly convert video files between popular format! It can convert almost all video formats including DivX, XviD, MOV, rm, rmvb, MPEG, VOB, WMV, AVI to MPEG-4 movie format for smart phone, FLV, AVI and MPEG-1, MPEG-2. It supports importing video clips directly from Internet (YouTube/Google/Nico Video) as well as extracting .mp3 audios from videos. It also allows you to crop video with an easy-to-use cropping window, add effects, i.e. rotation and flipping, adjust brightness, contrast and saturation to output videos. Now you can convert and compress your multimedia files and watch them on the go! Long live the Brown Coats.

DVDs are sort of old technology. My laptop has an HDMI so I usually just plug it into the TV and use the wireless mouse from my coffee table. If you don't have a laptop or computer you want to lug around have you considered some of those online boxes they have available these days? I haven't tried one but I think the new Google TV has full access to the Internet.

Forgive me for asking, I just want to make sure. But when you attempt to burn your DVD's, you aren't just making a data DVD? By that I mean putting an .avi right on the disk. I don't know if this is still relevant because it's been years, but when I made DVD's I found that I was most likely to get it to play in a regular DVD player when I bough DVD+R and set the booktype to DVD-ROM. I think nero can do this.

I have the whole bundle of Roxio...came with my Dell software. But I still can't get it to cooperate with my TV. Also went on the Divx website, where they claim to have an AVI program that'll transport data to play on TV/DVD players. But I passed because I have a Divx bundle --which, although superb, is too doggone erratic and tempermental.

I burn plenty of dvd's with Nero on either DVD-R or DVD+R disc and all of the files are standard .avi files. I have no problem playing those on my dvd player. I simply insert the dvd in my player and then I get to a page that allows me to choose which file to open up. Long live the Brown Coats.

Just NOT sure here - but it seems like - maybe - the deal pat362 mentions is all about the RIGHT DVD player at your TV... All I ever get is: "Unknown CD" at the TV from the Player - AND those files are exactly .avi - before I tried to do a LOT of conversions (that did not help either). So maybe I/we should get a DVD Player that can do what pat states: "I simply insert the dvd in my player and then I get to a page that allows me to choose which file to open up." Never says that at my player... So it looks like a new player with all those benefits?.......and those come quite cheap these days. Before you do that Denner, try converting a file to mpeg2 because some dvd players will not play avi but they will play mpeg2. You will always need software that will burn dvd's, plus hardware that will cut them, as well as a programme that will convert them to mpeg2. If you convert a file to mpeg2, then burn it, your present dvd players should play it.

I second Squirrel's suggestion of trying different things before investing in a new dvd player. Mine is capable of playing both mpgs and Divx files. I believe that avi files are the same thing as Divx so that's why I have no problem playing them. Long live the Brown Coats.

I second Pat's suggestion of seconding my opinion! The reason I do this Denner, is because I suspect your computer has a cd cutter but not a dvd cutter. I could be totally wrong about this. It's just mine has a cd/dvd drive marked but only a cd cutter. You need to find out first of all whether you have a dvd cutter on there. Newer computers all now have dvd cutters on them. My current one is now about three years old but did not have a dvd cutter installed. Then you need a burning software like Nero. I am sure your dvd player will be ale to play genuine mpeg2. It is always complicated to start with. As an older non techno whiz kid sort of person, I find it all takes a lot of getting used to. Edited on Oct 19, 2010, 06:40am

Khan, Roxio blows, don't use it. It came for free on my laptop, and is pretty much useless - one of the first things I did when I got my laptop was remove it. Nero is much better. I'm a bit confused by this thread, as Jame4096 asked earlier, are you guys trying to burn data DVDs that are playable on a DVD player, or burn DVD-video (with chapters, etc, that will play on your DVD player)? A data DVD will only play the file formats that your patricular DVD player supports, the older the player the fewer (if any) options. I'd recommnend reading the manual for your specific player to see what file types it supports before making too many coasters if you are trying to play a data DVD. Your player might also have specication requirements for the video (frame rate, frame size, bitrate, etc.) in order to play the data file. A DVD-video will play on any DVD player. Depending on what burning software you are using, if you are trying to make a DVD-video many will convert common file formats automatically (similarly to how most burning software will internally convert MP3's to WAV's when burning an audio CD). I haven't done it in a while, as like Goldfish I now have a laptop with an HDMI port, but I used to burn wmv's to DVD-videos all the time in Nero, and never had any playback problems in any DVD player I own. DivX is a compressed mpeg4 video format which is commonly playable as data on DVDs, however I don't think it is a "true" avi, as it is compressed. If you only have access to a CD-burner you can burn a videoCD, which should also be playable on almost any DVD player. The downside to this is that it is limited in length to 80 minutes or so of video, and I believe is an mpeg-1, so you might lose some quality. Although modern burning software may not give this option, and newer DVD players may not support it (it is a very old format). Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars. Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

My PC is set up as an entertainment center - all my video and music just a few keystrokes away. So, rather going through the hassle of burning files to DVD, hoping whatever program you use burns them right and amassing a huge collection of discs that need categorizing and shelf space, I'd say take one of two other options. Either set up a PC dedicated to playing video right from a hard drive or get the hardware that streams video from your PC to your television. The initial cost might be higher, but, in the long run, I think it would save a lot of the aforementioned aggravation and shelf space. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

No, it will not. I'm not aware of any nero software that can convert files. I use a freeware software called any video converter. There is a basic veriosn that's free and the professionnal that requires payment. The basic is fine for me. I convert all my video files to avi files and then I burn them on a DVD using Nero. Nero Vision is the simplest program to create dvds I've ever used. It takes in practically all computer video file types, any resolution, any framerate, and converts them to dvd video format ready to burn onto a disc.

