Where Do Old Porn Users Go To Die (Or, Where Are You Now Cybertoad?)

I was just wondering why people leave this forum. I am someone who is a member of a few forums, as many of you are. The only reasons I have had for leaving a forum were because, either there was censorship that I did not like, or because I did not like the owners or moderators.

I am still wondering why Cybertoad left without a word of farewell. I sort of feel guilty because I called him a lawyer, and disagreed with him over the blacklist of rogue sites. But even then I could see his point. I hope that wasn't part of what made him leave, he was one of my favourites.

Looking down the list I can see a number of people who used to contribute but no longer do. There will be periods when I will not be visiting this site, or I may leave because of a disagreement over censorship, or whatever, but I find it strange that people sort of disappear without a word of goodbye, especially when the forum seems to consist of people who can argue without getting really angry or silly. There seems to be a genuine feeling of bonhomie amongst most members.

I wonder what makes them leave and why. If any of you leave, will you say goodbye, or just leave? What would make you leave this site? Edited on Mar 17, 2009, 04:05pm

I really can not tell you, I have been pretty active here since I started posting a year ago. In the event that I intend on leaving I would imagine I would at least let people know why.

Calling someone a lawyer is a pretty bad thing though. :)

The only thing I can think of is someone's significant other is against them conversing with other porn enthusiasts. Or possibly they have a period where work is much more over bearing. That is the only real reason.

Obviously some people just can not stand having people question them or being wrong and will leave, but those types do not last long. I would not say that CyberToad was one of them. Taking a wild guess, based on nothing more than a gut feeling, I would say that Cybertoad and WeeWillyWinky disabled their accounts to take a break from porn. They probably figured they were in danger of overdosing.

Yes, it would have been nice if they had said good-bye before leaving. But this is the Internet, where connections are easily broken.

Hoping they will return some time in the future. They were both strong contributors to this site.

I always wondered where Snowdude went. One thing also to remember is the last few months has been very hard on the economy, and I think some members probably were using their porn money for food, gas, etc...

I do think feelings get hurt at times and those members either leave or take a break, get their heads and thoughts together.

I was running the risk of burn out last year and took a few months off, though I still would come by and check for any replies. As a psychologist and motivational speaker, one of my most requested lectures is about how we don't realize that each of us has our boundaries. What might make one person mad, might make another person laugh. What seems like an issue to one person, might not receive a second thought from another.

The other thing and I think this could be part of the explanation of leaving members from any forum or website, not just this one. The overall mood of the members on here has become much more negative, and some people, say a recovering alcoholic, would remove themselves from that negative situation. There seems to be an almost overwhelming pride in giving sites a low score these days. I've always wondered if the people who generally score sites in the 70s realize they are admitting that they chuck hundreds of dollars out each month to something they say wasn't very good. Just my opinion there, as negativity always hurts group settings. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I'd say that animosity was on the up especially during the always stressful holiday season, but that seems to have abated.

It's hard to know why Cybertoad, SnowDude and WeeWillyWinky have been absent. Reasons suggested so far are all possible (the economy, negativity, porn fatigue).

I've noticed a slip in overall participation at times, compared to the pre-established norm. But these things I think generally occur as do the tides, with lulls. It's a bit workish trying to keep up with the interesting threads and contribute interesting bits. Here at PU, it's a form of writing for an audience, not just shouting from one's own smut-laden disk array.

Maybe none of the absent -- and very much missed -- members of our little club wanted to give a farewell because they might return someday. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I'm not nearly as emotionally-connected to other participants of this forum as some of you are, I guess. I'm here while I'm here and I enjoy the back-and-forth. It's as good an environment as I've seen for the exchange of information & opinions on this subject, since I don't see any flaming - something that some internet forums are just addicted to, which make for a noxious environment.

But I don't promise to let you all know when I'm going on vacations and I doubt that I'll be doing any house-to-house visits when I post my last at this forum. I suspect that I won't know that it will be my last post. I'll just become otherwise occupied. Which is, I suspect what happened to the departed ones already mentioned - they just plain became otherwise occupied.

Yes, it could be as simple as that. The thing that makes us wonder is why they go through the act of disabling their own accounts. It's kind of ... dramatic seeing a PornUser do that. But do I try to get over it. There are, after all, enough perverts around to make up for any losses. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I do find this funny. The first forum thread posted is for people leaving the site. And sure enough someone leaves without saying bye. It seems that LostFaith has lost his way(or perhaps found it). Just though I would mention this since there is a tad of irony. Not all perverts are created equal. In the eyes of God (and the Republican neo-conservative Christian Moral Majority), we might be equal. But on the PU site, some have a greater presence (and a higher Points Rank) than others. So when a member like Cybertoad or WeeWillyWinky goes missing, I think at least some of us feel the loss.

When a valuable membership becomes disabled, the least we should do is to raise a glass of beer or more potent brew in his honor.

I would include Drooler in that category of value-added PU perverts, along with many other worthwhile members.

An excellent suggestion. I raise my glass to all of those fallen comrades that have made PU what is is. May they be happy wherever they are. Long live the Brown Coats.

BROTHERS-IN-ARMS! - or whatever crazy slogan I can come up with in my limited english vocabulary.
What a lot of fine, funny, entertaning inputs here at this particular thread created by The Squirrel.
PP, I would not call my involvement at PU for emotional, still it's the only forum or blog or whatever I'm active in (no facebook either) - and it's damn fine to do some ping-pong with other descent, honest and generally friendly porn-fans who has the same interest in sharing and getting god hints and warnings.
And why not the friendly way - we've got enough shit in this world otherwise...

And again, Ze Droolah got a fine line:
"Here at PU, it's a form of writing for an audience, not just shouting from one's own smut-laden disk array."

And in a way like exotics4me states: There could be a lot of reasons to leave or take a break from this place.

We all have different levels of activities here - probably and mostly because or other activities, but bottomline if you've have had a fine experience for a longer time here in the never ending search for good porn: my guess is you'll be back - because there's nothing like this PU elsewhere (I have not found it yet, anyway).

And Squirrel: If we take all those great lawyer-jokes serious - everybody could feel offended - DO NOT feel guilty - I'm pretty sure that's NOT the reason Cybertoad left or maybe just have taken a break.
We can all get "pissed" with some reply we feel is not right/fair - but that would never be the reason for this user to leave.
Had my run-ins before, but I stayed - mainly because this also has a user value to me in the porn-search.
- And, ok PP - this you could consider emotional: Had some friends here who backed me up... (thanks, Drooler - and others)

You know, I've gotten to thinking: Porn serves as a pretty good platform for the male bonding experience. Now, wait a minute! Don't take it the wrong way, now. You won't find me wearing a toga banging drums in a cave with a bunch of other guys who know the secret passwords and hand signals. And you certainly won't find me amongst those "manly men," if you just happen to remember that SNL skit with John Belushi.

Anyway, the male bonding happens because of a shared interest: Hot women. And we're not competing for them because actually we're interested in viewing material in which other males have already beaten us to them, on one score at least. And I guess that's what makes us the pervs that we are, huh?

Now, I know I'm not being very politically correct. No offense to the female PU'ers or the gay folk. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Aye, I've been a bit absent as of late, but I assure you I do check in at least every few days or so. One never knows when the opportunity for an e-novel will present itself, lol "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"
