first anniversary

Today makes exactly one year since I joined PU. No I am not leaving, I just want to share a few thoughts.

I joined primarily as a way to complain about how a website treated me after inadvertantly not unchecking a cross sale box. Immediately I got some positive support, so I decided to post my first review. The comments about it were supportive and I got my first trust ratings from Aceofaces and Drooler. Thanks guys. They really made me feel good. So I then wanted to get past being a newbie with less than five points. After that, I felt that it was a lot of fun writing reviews and getting positive feedback. I have enjoyed the positive atmosphere that we have here.

I am not deliberately trying to pass anyone in the rankings, but it has happened anyway. I am proud to be ranked number three, but a lot more proud to have so many trust ratings from so many PUers. Thanks to all of you.

I also want to share a little personal information. I am a college professor with an MA who works only part time. This gives me a lot of time to join sites and write reviews. I teach at a well known university, so it is hard to say much more about that. I don't really have much of an excuse to write poorly as I do a lot of writing that is work related. That is also why I appreciated the positive criticism of my writing that I got from Badandy. Thanks for pointing out a weakness. By the way, when are you going to break the 100 point mark?

The reviewers I respect the most are Exotics and Gcode. I feel their reviews are simply awe inspiring and wish I could write as well. The two reviewers I find most helpful as their tastes are similar to mine are Drooler and Denner.

My only real criticism of many reviews is that after I read them, I find that I lack a true feel for the experience of being on the site. Many times I feel that the site is not sufficiently described, just criticised. I can read a long detailed review and still not know what the site is really about. They sound as if they were written for an audience that already is familiar with the site. It is better to start at the beginning and expect your reader to know nothing about your topic. Many college students also write this way and this is not exactly ideal.

This has been a fun year thanks to all the positive people on PU.

Thanks to Khan and Rick. Without you guys this site would be unrecognizable. Your hard work has made this a great site for all of us.

Great post! I am surprised you have only been here for a year, considering all of your badges and points, but you earned them.

I definitely agree with the comment about the way reviews are written (including my own), and that you never get a true feel for what a site is really about just from reading its reviews. And yes, Gcode and exoctics4me are great reviewers, as well as Denner and Drooler (who gave me some of my early trust ratings).

I joined about fifteen months ago, after discovering PU through TBP, which was the only place I found that I could actually trust as far as site reviews go. It seemed like all the other sites were cluttered with too many ads, bias, and hot air. When I found PU it was even better, because of the wider range of opinions, plus the great forum, which is where I spend most of my time when I am on PU.

Hope for more great reviews in the future. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hardcore Commie works." - Gen. Jack D. Rippper, Dr. Stranglove

Thanks for the information about your personal life and getting to know you a bit more. It's always great learning some background info on users that I'm starting to know better through more communication. Congrats on the anniversary!

btw, I'm flattered to be mentioned as a great reviewer from a member with so much experience and great reviews/comments himself! Much appreciated. Sexted From My iPad

I am sure he is here, lurking in the shadows, um, I mean pages, of this site (he could be reading this right now), but is probably just too busy to write. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? It is an interesting point that Wittyguy brings up about coed tail. When we get hired we have to sign an agreement that we won't, in spite of the fact that our students are legally adults. Actually, they are rarely all that interesting. They practically never dress well when they come to class and they never heard about makeup. I teach freshman, and unfortunately many bring their high school attitude that they should do the least possible. Attendance is a continuing problem. As a result, most students seem to be not only young, but immature and unappreciative. Unless I had a predatory attitude, I just can't see any reason to actually feel attracted. Porn is fantasy and that works much better for me than the problems of the real women of the age group 18-22. No insult intended to those PUers in that age group as of course what I said cannot possibly be about you. We are all special here. LOL

Congratulation Mbaya on making it through the one year mark. I agree with your criticism of reviews. I think that most if us are guilty of that crime. I know that I sometime want to write more but I just don't have the skill to express it. Long live the Brown Coats.

Thanks Pat. Good writing is not necessarily quantity. Interesting details can be added with very few words. The key to good writing is in the thinking process before you even start to write. Plan ahead and spend a lot of time thinking, then writing becomes much easier. In this case, ask yourself what you would want to know if you were reading the review, but knew nothing about the site. I appreciate the compliment Mbaya. I've found that as I have started blogging more again, on a fairly serious level, my writing has improved or I should say my ability to communicate what I'm trying to say has improved.

Your point ranking is going very similar to how mine did. I think at one time some members thought I was just trying to rack up points, but I kept a steady 6-8 reviews per month and before I knew it, I was up to the top.

It is hard to believe how fast the time has passed on here. Here is to several more years! My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I am glad to help and it is good to see that my criticisms where taken to heart. A year on an online forum is a long time and you have accomplished a lot. There has been a lot of quality originating from your corner of PU.

As for the 100 point mark that has been staring me down for a while now, I am working on that. I have a handful of sites I want to review but I do not know now that I have all their content. Since I am trying to turn my "Quicky Rundown" in to my little trademark if you will I need to be sure I have everything first. This has presented it self as an issue due to my patch of issues with the "highly reliable" SeaGate 1.5 TB drives. I have had two of seven mechanically fail and another lose its format. But, rest assured I am not finished reviewing.....even though you have left me in the dust.