As you've discovered, different combinations of DVD formats, players, burning software etc, can be an issue to deal with. You may be better off with a hardware media player. You can get ones that plug into your PC and act like an external hard drive, that you copy files to; then, once loaded, plug into your TV and have a remote control that you can use to browse and play the contents. Obviously costs a bit more than buying blank DVDs, but not hugely expensive and in theory far more convenient. I'm not sure of any specific brands offhand, but if you don't find any, let me know and I'll try to hunt something down for you... Edited on Feb 25, 2011, 07:34am

I agree that this is a workable solution, but there is a serious downside to these devices: they only play the newest versions of files that are capable of supporting HD. 90%+ of my collection is wmv files. Only a small percentage of those are in wmv9 format, but these devices will only play wmv9. They won't play versions 5-8, which are in wide use on porn sites. Check the properties of your files and if you have a lot of older versions of videos they probably won't play. If you don't have a lot of files to deal with, you could convert them. The manufacturers of these devices don't really make it obvious that they only play the newest versions of files. I have no idea why they wouldn't build in more capability.

I'd recommend getting a small computer to use a media pc before getting one of these "media players" as the computer would give you more functionality for not much more money. Unless you have a really old TV that doesn't have a VGA or HDMI port. dell sells a small computer called the zino or something for $300 which has HDMI and esata, a friend of mine got one a year or so ago and it works pretty well. it is by no means a fast computer, but seems fine for videos and browsing the web. You can also get USB-HDMI adapters if you have a laptop without an HDMI port, although I have never tried one. Although I must say, I am still confused by this thread, if you burn a DVD as DVD-video it should play on most DVD players, I never had any problems doing this back in the day. Perhaps the "free" Roxio is different than my Roxio Creator (cost about 80 bucks) which I use for still photos and creating both DVD's & CD's that work - In my DVD player attached to my TV or through my stereo if listening to music on my CD player. And I have a Dell. In fact I've recommended the Roxio Creator for DVD's cause of it's editing features which allows me to cut scenes, add scenes, add music and/or comments, or text captions and graphics for intro's or at the end. I've made video's from porn downloads and photographs from friends and families personal lives which have more than impressed the recipients. For $80 that I spent on the Roxio software, it has been way more than I'd expected with this one caveat - You need some computing power to do it and disk space to store it. If you don't have the overhead then it will SUCK big time. Which I would believe to be true of any movie editing software, freeware or not. Is it worth investing in the hardware & software to get the job done? Well it depends on how much you want to view it on your TV. and good luck with that one... Found a very good free program - and extremely easy to use after downloading almost any file-type: http://www.sothinkmedia.com/movie-dvd-maker/ No watermarks on the DVD from the program, just a short 5 sec. upstart screen with the name. BTW: Do not watch much porn on DVD-player/TV - but there's a lot of great movies - especially classics - to download for less than a buck - legally: For instance: Just stumbled over Mel Brooks: "High Anxiety" to download for $ 0.79 - and if you want the blue ray version it's "the exorbitant" amount of $ 1. Just wanted to open up this thread again because I had a post to add. As I've stated previously (though not on this thread) I like to edit my downloaded scenes just to dump the extraneous gonzo. I have in the past, and will probably use some in the future just cause I'm familiar with it, Roxio Creator 2010. But I've not been happy lately with the instability of the video editor. The Creator has other features like a photo shop and music editor which I also use. But I went looking recently at a new video editor and came across Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X5, a recommendation from CNET reviewers. There is a free 30 day look if you're interested. Additionally it is very reasonably priced at $60. Two of the reasons I considered and purchased this software is that is able to use all four of my processors in the editing process whereas the Roxio would only overload one. Secondly, there are adjustable filters (specifically a sharpen filter) which Roxio lacked. Interestingly the Roxio product HAD in older versions this specific filter but did not see fit to include it in their newer products and I could find no way to import it. Nor were they forthcoming in helping me. While I have just downloaded and installed the Corel today, I will follow up with my take on it in the future. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee. If you're going to lay her head over the pool table and fuck her throat, get your fucking hand off her throat!

I looked but most have had problems right out of the box. After trying it for a couple of days and having downloading a new copy of it today I've already edited two movies. Most all reviews of products have people who are unsatisfied. 23% of the reviews were unsatisfactory (1 or 2 score). The problem most of the time is that there is NO optimum software for everyone. So you have to weigh features vs cost and since it's free to try for 30 days you should be able to make a determination prior to making a decision. There are things that are different than the Roxio but once I figured it out editing was a lot easier. But we will see going forward. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee. That's most of what I've been doing for the last two months - knocking down the bit rates (which drops the file size, of course) so I can run my favorite video on a laptop that can't quite keep up with hi-def. But I still can't picture ever burning files to DVD again. They take forever to burn, don't last nearly as long as people think AND the seek time on the slowest hard drive still beats a DVD any day! Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I used to burn DVDs, but that stopped when I got a laptop 2 years ago with an HDMI output. I would like to find a good video editing package.

I agree with you there but the one thing that is a downside for me is there is no way to put chapters on your disk work. But then I started making them in the 10 - 15 min range. All my TV will do is fast jump. Longest one is about 20 mins - there it would be nice to have chapters. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee. Like I said earlier - look at the corel pro 5 - free 30 day download. If you forget about registering it and just open up the first saved project you made, I believe it could bypass that restriction. I bought it before I really had a chance to check that out. If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.
