Windows 7

W7 was released Thursday---so far I like it.

Has anyone else upgraded?

And most importantly, how will it effect porn browsing?

I thought about it but I am extremely uninformed about the new OS. Is it considerably different, as in an extreme difference like XP and Vista are? Off the top of your head, what are the best upgrades you have noticed so far? Sexted From My iPad

Im scared! With as many headaches as the last Windows installment gave me I hate to think of what they could have screwed up in this one!

Actually I have heard good things about 7. Hopefully Vista was their kick in the ass they needed to get moving in the right direction. I'm still using Windows XP. I've heard that Windows 7 is supposed to be a big improvement over Vista, but the standard wisdom says that when a new operating system comes along, it's always better to wait and let others go first. Windows XP is good enough for me, until I have to buy a new computer, and there's no big rush on that.

Although I've heard some good things about 7, there's another conventional wisdom that says that Microsoft is quick to put out operating systems well before they're tested properly. There's almost got to be the usual driver and compatibility issues like there's been in every transition from o/s to o/s. And I definitely don't trust Microsoft to make things like alternative browsers easy to deal with. Despite the early positive reports, I'm skeptical of their next "latest and greatest".

I'm upset because my next build is going to push me into XP. I can't find a motherboard with my requirements that comes with Windows 2000 drivers. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I finally went reluctantly to Win XP last year after using 98 2nd Ed. all those years. Could kick my ass for waiting so long. Will wait for verdict on W7.

I do not have any glaring problems with Vista, well at least non that I have not taken many hours already to fix. But, there is still many things I do not like, particularly the "are you sure you wanna run that program you clicked on? You know, the program you run every single day and I feel I still need to ask you every single day" prompt I get way too often. I know it is for security that many people cried for, but I still believe the people who thought of that little prompt that has no learning ability to seriously consider standing in a 5 gallon bucket of wet concrete, wait a few hours for it to set, then hop off a local bridge. Many people seem to hate vista, and on some news article I read the other day they referred to it as a flop or something. I never had any problems with vista. I will wait until next year to get windows 7 or whenever I get a new desktop, whichever comes first.

Since you can't upgrade from XP to 7, I will wait til I buy a new pc which will take a few years.

I'm surprised you made it past MS-DOS. Lol. Win XP is and was a great improvement.

But I still like to use the DOS window for a few things it does well (or that I, with limited PC knowledge, can get it to do).

I was forced to buy a new PC recently - and I was dreading the Vista experience. Vista isn't bad in any way except for the fact that some games that I have are basically retired since they aren't compatible with Vista - I know there are work-arounds, but I'm a lazy fuck.

Anyway, I bought a Dell with a free Windows 7 upgrade. I should be receiving my upgrade disk fairly soon, so I guess I'll be experiencing that soon.

Another main concern is will W7 allow hot-swapping? I had a lot of trouble with Vista. I got one computer to let me hot-swap, but my newest one still will not let me do it even though all the hardware is capable of it. Just curious, badandy, but what's "hot_swapping?"

I am getting a free upgrade to Windows 7 as well and am looking forward to it. I don't expect it to interfere with my porn browsing, why should it?

Actually, W7 has been out since January for anyone who wanted to test it and report back to MS, and I guess many did.

W7 is very helpful as far as compatibility issues are concerned. All you have to do is right click any app and there is a feature to troubleshoot. For me, it's a big improvement over Vista. I've only had 1 compatibility issue. Vista was a nightmare. Edited on Oct 27, 2009, 11:35am

Badandy, you can turn that off!

Anyaway, W7 has made that less intrusive.

I'm curious - was it was software or hardware? And, if it won't compromise your privacy or national security or anything, could you elaborate on what the issue is? Like, if it's a USB powered sex toy, I don't wanna know. Also, am I correct in assuming that the troubleshooter in W7 is better than the so-called troubleshooter in previous Windoze versions? You know - the one that always left you at "consult the manufacturer"?

Unfortunately, I have to get serious about putting a new PC together and I'm thinking I might have to take a big leap from W2K to W7. I never did like XP and Vista was never an option to me. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view) it is not a sex or porn term...at least not that I know of!

I am sure badandy has a much better definition of this then me, and you are asking him after all, but it is basically when you can connect components without having to shut down your computer. It's software RB, to be more specific Window Washer, which I have been using for years to clean out cache and so forth. Writing them did no good, they just recently upgraded to Vista!

The troubleshooter is good. It allows for making adjustments to the selected software that may (or may not) make it compatible.

So, uh, Windows 7 - less than 2 hours to do the whole download/upload/update thing and the results on my computer are fairly breathtaking - pics - Oooooooohhhhhhh, vids - OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - the visuals are fucking stunning - it's like if you had an accident and had to have your eyes bandaged for 2 weeks and then got to open them - the sensory rush is intense.

I like!

That does suck - That was the first app I added to my first PC and, like you, have been using it for years. I just recently found something called Glary Utilities and it is W7 compatible. It's not as one-click friendly as Window Washer but it might make a good replacement until Webroot gets up to speed. http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html

That, on the other hand, sounds like a good thing for a change, coming from MicroShaft.

I have had it for a few weeks now (shhhhh! Don't tell anyone I had it before most). Yes, it's a legal copy. I got it through an MSDN partnership a couple weeks before it was released.

I can't complain. I had Vista before and the major difference I notice is that drivers that did not work well in Vista work great in 7. If I would have to guess it has more to do with companies not willing to put out good drivers for Vista since it did not have good uptake. As far as performance there is not any noticeable difference to Vista. Mostly I am upgrading the rest of my family's PCs since they were all still running XP. There is a small but perceivable performance boost from XP to 7.

Its been getting good reviews.

I'll wait a year though to give them a chance to iron out any problems.

Well, here comes the first problem (bug).

The damn thing won't update anymore. No, I don't have a virus.

MS support isn't of much help. A little research shows this is becoming a real problem.