Anyway, enough about me, this is your thread after all. Congrats on the one year mark. Also, perhaps the thanks should go to you. After all we all get to benefit from your work so when it comes down to it we appreciate YOU. To satisfy the greedy side in all of us PU'ers, keep it coming Mbaya! Soon they are going to make you sign an agreement that you will not give students critical remarks on work or tests, as these may be psychologically traumatizing, and hurt the students' drive to study.

I'd assume the agreement was just for conflict of interest reasons; if you are fucking one student (or however many you can fit into your schedule...), and she/they get better grades, well, I could see it causing a problem. Turbo you are on to something here, all kidding aside. We are discouraged from using red pens on student papers and also are given guidelines as to what to write as remarks. Most part timers like me are afraid to be overly critical regarding students work as they may complain and get us fired. That has been known to happen. Where I am now that is unlikely as teachers get support from mangement. In another college I had three students complain I was not being fair and soon after my contract was not renewed. Also being serious, the issue with sex with students is about whether they may be harassed into giving in. Once something happens, a professor is vulnerable if the student says it was not really consensual. In my case I am much older than the students, but what if there was not much age difference? I know of cases where it was definitely a gray area as to whether the affair was ethical. A friend of mine had a female student approach him after the class ended. They were both in their thirties and kept everything hidden. Believe it or not, he could have been fired under the ethics rules. Colleges are terrified of bad publicity and professors are expendable in most colleges.

Man, that sucks! I didn't really think schools would tell teachers how to grade, at least in terms of pen color. Come to think of it, none of my recent professors have used red ink... Personally I don't have a problem with it, since it makes it easy to spot what a teacher wrote, but I am not very politically correct to begin with, nor I am too sensitive (after 3 years in the military, the professors seem like they baby their students).

We do fill out evaluation forms in each class at the end of the semester, which are taken pretty seriously (might affect job security), and offer students a place to make subjective comments. I think few students care about them, but I am sure there are some who use them to vent. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Turbo, the evaluation forms are only the beginning. With the recession colleges everywhere are very concerned as enrollment is way down. Students are generally treated like customers, and customers are always right. Some students are very outspoken and make trouble. When I was a student myself, disagreeing in class with a professor was a risky no no. You may be penalized in your grade at the end of the semester. Now students say and do a lot more than in the past. Check out the website ratemyprofessors.com. The student newspaper at my college had a big front page article about it last semester and many of our students went on line and vented very publicly. That would be ok if the professor in question had a chance to defend themself, but this is not part of the program. Here on PU, if we vent about a site, the webmaster can reply, defend, and even offer a solution to whatever we complain about.

I still feel that starting in the middle is a problem regarding how many reviews are written. It is best to explain as if the reader knows absolutely nothing about the site.

PARDON THE CAPS. THEY ARE EASIER FOR ME TO READ AND EDIT.

THE BEST GUIDE TO WRITING AN EXCELLENT REVIEW IS THE THREAD:
https://www.pornusers.com/forum/forum_th...ead.html?threadid=57

VERY FEW REVIEWS FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES OF TOADSITH'S CHEAT SHEET.
WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME, EFFORT, OR TALENT TO WRITE THE EXCELLENT REVIEWS HE WROTE.

HOWEVER, IT HELPS TO READ THAT THREAD, TO GET AN IDEA OF THE CRITERIA THAT AN EXCELLENT REVIEW INCLUDES.

EXCEPT THAT QUITE OFTEN, WE WRITE REVIEWS THAT TRY TO GIVE THE FLAVOR OF A SITE.

TOO MANY FACTS, TOO MANY STATISTICS, WHILE IMPORTANT TO SOME PEOPLE, CAN MAKE FOR A BORING REVIEW. INFORMATIVE, MAYBE, BUT BORING.

EXCEPT TOADSITH'S REVIEWS WERE NOT BORING: THEY WERE A MODEL OF CLARITY, WHILE STILL BEING INFORMATIVE.

BUT IF I HAD TO JUDGE OR COMPARE MY REVIEWS TO TOADSITH'S, I WOULD NEVER SUBMIT A SINGLE REVIEW.

SHEN IS ANOTHER GUY WHO HAS ONLY WRITTEN TWO REVIEWS.
BOTH REVIEWS WERE AMAZING.
I FOOLISHLY GAVE HIM A POSITIVE TRUST RATING.
WHEN I SHOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM A TRIPLE NON-TRUST RATING, BECAUSE HIS REVIEWS WERE OBVIOUSLY WRITTEN WITH THE HELP OF BRAINIAC, THE DEADLIEST ARCH-ENEMY OF POOR PU REVIEWERS EVERYWHERE.

Funny!

I was thinking about my recent review of CumPerfection. If I had not did mentioned it was a bj site, no one could ever have figured that out from the site name. If you take the tour you see it is a bj site. Without a mention in the review, you don't know and probably can't figure out if the site is for you or not. Do you spend time checking it out? Probably not as you can find dozens or hundreds of sites that may be worth a look.

I spent this morning looking for a site to join and read a whole lot of reviews. Often, I did not get information that I was looking for. Of course there are many ways to write excellent reviews and we all have our own style. Edited on Feb 21, 2019, 10:01am
